We venture inside the cave.
Before I know it, Samantha is set upon by Lord Hungous, wielding an ungodly double axe. He critically hits her, but she isn't hurt too bad due to a spell of False Life cast on her. Could've been worse.
That is, until their Shaman casts Silence on my party, and all my spellcasters fail the will save. D'oh.
Taking a moment to survey the situation - I find that Hungous' force is quite small:
The Shaman, a Witch, a Marauder and a plain orc Soldier wielding a bow.
The commanders I had previously slain outside are supposed to join him if you leave HB and return. I don't see Noblig, so it's probably a glitch.
Anyway, it is clear that the primary threat is Hungous. We'll have to concentrate on him.
Oh yeah, the Witch can be a hassle too
This is starting to look bad.
Burne uses his wand of Magic Missiles to get rid of the witch.
Not sure he's supposed to be able to do that while silenced, oh well. It also works with the scolls, so I can still heal and cast spells that I scribed.
Pure horror unfolds, as Hungous cuts Tulip down with his Unholy axe.
My mistake was in letting him close up the distance and use his full round attack. Hopefully John will fare better.
And Hungous is down, somewhat miraculously I should say.
The trick was to summon creatures to occupy him (e.g. that dog lying before him).
The rest of his group fall soon after.
The mood improves by 3dB.
Look who's waiting for us outside.
Kind of tragic, really.
Speaking of tragedy, on my way back to Hommlet I encounter the band of adventurers. I foolishly provoke them despite my condition, and bite the dust.
TPK.
Reload.
