The developers of Halfway have finally announced their next project.
I am not fan of their switch to procedurally generated levels, but it should still be good.

A PULP ADVENTURE SCENARIO, HUH? CARE TO ELABORATE?
With pleasure:
The year is 1936.
Ancient, bewildering artefacts are materializing on black markets around the world. Rumours of a new element, which German researchers allude to as Valkyrium-500, are spreading. Hushed voices speak of an elusive “Projekt Walhalla” - the meaning of which remains obscure. Meanwhile, agents of the Reich are reportedly conducting frantic excavations around the globe.
However, these puzzling artefacts also managed to draw the attention of wealthy private collectors. As the owner of Lankford & Co, a specialised business known for recovering unique items quickly and discreetly, you welcome this.
Your responsibility is to uncover the remains of a lost civilisation, before the Germans get to it. How exactly you go about this, is up to you and your thrown-together band of eccentric adventurers!
PATHWAY IS ROBOTALITY'S UPCOMING TACTICAL RPG SET IN A 1930S PULP ADVENTURE SCENARIO
Pathway is currently in pre-alpha. The game will be released on Windows, Mac and Linux in 2017.
- FIGHT deep and demanding turn-based strategy battles.
- GUIDE a cast of eccentric characters on a journey into the unknown.
- EXPLORE lost temples, haunted tombs and Wehrmacht strongholds in ever-changing levels.
- DISCOVER mysterious artefacts - powerful remnants of an ancient civilisation.
- LISTEN to an original soundtrack by Gavin Harrison of Halfway fame.
- IMMERSE yourself in a gorgeous 16-bit world built upon a novel pixel/voxel hybrid technology.
SO IS THIS BASICALLY LIKE HALFWAY BUT DURING WORLD WAR II?
Good question. Yes and no.
Yes: Pathway will indeed be another turn-based tactics game in which you travel back and forth between your homebase (team management, backstory snippets) and the missions (exploration, battles).
No: We’ve learnt some lessons along the way and have spent a lot of time tightening the core gameplay. A few important distinctions:
- Deterministic Hit-System: We’ve removed hit-chances completely. If you can attack an enemy, you will have a guaranteed hit. Of course there are various factors influencing whether you can attack an enemy or not (such as cover). However, no more burnt sacrifices to the gods of chance will be necessary!
- Procedural Levels: In Pathway all levels are procedurally generated. No session will be the same as the last. Replayability galore!
- Character Development: Your characters will gain experience and learn new skills. In addition to being able to manage each character’s equipment, you can now also pick various perks to customise their strengths and weaknesses.
I am not fan of their switch to procedurally generated levels, but it should still be good.
