The objectives are also placed pretty nicely. The route is obcious, we circle the map, searching for the units to kill, then we converge at the final objectives.

Debriefing
Ok, I confess, I fuked up this one a bit. The northern group could have used an extra tank.
Would have made a hell of a difference. Although, in my defence, there were more objectives down south,
so I expected timid resistance up north.

The turn limit was generous, and yet I almost made the Major victory. Also, the theory seems to be confirmed, finishing the scenario early gives a bit more points, although I'm not sure how much was the "good press" bonus, so in the end, the difference could have been minimal, like 200 points or so.

Our bombers are now officially awesome. Overall, it shapes up nicely.
I have open slots and I am out of recruits atm, so please enlist, or I will reincarnate our fallen under a different name.
We have enough Tank leader by now, btw, and we could use an extra Artillerist or two asap.

Overrun is such a sweet perk. Arty gets also massive suppression values with veteran orders.

Yep. Overrun with Blitz makes really makes mopping up easy. I also think that Carius just got wedge attack. Anyways, I'll be doing some levelling in the next updates, and I'm planning to show some of the high level veteran orders, with effects if possible.

Yep it's uber. To the point of being unbalancing in fact, but, you should see that in the coming updates.

By the way, we need volunteers for arty and the AT. If noone volunteers, I'll reincarnate Merkwurdigliebe and Vaarne in these roles (don't worry I'll get you that bloody StuG eventually :-P)

We're halfway through with the game, btw, so I am cautiously optimistic about pulling this through.

Unfortunately, it's PGIII's big flaw that once we get us some good equipment and the majority of the officers become level 6+ a lot of the game becomes rinse/lather/repeat, that's why I am not bothering anymore to note that the artillery is preemptively shelling everything that comes in its ine of sight and that our tanks quickly mop up thanks to blitz+overrun.

The Stug with the 105mm howitzer would be a nice alternative I guess for mobile artillery. And given the time frame of the scenario, the StugIIIF/8 should be available around this time. I think they were available right about the time the Marder series pops up.

I cannot find a file with units and the date they appear in the game, so I'm guessing a bit. Is the Nebelwerfer any good as an artillery piece?

We've been having a neblwerfer, thing is, stat wise it's inferior to the howitzers we use right now - on par with soft target damage, but noticeably lower AP capability. I may use it for a mission or two for shits and giggles, though. Why not.

I'm probably thinking of Steel Panthers, where the StuH42 (that's the proper name of the StuG with the 105 mm howitzer) was seen as an artillery piece. Although it will have a shorter range than the regular 105mm, it is much tougher.

I'm checking the PG2 manual right now, and the StuH42 comes up in 10/42 as an AT piece; it's really arty, too bad you cannot change this easily. It has 15 Soft Attack (compared to 11 for the StuG IIIF - 4/42), which is quite neat, I'm not sure how that would work in the actual game. In PG1 it's listed as artillery however, strange.

The Nashorn comes up quite early in 43, which rather surprised me.

There actually IS a StuH42 is PG3, listed as artillery. Sadly, it's on par with the rest of the self-propelled artillery pieces, range 2, pitiful ammo. Attack stats are ok though.

Shame that you cannot easily flip some of the units, say, the 88 into AA and AT mode.
It's possible to a degree with some veteran orders, but it's an Ersatz - for AAs you can fire one shot only, and ATs need the leader to be level 10 for defensive fire.

Zee operation looks fairly straightforward. First major objective is relatively close, but taking the other two requires splitting the Kampfgruppe.

A smaller task force will take the western approach, taking the secondary. They will move quickly to the Western major objective and wait for air support.

10 turns for major victory, it is unlikely that we'll take the eastern secondary, at best we'll take the western one,
possibly the central one as well, but that'll depend on how the situation develops.

The forces are divided as follows:
Kampfgruppe West is Anus, Carius and Derper, with Nex providing recon support.

Gondolin and Vaarne will be the scouting party for the eastern secondary.

Rest will be the Main Kampfgruppe. Cassidy will protect our backside.

I promoted Carius a bit, weird, whe should already have the second commendation by now.
Maybe it's so random, or the counter (or whatever) resets itself between missions.

What just happened over there: the T35 is overstrengthed (like most of the shitty equipment tends to be), to 12 str.
The tank has ok stats, which are further increased by 20%, making it pretty uber.
Anus fired at it, but the effect was minimal. Nex was forced to retreat into difficult terrain, far from Katz's protective umbrella.

To add insult to injury, fraps missed the frame saying he's KIA.

Western approach is approaching target. There was some lagging due to an odd angle of the roads and the artillery needed a refit badly. They need luftwaffe support to take the objective, but that's not happening until we secure the eastern objective.

Our pioniere are lost, which is most unfortunate. We're short on infantry as we are.
Unfortunately, the Nebelwerer is lagging behind and was not used to full capacity in the previous turn.

Also, as you can see, some marauders were spotted near Vaarne's position, they already took the airfield.
Good thing we left a rear guard.

Shame to see Nex go in such a stupid, stupid fashion, although his demise is overshadowed by HooDoo's.
We're currently undermanned when it comes to infantry, worse still, there's nobody to replace them, I only have a bunch of level twos.

The scenario was fairly straightforward. The deaths were simply bad luck and a bad case of AI pulling artillery
and bombers out of its ass (the bomber that nailed Nex was deployed in enemy turn). Not much I could do, they had superior airpower there and I only had 2 fighters to go around. Unfortunately, winning air support is tedious when you have to juggle protecting your column and chasing bombers.

I only took one secondary this time. t was unfeasible to attempt more, as our air forces would be stretched thin to do it.
I could have taken the central secondary, but I'd rather pull out and not risk losing carius or derper. Or Azira, with two katyushas out there I didn't want to risk it and we need that infantry support badly.

I'm a bit worried about the infantry. We have a shitload of tank and AT leaders, so maybe I'll just plop some of them as SS to support our advance and we'll se how it goes.

Next one is Stalingrad, we're off the steppes and back into the cold again, so brace yourselves.

Yep, seems like HooDoo is one tough motherfucker. You recall he went MIA the last time.

I think I'll use that AT leader and plop him into infantry shoes just for the heck of it.
That'll mean no veteran orders and no tactician commendation, but we'll se how it goes.
