I'm sure it's having an effect. Namely you can only connect to others via a server.

Download for Alpha Centauri - Alien Crossfire Expansion

You can download the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - Alien Crossfire Expansion from the following Web Site:

There are several websites with the same links as shown above

If you read this post and are old enough to have played either The Horde (featuring Chauncey, created by Toys for Bob and released by Crystal Dynamics) or Centurion: Defender of Rome, please read on.

The Horde featured both scaled-down city management and real-time strategy sword-swinging. No mean feat considering it was released in 1993.

Centurion featured strategy on a number of layers. The fighting was somewhat similar to Master of Magic and Age of Wonders, but the units keep moving.

Would anyone know of modern day equivalents two The Horde or Centurion?

Why no Centurion?

It's rather strange that there is very little in the way of modern Centurion.

In a way, the games promise of Empire Management, Real-Time warfare, Diplomacy, Ship Battles, and even Chariot Races, was probably a bit too much to deliver on, especially on a Floppy Disk. No doubt if someone who has only played modern games, with modern graphics would not find the graphics of a 1991 Centurion very enticing.

But the magic of Centurion was it was able to accomplish so much and was unique in many ways. In a way, Rome: Total War features similar action, but with a far more advanced game engine, 3D graphics and a much larger battlefield.

It would still be nice to play a Modern day Centurion.
