An urban zombie survival game. Easy to get into, dynamic world, you earn skills by surviving till the next sunrise, not vapour ware. Reminds me of The Unreal World. High quality.

Last time I played (3.1?) game was decent for the first week. Then they send in the Marines and it becomes laughably easy == shit.

My understanding was that at some stage the gov't troops tactics change from 'marines come to help out' to 'black ops clear the area - kill every motherfucker that moves', at which point the game becomes very hard.

I dont remember the marines being friendly. And the blackop guys, well, you cant take 3 of them at a time but you can always run and the interesting part at the beginning was surviving the night. When the marines start to appear, they basically provide long lasting food and ammo and guns. Black ops were not a problem when I played. How indeed, if you outgun, outrun and outsmart them.

This all could of course could have been changed.

Gotta hand the man one thing though, he runs a full simulation of all the agents on the map. At least he used to. You can opt out of it too. With simulation on, map changing was slow as fuck. C# doesnt help...

edit

Did a Search and yeah, I played 3.21? when it was on the Codex news.

Hey, I love the sound of this game, but one of the most important things for me will be finding other survivors, working together and making friends, this leads me to have a few questions though...

1. Relationships...how will they be managed? Will we be able to have opponents, like a gang of survivors we hate and want to kill? Or even on a more petty level, just somebody in our group who we are always arguing with/dont see eye to eye with? Will there be romance/sexual relationships in a Bioware style? How will you handle this tastefully?

2. Personalities...how deep will these be? Will their be a wide variety? My big fear with npcs is they might come across cookie-cutter and when they die we might not care a huge amount. How do you plan on making us feel for the npcs, making us risk our necks for them? It might be to easy to be callous otherwise. Can you give us any ideas of certain personalities we might see? Naive/Brash/Cunning/Sarcastic/Compassionate etc etc?

3. Opinions...will npcs act to you according to what you've done? I.e, if you run about shooting people will npcs be wary of you?

Another game is Survival Crisis Z. For some reason, the dev's website is a music blog so I'll link to a Minecraft forums thread.

SCZ is awesome. It even has disguising, torture and sandboxy faction dynamics. It's just too bad the entire game is a grand grind experience. I'd easily play full retail price for such a game if it had a real story, characters, writing and quests. And more gameplay mechanics than minor gunporn.

Hmm, this game is pretty fun (haven't played in several months). At some point the marines drop lots of supplies around, and you can stock up on food and meds easily. At first these marines are non-hostile to the PC. I don't think I survived much longer than this point, I think the spec-ops dorkwads killed me every time.

Not even remotely. It even has a handholdy tutorial mode with helpful popups if you want. Granted it's more complicated than the famed 'button of awesome' but nothing anyone with a piece of brain will fail to handle.

No, but the interface is just as shitty. Totally unhelpful and not intuitive in the least. I take it, it will take as much time for this guy to redo the interface as it is taking Toady.

It's not that bad. It's no worse than any other rogulike, and much better than most. Just learn maybe a dozen or so key commands and you're set. Srsly, nothing to complain about here.

Dwarf fortress with it's arcane labyrinth of menus, UI and key shortcuts is a million times crazier than this.
