I enjoyed Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, not fantastic games but both kept my attention all the way through.

I haven't played it much, but it was mostly mindless grinding. Which wouldn't be so bad if the combat was a little less boring, it's mostly just you trying to let your characters cross paths so you can do that unison attack thingy. You know 3 Coin Hockey? That's the game's combat in a nutshell.
The nice thing about the game was that it didn't take itself too seriously. This for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVibNKrp8sQ

Oh, you can play dress-up with your characters.

Yeah, basically it is endless grinding. The combat is somewhat neat for about 10 minutes, then it just becomes fucking tedious. I probably would be able to justify it for like 10 dollars out of the bargain bin, but I am bitter because I paid 60 for it when it came out.

I like the idea of weapon customization, but this is typically japanese: they overdo an otherwise nice gameplay mechanic to the point that it's horribly broken and has no connection to reality anymore.
