I'm looking forward to finishing the first game so I don't have to fuck with the terrible combat any more. "Throw rock at dog" followed by "Equip hammer and wiggle the mouse all over the fucking place" is annoying.

The writing seems a bit too verbose and forced at times as well, but not enough to really bother me. I guess if they were going for a Lovecraftian feel then it kind of goes with the territory.

I thought the point of combat being awkward was to discourage it.

Not really, given the reliance on save points and clunkiness of combat.

If you have any real difficulty killing the dogs, you suck, so it is easier just to smack them about than sneak past them. Doesn't stop the combat controls being irritating.

It's like Daggerfall's combat, but pumped full of fail.
