alright. where do i apply for the codex fleet?
i've been playing on and off since beta in solo mode, it's about time to bother somebody.

is there some request/restriction about side and class? i think i'll focus on my nausican tac, it's the only one who managed to have some purple doffs.

No restrictions, requirements, or anything like that. Just your username and current alts (both Fed and KDF), and we'll beam you up.

Don't worry, it's not. And with us, you can just ghostbase with Norfleet to get a better Nausicaan ship (I assume you mean you're using one of the pre-endgame premium ships). We'll set you up with the way to invite and promote all your alts, that's generally expected and allowed, though you can always just make noise in the private channel, and someone will invite your alt.

That's dangerous in STO. Most of the LARPing/RPing community in the game seems to be... Uhm, how to put it? Utterly degenerate, I guess. I was on a few mild RP fleets and, man, I did almost miss Champions Online. At least over there they don't spout technobabble while trying to get into your cyber-pants.

And then there's the furries. D:

And the 'I wrote a gigantic biography that's pretty much a slideshow of genre cliches and I will get very, very, very angry at you when you subtly make fun of me while in-character' ones.

Scary.

yes, that's scary indeed, sometimes i see those 10-15-20 pages long biographies and i'm amazed at how well some people are good at wasting time.
i'm a "casual" larper: my nausicaan wants to pilot nausicaans ships because the once glorious klingon culture is now rubbish, the liberated borg wants to go back to the collectivity, the leathen loathes the society so all his officers are actually slaves, the half-human half-vulcan alien is rejected by both races, the midget alien is an ex slave now looking for vengeance...
shit, i just saw a worrying emo pattern.

My desire to avoid possible contact with scalies is what convinced me to play a Reman instead of a Gorn.

I wonder if the STO admins would object to the R.R.W. YiffInHell?

Indeed, hence why it's a secret yearning. Whenever I've had to enter Drozana in order to do something, I occasionally watch with morbid curiosity, like I'd just stumbled on a massive trainwreck.

The only time I noticed some larpers was over at DS9. They were in quarks having in-character conversations, and when they noticed me they all said "Admiral" and saluted.

I saluted back and got the fuck out of there.

If people start doing that to me, generally (since it's often Valkar) I give the Vulcan salute and promptly escape or pretend I'm afk.

KDF-side is expecting a critical delivery, so I have temporarily locked the base a precautionary measure as usual.

Normal PvE is *never* getting harder when you level up, that's just not how it works. You are literally fighting with a handicap until the T4 ships because you can't do half the shit you could.

Well, technically, it does actually get harder: The ship you have becomes increasingly crap while you still haven't unlocked your actual ship. Once you get to the point where you get your SHIP, it immediately nosedives back into piss-easy.

Or you could just powerlevel through all that crap and skip it.

If you play on Elite, though, the game will become more and more insane until you get to level fifty. By that point it is actually insane. Some types of ships (klinks) are still pretty easy to defeat even when the fights can take up to ten minutes, but other ships (romulans) are bleeping crazy: The D'Deridex and the Mogai, and the ships of those weird gamma quadrant guys they are allied with, are made of DOOM.

Ah, yes, and ground does pretty much become impossible. ._.

Mogai have Tactical Team, meaning if you dont kill it before it uses it you break off and wait until its timer runs out otherwise you have to kill all its shields because that is what Tactical Team does, balance shields.

Have to admit I watched some people LARPing in Quark's at one point. Was a klingon and a fed arguing at the bar and I was playing dabo 'cause dabo. Was kinda awkward, but entertaining to see after going through Drozana a few times.

How are the Romulans, by the way? Haven't been keeping up on STO at all but I'm mildly curious. Are they even more half-baked than the klingons? Better developed? How do they fit in to the general gameplay, are they a new third "Side" or do they work with either side in PVP/whatever or what?

Romulans are forced to ally with the feds or KDF at low levels. They then pretty much become a member of that faction except that have their own missions and tier 5 ships.

you get a few romulan only missions (up to lvl 40 if you do nothing else iirc... some of the missions are decent, some are horrible), then side with feds or kdf for the rest (which are the same as the original ones with npcs either responding to you being a romulan or not based on whether the QA actually looked at it or not)

to me they feel even less fleshed out than the klinks (who got more low lvl missions in the patch), their starting area is better than first city and worse than starfleet academy, the ships have their special gimmicks (which is nice) and new content got some more people playing again... so i guess you might want to give it a try to see what's what, but don't expect the game to suddenly be bug free or stable or stuff like that

Speaking of high-level ships, could anyone recommend me a good endgame warbird to work towards?

I would hold, right now the choices are either escortish (T'varo, Dhelan and Mogai) or cruiserish (Haakona and D'deridex), the jack-of-all-trades seems to be the D'deridex that gives a mix of high level abilities were the Dhelan being the closest to a science ship.

The Haakona is kinda of a strange case, its a M/VAE but with just 2 parts and more of a cruiser that a escort as you can pick the part you can fly like a Escort with the Assault module and its BO allows to function as a science ship of sorts, the problem might be the parts but I seen the Guardian part use Singularity Jump on top of a Breen Sarr Theln, its not as aggressive on firing as the M/VAE parts but does use TSS on the assault module.

If you had the Starter Pack I would point into the T'varo since its a decent ship and you would get the Console set, right now I would say the Haakona because of it just using one console and does work as a fast attack ship using the Assault Module with somewhat reliable backup.

Those are the pay options, free its just a choice of Ha'apax (Cruiser), Ha'nom (science ship and the only Romulan Science ship) and Ha'feh (Escort).
