World of Risen discussion thread

This might warrant another playthrough of Risen to get in the mood for the sequel - which has nice Monkey Island vibe to it :salute:

Not that there's crap all else out - I find myself emulating turn-based DS games with DeSmuME :?

Annoyingly I can't hotlink the patch or readme. The links are on the first post of that thread.

This small fix is particularly welcome.

Experience is no longer cut when player receives more experience than needed to reach next level.

Some of the bugs fixed by this patch would take mere minutes for the developers to fix and were reported to developers much earlier than official patch 1.10 was released. So PB and DS if you don't care about supporting your product at least release a modkit for the game so your customers can fix the bugs themselves.

Hate the fuckers who still suck the developer's cock in matters like this even when support is shit.

Fixed infinite experience and gold exploit with Rhobart.

Damnit. I liked this "exploit", it was funny.

For those not in the know - find every piece of weed in the game, and sell them all to Rhobar. IIRC it's a fixed number. Then, using Pickpocket (2, IIRC) steal back the pile of weed he has in his inventory, and sell the pile to him again.

But... AFAIK this can only be done once. So how does the "infinite" part play into this?

Since there is no change-log posted in OP, I am going to assume it's another pointless fan patch to "fix and improve the game since developers don't know anything lololol".

4. Change log.

NOTE: Contains a lot of spoilers. Quest, NPC names and some game terms correspond to the English localization of the game.

4.1. General changes.
---------------------

- "Fight against Aric" quest is no longer cancelled instead of a "Tick Aric" quest upon successful completion of "Fight against Aric" quest.
- Experience is no longer cut when player receives more experience than needed to reach next level.
- Received experience is no longer lost while player is transformed into another creature (such as Nautilus or Ashbeast).
- Kalib no longer dies during lizardmen attack on the Monastery allowing the player to start and complete "Secure the gate!" quest.
- Kalib now successfully finds his way to his guard post outside the Monastery gates upon completion of "Secure the gate!" quest.
- Player will be able to get winning money from Craig after defeating him in the arena even if player has already bought fragment of a sword from Craig beforehand.
- It is no longer possible to start "Romanov's seaman's chest" quest after "Sergio wants Romanov's gold" quest has already been completed.
- It is no longer possible to start "Find Garth!" quest (making it impossible to finish) by speaking with Weasel if player has already talked with Garth at the meeting point with Cutter beforehand. "Find Garth!" quest now automatically succeeds even if player finds Garth before starting this quest with Weasel.
- Player can now get permission from Carasco to question Olf and be allowed into Don's house by Hernandez.
- Player can now learn prospecting from Enriko upon completing "Protection against the ghosts of the ancestors" quest (as long as player does not join the Monastery).
- During "Follow Taylor!" (and "Follow Kalib!") quest Taylor (and Kalib) address player automatically when reaching training area and player chambers.
- Restored some lost lines in a dialog with William and Tucker (asking them to train during "Sweep out the chambers" quest).
- Restored some lost lines in a dialog with Erikson and Patty (asking Erikson about Patty's father and reporting to Patty that Erikson was nervous).
- "The path to truth" quest no longer becomes impossible to complete after losing a duel with Ash twice.
- "Talk to master Illumar" quest is now cancelled and no longer remains incomplete in the quest log if player joins the Monastery.
- If Oscar already agreed to teach player before player joined the Monastery, a dialog option to pay 100 gold for teaching is no longer shown after player joins the Monastery.
- Telling Ignatius that Pallas has no task for you before asking Pallas about his task no longer prevents completion of "The tests of the Masters" quest.
- It is no longer possible to give Druid Eldric his staff if player does not have it in his inventory.
- "A package for the Don" quest is now closed upon joining the Monastery. Consequently, it is no longer possible to simultaneously become a member of two opposite factions.
- It is no longer possible to speak with Erikson about a search for Steelbeard's clues after player have found a clue hidden on the small island south of the main island.
- Fixed infinite experience and gold exploit with Rhobart.
- Edgar no longer offers to increase player's strength by 5 points if player already have more than 95 but less than 100 points of strength.
- Kayleigh no longer confronts player about her husband Cid leaving the town before Cid have actually done so.
- Amulet of the Holy flame is no longer available on sale (previously was sold by Cyrus in Chapter 4) becoming mages exclusive item.
- Mages no longer gather in the Hall of the Holy Flame for the initiation of player into a Master Mage before player tells Ignatius that he is ready.
- It is no longer possible to complete "Steelbeard's nautical map" and "A piece of the Titan Armour" quests in a way that allows Patty to remain a party member.
- It is no longer possible to complete "The search for the map" quest in a way that allows Drok to remain a party member.
- The following quest items are removed from game world when they become useless for the player: Dorgan's list, Romanov's casket.
- Recovered lost dialog line in Ursegor's dialog.
- Sergio no longer has quest item (Gold plate) he is not supposed to have.
- Changed the category of the following quests from "World" to "Volcano keep": "The initiation", "Assisting the mages", "Sirius has problems with Abrax".

4.2. English localization changes.
----------------------------------

- Restored audible commentary of player character when using empty ore deposits.
- Replaced incorrectly translated (from German) quest name "Assisting the mages" with "Support of the mages".
- Dorgan's list now mentions Branon (correct English localization NPC name) instead of Danny (German localization name).
- A few other cosmetic changes in English text strings.

Wow, didn't notice anything that patch fixes in my 3 playthroughs. Modders live in another world, tis true. Also, horray for pointless dialogue restorations. Obviously the thing that we all missed in Risen. :roll:

The only fix that would make me replay is the archery reload speed bug where levels 2-9 in archery make no difference and level 10 adds the cumulative increases all at once.

I never noticed any of these... I used to get stuttering after playing for awhile, but I seem to recall that it was fixed.

The only things I'd have liked to see though is lowering the wisdom requirements for the spell tiers: by the time you find all the tablets to get to level 4 there's no point as you needed to kill almost everything on the way to finding those tablets in the first place, and the shitty end fight changed or gotten rid of.
