Pain developer rebrands as narrative-driven Deck Nine, to reveal new entry in acclaimed franchise at E3 2017
Idol Minds, developer of the PlayStation 3 title Pain, has rebranded as Deck Nine Games as the result of a shift in direction to focus on the creation of narrative-driven titles, and are “deep in development” on a new addition to a “critically acclaimed franchise” from a “leading AAA video game publisher,” more information on which will be revealed at E3 2017, the company announced.
Deck Nine has spent the past three years on the development of a toolset called “StoryForge,” which “provides unparalleled freedom” for Deck Nine’s writers, directors, and artists to tell stories.
“With the creation of our new, proprietary toolset StoryForge and the shift in studio focus, we are removing the shackles from our creative team and bringing together our two passions; meaningful storytelling and rich gameplay,” said Deck Nine vice president Jeff Litchford. “We’ve invested heavily in our staff of incredibly talented developers and in creating some truly remarkable tools. Our game will be announced at E3 this year where you’ll be able to see our efforts for yourself.”
Deck Nine president and CTO Mark Lyons added, “The studio has been focused on the creation of StoryForge for the last three years. We built StoryForge to give our writers, directors and cinematic artists and give them the tools they need to make deep, interactive, great looking games. We can’t wait to show what we have created with it.”
E3 2017 runs from June 13 to 15.

Fans of Ashly will know she’s an Emmy nominated writer and it’s great to have her writing dialogue for a new younger, 16 year old Chloe, this time voiced by extremely talented actress Rhianna DeVries.
https://www.reddit.com/r/lifeisstrange/comments/6gof4n/life_is_strange_before_the_storm_has_been/What’s the difference between the Complete Season, the Season Pass and the Deluxe Edition?
The Complete Season includes Episodes 1, 2 and 3. The Season Pass includes Episodes 2 and 3 and is purchasable if you have already purchased Episode 1 as a standalone Episode. The Season Pass does NOT include Episode 1.
- The Deluxe Edition includes the following:
- Episodes 1,2 and 3.
- The Bonus Episode “Farewell” in which you can play as a young Max (to be released after Episode 3). This is a bonus episode for those who would like to play as Max one final time. Anyone purchasing the Complete Season, which does not include the Bonus Episode "Farewell", will still get the full Before the Storm story.
- Mixtape Mode, a main menu option which allows you to create a playlist of the in-game licensed music and set it to play against an in-game moment of calm.
- The Outfit Pack, a set of three additional outfit options that Chloe can change into at certain points in the story.
I thought I read that the mini-prequel was to be done by someone else, and there is also a sequel coming from Dontnod. Two different games. What, Dontnod isn't doing this?
There are a few surprises in the plot that even I didn't see coming, so not really that shit.I started playing Life is Strange (for research purposes). Story, characters, etc. are SHIT, but, surprisingly, it could be considered a decent light adventure game. It has more and better gameplay options (and choices) than any Telltale game or walking sim like Dear Esther et al. Not to hard to accomplish, anyway.
And this "StoryForge" thing, if true, and licensed (probably not going to do it), could be a good tool to make this kind of adventure games. But I guess it's just marketing lingo. It also sounds like a thing MCA would like, don't you think? MCA writing a couple of NPCs for LiS2? Yeah probably.
