Wait!. I am all confuse. :retarded:

So Gabriel's uncle tore the heart from his own chest? That's a little bit contrived, don't you think? o_O

Well you could say the amulet gave him power to do it.

He really put his heart into it. :M

There was that story about that negro stoned on PCP that cut his belly open and threw his intestines on the cops before being put down.

I guess an extreme witch-hunter such as old Wolfgang could find it in himself to do similar.

Wolfgang set us a heartening example of what you can do when you really want to.

What a heartless bunch you are, making fun of his suffering like that.

The Ritter family talisman is finally ours !

457140-gabriel_knight___talisman_large.jpg

But uncle Wolfgang died for it :rpgcodex:

Tetelo is to blame for all this :x

Revenge solves everything ! :fight:

sierra_11585.png

Gabriel has not heard from Grace for over twenty-four hours, and he could not reach Malia by phone. And, although he has some idea of what he is coming home to attempt, he still has no clue where to attempt it.

sierra_11597.png

Hmmm...

sierra_11559.png

Day 10 : A fight I could never win.

Chapter 14 Soundtrack :

It feels good to be home, although...

sierra_11622.png

Where is Grace ?

Gabe-sm.png
Grace ?

sierra_11632.png

Gabe-sm.png
Oh, no ! Grace !

This doesn't look good. A note is on the desk :

sierra_11641.png

Gabriel--I hope you survive long enough to get this.

Tetelo knows you have the talisman. Your life is worth nothing, my love.
I fight to save you, but she controls things far more than I!
She has taken Grace. Return the talisman and leave New Orleans forever.
If you don't, I can't help you. PLEASE. I can't bear to see you die.

Please believe me--I love you. Malia

Goddammit ! They've dragged Grace into this ! Or maybe *we've* dragged Grace into this... And is Malia sincere about her feelings for Gabriel ? As we ponder these questions a sound is heard from inside the studio :

sierra_11657.png

Gabe-sm.png
I have the talisman !

sierra_11662.png

W-Who ??

sierra_11670.png

Mosely !! Have they turned him into an undead zombie-abomination sent to kill us ?!

sierra_11676.png

Gabe-sm.png
You mean you weren't dead, you son-of-a-bitch?

mosley.png
Do I LOOK dead? No--don't answer that.

:yeah: Mosely is alive !

mosley.png
I was searching the tomb. When I heard someone coming, I broke the light and got in the drawer. Sorry I brained you, but I thought you were one of them.

Gabe-sm.png
Christ! You about killed me!

mosley.png
I said I was sorry. Besides, I owed you one for stealing my badge. If it makes you feel any better I lost my wallet that day.

Gabe-sm.png
Your wallet. Ohhhh. I guess you're right. We are even.

Heheh, gone is the guilt of using his credit card...

mosley.png
Like I said. Anyway, we shouldn't stand out here and gab; someone on the street might see us. Let's go in back and talk.

That we do. Let's give him back the wallet :

sierra_11718.png

mosley.png
Really? Great! What a pal!

Gabe-sm.png
I also found your credit card.

mosley.png
Thanks! Uh...you didn't put anything on this, didya?

Gabe-sm.png
Who, me?

mosley.png
Yeah. Sorry.

 Let's get on to business:

sierra_11736.png

Gabe-sm.png
What should we do about Grace?

mosley.png
Them Voodoo people have taken her, the goddamn bastards! We have to find her and save her, and we can't count on the police department for any help.

Gabe-sm.png
Yeah, everything is up to us. So, fill me in on what you've been doing for the past five days.

mosley.png
I've been gettin' smart, that's what. They've got me runnin', I'll admit, but the day a bunch of drum-banging, mumbo-jumbo chanting magicians can catch ole 'light foot' Mosely is the day I die!

Gabe-sm.png
Can't argue with that logic.

sierra_11782.png

mosley.png
But once I really started diggin', it was like I could see clearly. These guys are into EVERYTHING that happens in this city. And most people are scared shitless of 'em--or they don't know about 'em at all.

Gabe-sm.png
Let me fill you in on what I've learned in the past five days.

mosley.png
Okay. Have at it.

Gabe-sm.png
Well, Malia Gedde is the head of the cartel. Dr. John is her right hand man.

mosley.png
I learned that much. You sure know how to pick 'em, Knight.

sierra_11793.png

mosley.png
You don't say.

Gabe-sm.png
It's true. Anyway, I have something--a talisman--that I can use against them. It will help, but they probably still have a power source somewhere in their hounfour.

mosley.png
A talisman ?

Gabe-sm.png
Also, this whole thing kind of ties in with my nightmares, see, and my family history. My family does this shadow hunting thing, and about three hundred years ago...

mosley.png
Look, don't confuse me, okay? You worry about all that metaphysical stuff, and I'll just try to catch the bad guys.

Gabe-sm.png
Yeah, you'd never believe me anyway. Let's make a plan. What do you think we should do?

sierra_11811.png

Gabe-sm.png
Sounds easy.

mosley.png
Uh-huh. Do you have any idea where their headquarters might be?

Gabe-sm.png
Perhaps.

mosley.png
Well, you do seem to have a knack for sniffin' out this Voodoo stuff. Why don't you see if you can locate it for sure. Meanwhile, I've got some things I've got to do. I'll meet you there later.

Gabe-sm.png
How will you find it?

mosley.png
Damn! That's right! If only I had the tracker from my office!

Gabe-sm.png
I have it.

mosley.png
Really? Good goin'! You give it to me and leave a signal device at the entrance to the headquarters.

Gabe-sm.png
All right.

sierra_11842.png

Gabe-sm.png
You too, buddy.

Mosely leaves and we have another look around the store. There's a newspaper on the desk :

sierra_11855.png

We give it a quick scan.

sierra_11859.png

Twenty died and close to a hundred were injured.
The storms only accentuate the bad luck that seems to have gripped the South.
The crime rate for the past three days has peaked to unprecedented levels,
and there have been fifty reports of food poisoning in New Orleans alone.

In other words, keep your heads down, folks, and pray that August will return us to sanity.

Warily, Gabriel reads his horoscope for the day....

sierra_11869.png

Gabe-sm.png
There's a schoolteacher somewhere who's damned confused.

It time we went out. It seems people have smelled the danger in the air and have barred themselves home. Stores are closed and all voodoo-related individuals are nowhere to be found.

sierra_11882.png

We go by the cemetery to check if there's a new message.

sierra_11889.png

Nothing's changed. It's time we tried to locate the hounfour.

sierra_11946.png

Something clicked in Gabriel's brain when he saw Jackson square from up in the sky...

st-louis-cathedral-_793590c.jpg

st-louis-cathedral-jackson-square-new-orleans-louisiana_1152x864_74065.jpg

Wheel-within-a-wheel ! Jackson square might have something to do with the voodoo headquarters ! Let's investigate :

square.jpg

Damn. Even with four Gabriels, we can't find shit. Let's see if we can catch anything from the rada drummer :

sierra_11965.png

sierra_11971.png

Well, well. There's a conclave tonight. But we've yet to find the Hounfour...
Wait a minute, we've forgotten about the cathedral, it's right in front of the square after all :

sierra_11976.png

Gabriel searches around, but finds nothing. He feels dismayed. Maybe a blessing from the priest would ease his mind :

sierra_12008.png

Damn. the priest is away. What should we do ?

This can be one of the hardest parts of the game. You can easily get stuck here, because in order to proceed you need luck and some good old-fashioned pixel-hunting.

Remember that nook we spotted on the confessional wall many updates earlier ? Let's have another look :

sierra_12010.png

You can easily miss it and even miss the whole confessional, since there's an identical confessional on the opposite side, that doesn't have a nook. Oh well, now that we've found a hole, Gabriel knows what to do. He grabs his rod and...

sierra_12020.png

...shoves it in.

sierra_12024.png

Huh ?

sierra_12027.png

sierra_12029.png

sierra_12035.png

sierra_12038.png

A secret rod-powered elevator inside St. Luis Cathedral confessional. You've got to hand it to the cartel, they have some ambitious ideas. Now, let's leave the signal device here for Mosely :

sierra_12046.png

But how is he going to operate the lift ? We should leave the rod too :

sierra_12055.png

That was a crucial part. You can easily forget about the rod and get stuck. Let's see what awaits us beyond the confessional doors...

sierra_12068.png

Whoa ! These guys are very organized ! Suddenly, we hear the lift getting into motion again :

sierra_12072.png

Let's move on. We cautiously open the door ahead and...

sierra_12098.png

Welcome to the luxurious and high-tech New Orleans snake mound, folks !
Feeling slightly overwhelmed, Gabriel starts exploring the place.

sierra_12107.png

sierra_12110.png

Man, these guys are more like a corporation than a voodoo cult. What have we gotten ourselves into ?

sierra_12113.png

Gabe-coat-sm.png
A painting of a shadowy figure is on the wall. One of the Loa, maybe.

There doesn't seem to be anything of interest here, let's move on.

sierra_12133.png

The corridors and rooms are empty. The cartel people must be preoccupied elsewhere. We search the next room :

sierra_12140.png

Gabe-coat-sm.png
Who knows WHAT these guys are into!

sierra_12142.png

Gabe-coat-sm.png
She reminds me of Malia--her mother, perhaps?

Unimportant. What's important is that little black book on the desk :

sierra_12151.png

The book looks like an accountant's record book. The cover is printed with the words "Gedde Tribe".

sierra_12160.png

That was a great find. We move on down the corridor...

sierra_12168.png

...and enter the next chamber :

sierra_12176.png

Someone's coming !

sierra_12185.png

It's Malia ! She lights the candles on some kind of shrine and steps behind the screen.

sierra_12200.png

A strange, shadowy figure appears !

sierra_12206.png

sierra_12210.png

malia.png
Tetelo, I beg you again--for my sake--spare Gabriel's life!

tetelo.png
Do not protect or mourn that one. He will only betray you!

malia.png
Gabriel would never betray me!

tetelo.png
He will! As Gunter betrayed me. Blinded by the light, he will despise your darkness!

sierra_12225.png

tetelo.png
Hah! So you say, because you are drawn to the light. What you do not know is that the light will never have you--you only corrupt it when you draw near!

malia.png
I don't believe you. This way...this life is too painful. I MUST be free of it!

tetelo.png
You can never be free! You will see, my daughter. What I have told you is true. You will see!

malia.png
Wait! I won't go through with it! I won't!

sierra_12243.png

sierra_12244.png

sierra_12246.png

Malia runs into the bathroom...

sierra_12260.png

Gabe-coat-sm.png
Malia ?

We get no answer. We can't reach her this way, so we have a look around :

sierra_12265.png

A hand painted screen separates a small shrine from the rest of the room.

sierra_12263.png

There's nothing else we can do here. Reluctantly we move on.

sierra_12280.png

On top of each door there are snake numbers, exactly like the Benin mound. We enter door number 2 and...

sierra_12287.png

Dr. John ?! Is he talking to Gabriel ?

sierra_12290.png

No... He's mumbling to himself.

DrJohn.png
This land is already in our hands!

Dr. John is a sick man. An altar dominates his room, and skin and blood are the prominent decorating motif.

sierra_12300.png

Across the room we notice something hanging on the wall :

sierra_12347.png

It looks like a key-card, it must be important ! Let's grab it.

sierra_12354.png

Dr. John seems oblivious. But as we're about to leave...

sierra_12362.png

FUCK !

Gabe-coat-sm.png
Is this your room? I'm so sorry.

Our brilliant response doesn't phase him...

sierra_12367.png

sierra_12370.png

sierra_12373.png

sierra_12375.png

sierra_12378.png

Yes, we are...

sierra_12385.png

Will we manage to avoid Dr. John's death grip, save Grace, snatch Malia from Tetelo's hands and destroy the Voodoo cult ? We can only learn the answer in the next update.

Should've borrowed a gun from Mosely. I'm still creeped out by this segment when I played it. Too much risks.

I like the fact that GK almost never uses a gun in any of the games. In fact I can only remember him using a gun in GK2 and he had one because he had gone hunting in the woods. Dangerous situations are usually resolved with more subtle means.

Obvious Mcgyver influence?

There is the epic knife fight with the demon vampire in GK3 though.

EDIT: Also,

He will! As Gunter betrayed me. Blinded by the light, he will despise your darkness!

tis is racism

I actually felt inspired by this LP and translated a Voodooish short-story, but it bogged down at the point of Editor review. Maybe he got too depresed. :)
