Recommend me a good, newer non-popamole shooter

Theme (WW2, modern world, sci-fi) doesn't matter. Go. :M

EDIT: current recommendations in the order of how appealing they look to me right now:

- STALKER Call of Pripyat
- Call of Juarez 2
- Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay
- Singularity
- Necrovision
- Arma2 Operation Arrowhead

Which one of these is the best and why? Discuss!

I've finished Condemned a few days ago. While being multiplatform it's pretty OK. And creeeeeepy. Just in case you haven't played it. Not as new though.

I've heard about something called Singularity, something like a non-popamole Wolfenstein x Bioshock mix. It's supposed to be out in Europe, or so I've heard. Have anyone here played it.

Does it get better after the first couple of chapters? I played through those (up to the end of the one where birds fly through the station window, followed by a helpful prompt telling you to go through a door when approaching the door), but I got bored of the automation, console rash, health kits everywhere, tiny levels and... well, lack of creepy.

Seconding Call of Pripyat - pretty much what STALKER should have been all along. There's a Negrovision expansion/prequel just recently released, not sure how well it scored, but might be worth noting. Still need to play the original. Was going to make a thread about Singularity to see if anyone had tried it, it does look like a fairly enjoyable light shooter if you're not expecting much.

Anyway, Call of Juarez 2 is pretty fun, give it a shot. I screamed hysterically about it when I started playing, but once I got used to how it was closer to CoD Wild West than the (flawed, but also fairly fun) original, I enjoyed it for what it was and all that.

I've been playing Singularity, which I haven't seen anyone mention around here.

It's pretty consolized, but nowadays it's hard to expect anything else. Okay game, has some fun stuff in it. At least it runs well and boots up fast.

So Call of Pripyat is good, yes? I never played the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (god that's annoying to type) either, isn't this a sort of RPG-ish shooter? Do you have stats n' shit?

No stats, just inventory and equipment with your gear dictating how powerful you are. CoP is excellent, and unlike the previous installations doesn't require patches or mods to be playable.

Singularity is pretty decent. Nice visceral shooting, puzzles are simple and not particularly enjoyable though. Certainly better than Bioshock or its sequel.

Judging from the current thread, Arma2 Operation Arrowhead seems to be a bugfest extraordinaire, and I really don't need to suffer through that sort of thing right now. I'll put that at the end of the queue for now I think.

Also, is skyway just hatin' or are the STALKER games really that flaky/unfinished?

People just exaggerate. There are some annoying multiplayer bugs (I imagine you won't be playing it right away) and bugs that rape the shit out of your PC if they detect that you are a socialist sodomite from Netherlands - but singleplayer part of the game is the most bug-free out of all BIS games to date. I've completed campaign and almost all single player scenarios but one (can't find artillery in Death From Above mission :< ) without any problems.

You don't say

Freelance: Another vote for Call of Juarez. Not the most fun I've ever had with a shooter, but it's okay I guess. Chronicles of Riddick is definetely +1. It's quite a good game, despite of itself :)

Levels do get bigger (unless by tiny you mean corridors). The ones by the end are easily the size of ones in Thief (only linear). Combat unfortunately remains the same and the very last level throws just too many enemies at you which is rather tedious. But levels themselves tend to get pretty King'ish like the mannequin shop, old farm in the middle of nowhere and the abandoned school.

Well judging by two clans and public gamers I've played with since OA came out nobody complains about the bugs, apart from two annoying MP ones (bugged advanced wounding system and backpacks getting duplicated when you try to open them). It can't really be compared with the horrors of initial versions of OFP, OFPR and ArmA1 which were only playable by very very lucky people and only for a few missions before gamebreaking bugs were starting to kick in.

I had a lot of fun with Stalker COP. Haven't played the others but I heard Singularity was really short.
