Chapter 012. Down the Barrel
Ambient (Fallout - Soundtrack - "Metallic Monks" (Lost Hills))
So, do you think this gun has the same muzzle size as you?
No! Please! I already told you everything I know!
My family will pay for me handsomely! [begins to sob]
Ugh. My gun has bigger balls than you do, dipshit.
Puhleaaazzz...
Shut it already. I'll call your mommy.
Thank you! Thank you!
Boann quits the cell slamming the door behind her.
You seem to get better at it.
And screw you too.
You really should try to have some fun...
Fun? Fun?!
Cuz cap'n is prepping for 'nother nurse raid.
Boann slids down the wall and buries her face in her hands.
What's going on here?
Our chief chaingal seems to have a lil' crack.
I'll crack your crack till you quack, you crack'ead.
See? We need some humanitarian action now.
Brigid sits besides Boann.
We do need some money, you know?
I know. But I'm a biologist, not some... butcher! These kids don't deserve this! I don't deserve this!
Come on. "These kids" had raped our gal for a week. How is she, by the way?
Still unconscious. The helly deprivation was worse than I thought... That's not what I wanted to do!
We all do things we didn't want to.
And what do you do that is so hard?
Babysitting you.
Heh. You bitch.
Thanks. Besides, I think we're not going to do it for long. I have something planned that should get us more cash.
Really?
Yes. Girls should bring you some of those nurses soon. Ransoming them would give you some breathing room. In the meantime, try to find a way to torture people that won't drive you mad.
Brigid gets up and leaves.
There's something really disturbing in her phrase, you know.
Yeah... Say, can you teach me how to smoke?
Ambient (ALESTORM - Drink)
There's their bus!
Lucy, Karen, Jill - second team.
After me! Remember, don't break the goods!
Parrot, I choose you! Watch the flank!
RAWKRAWK!
Wha-
-sabi!
Bingo!
In!
AIEeee...
Ders noone here, cap'n!
Split!
Karen! Warehouses!
You sure they would hide in dem crates?
Shut up and keep looking.
Dat office?
Yah... Look, booze?
WAAAH
Shit!
No, get back here!
Eeep!
And that's only the beginning of your sexual education!
RAWK
I got one, no, two of them on the road! Two! Four!
Coming.
Jump on my mark... Mark!
And with that it was over.
So, why don't we steal that bus?
Are you going to fly it?
Mebbe I am!
It has a beacon embedded in the engine. You can't break one without breaking the other.
Clever bastards.
[bandaging her arm] You're not the first one with that bright idea.
Sigh. Wait, when were you hit?
That last nurse moved her barrel a bit too quick.
Oh. Pity that... What about our beacon in our bus?
Minnie had sabotaged it a week before our escape. Took her four hours.
I had no idea.
Of course you hadn't.
And what's thats supposed to mean?!
It means we're flying. Strap up!
Ambient (Blues Delight - Slightly Hung Over)
Honey, I'm home!
What is the meaning of this?
The meaning is you should be kissing me everywhere instead of showing off your true self!
Are you drunk?
It doesn't matter! What matters is the fact that your best brainer had brought you a solution to all your problems.
You are drunk.
And you grouch like a grandma. But! I have a solution for your mood problem!
Stop or I'll make you.
And more importantly, your money problem as well.
A-ha! Now you're listening!
Maybe. What do you propose?
Here, drink this.
No way.
What, don't you trust me? After all things we've did together?
I don't remember doing anything...
I did you. Now drink.
Oh, my!
Marvelous, isn't it?
I think I'm going blind.
But you won't do it alone! We'll sell it for atrocious amounts of money.
What is it?
Spirits, most of it. It also has a mix of some local herbs, the recipe was obviously transferred through generations. And a secret ingredient that will make customers to return for another shot.
Specifically?
Trace amounts of hellerium give it addictive qualities.
What?!
Yee-eah. And the best thing? It means no sneaky bastard would be able to copy our recipe and rip us off.
I thought there're many hellerium-tainted zones around.
Well, yeah, but Bryanna ran some maps and it seems most of it is weakly concentrated. Others can't gather it in volumes that we can.
So we have on our hands a natural monopoly on an addictive substance... How addictive?
Somewhat. The best thing is, the weaker it is the more addictive it gets in the long run. Goblin bartenders would kill for it.
How did you found about it?
I ran some tests on rats.
And?
Humans should form an addiction several months to several years from the first doze.
So we have an addictive drink that kicks like a mule, with undescribable taste, that can't be reproduced by competition and provides a possibility for others to think they're cheating on us?
Pretty much, yeah.
Your drink is revolting and your plan is disgusting. Order runts to mass produce it immediately.
I already did.
You're my favourite brainer, you know?
And I haven't finished yet. I found a new toy for you.
Do you really, actually, seriously want to get whipped?
So vulgar! I'll show you some other possibilities.

Got a bit cocky, ending turn near standing enemies, but I betted on them trying to shoot in melee and failing (since nurses seem to have bad melee stats).
On the other hand, I finally got a decent trade good to produce. When you begin the game, the best good for sale is Hellerium with return on investment of about 12%. Grog has ROI 23%. It still seems like a trap - 4 months to recoup an investment! I suspect that having a bigger crew to run more missions is preferable. Since, you know, the game loop revolves around tactical missions and it's a good game design to promote core game loop. Xpz seem to have some thought put into the design (unlike most AAA games these days).
But I digress. I can't get any craft or recruits yet and I would like to get some income bump to reliably support more brainers. I think it's the biggest one available - grog gives about 15k profit per runt-month (compared to 10k for hellerium).
I also vaguely remember seeing somewhere a guide on "how to beeline to the juiciest missions and win moneyz", but I don't want to spoil myself on missions yet.
