Why not just use an emulator?
Because it doesn't work that good.

Also, you have to have a decent pc to make it work.

And a decent pc costs more than a ps2.

Wizardry: Tales of the Forsaken Land is fully worth getting if you like the old blob-party dungeon grinds. If you liked the King's Field series from ps1 - another pretty traditional first person dungeon crawl - there's also Eternal Ring in the same vein and the proper sequel King's Field: The Ancient City, both comfortably familiar feeling.

Buy Black, it's the best FPS on Play 2,
Mercenaries is good,
GTA San andreas damn good,
Burnout 3 is decent,
Gran Turismo 4 if you're into race simulators, Resident Evil 4 is pretty cool,
Okami is definitely a great Zelda like game,
Prince of Persia games,
James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing (trust me),
Shadow of the Colossus very nice and original but short, Kingdom Hearts (I'm guessing you don't mind the gayness if you played FF X-2)
need for speed hot pursuit 2 and most wanted are ok,
Onimusha 3: Demon Siege has french badass Jean Reno,
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was dumb fun,

well, those are the ones I have most fond memories of, any doubts feel free to ask.

Also, Syphon Filter is shit and DMC rocks.

I'll just quote myself here because most of the other suggestions suck

SLAI: Steel Lancer Arena International (Another cool mech game much more action packed/arcade style, ripoff of Phantom Crash for the Xbox, which was slightly better, though this has online versus play, assuming the servers haven't died yet.)

I think it's a sequel, not a ripoff. Also worthy of note is that the mecha designs aren't gundam-like, instead having tires, tank treads, spider legs and arms that are the weapon itself (instead of humanoid hands to hold a gun).

Plus, interesting story, which doesn't hurt.

Some monsters are meant to be that way. Different types age differently. Some gain all their best stats right before the kick the bucket, others are more front loaded and thus better for having a long high end fighting/adventuring career.

It's like ironman pokemon or something.

I did like that you generate monsters from cds and can mix them in the monster mixing machine.

Fucking sweet game. Played it a couple years ago. I was able to make a very cool, industrial looking mech. It had drill arms and tank treads.

I don't remember caring for the plot too much. But hell, you put that many parts in a game and I'm set. Don't need a story, characters or anything. To anyone thinking of trying this game out, know that it's very much like the Armored Core series of games. If you liked the arena mode in thrm you'll love this, because that's basically how the entire game operates except with more people fighting at once.

The only thing that through me off was the anime-inspired character designs.

To clarify, no real people are shown - the player and npcs are representd by avatars. Most are wireframes, animals and blocky dolls - some of them kinda look like anime-style people. Nothing too glaring, though.

Hey, wasn't phantom crash for the xbox?

btw, something important

The Phantom Crash series stands out from other Mech combat games in that it focuses very heavily on stealth tactics. Gameplay is not strictly about maneuverability and aim, but about ambush, hiding, and escape. This is largely caused by the inclusion of the ability to become invisible for a short period, which is usable by both the player and enemies.

This is my favorite part. You can take on stronger enemies that can kill you in 2 seconds if you play smart, and you have to be paranoid careful becase the reverse is also true.

Hey is the Syphon Filter for PS2 any good? I really liked the original for PS1.

I loved the PS1 games, but ended up selling the PS2 one after playing it for half an hour. Single player was shit as it was designed almost entirely for co-op multiplayer. In that context, it would probably be fun, but playing it by myself was boring within 20 minutes.

Controls suck for action games.

I used to have Wipeout Fusion. That game was awful.
I have Freedom Fighters and BG&E for PC.
Actually I've never played Dynasty Warriors 4. I thought I had it, but it turns out I had 3. I know for a fact that 6 is decline popamole.

Can you guys give any sort of reasons beyond a list of games? I'd appreciate it.

God of war 2 is a must play, probably the best looking game on ps2 after shadow of colossus. Try FF12 too, the fight system is different from the other ones, much more reactive and entertaning.
Not on your list but i suggest valkyrie profile silmeria, rogue galaxy, suikodens(except 4 i think).

Some already mentioned:

- Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - high-speed mecha game, quite short but beyond awesome.
- Warship Gunner 2 - you already have this.
- Okami - zelda like (whatever the hell that means), loved the expiration in this game and the drawing gimmick.
- Metal Slug Anthology - the best "run and gun" 2D shooter, collection of all games.
- Ace Combat 5: TUW - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1bRjHmAPR4 - the best arcade jet porn in existence. Awesome cheesy story included.
- Ace Combat Zero: TBW - Lacked in story department but still loads of fun.
