Maxis is dead.

In fact Maxis was dissolved after The Sims 2, that is why after a few expansions the Maxis logo was removed.

Spore was created by a newly established Studio they named Maxis, also it was hit by massive lay-off at the same time as Pandemic.

EA now does not "close" studios, just fires most of the workforce, re-assign the rest and keeps using the studio name.
