This is just an explanation why you are here alone.
Who would I be with?
Your companions, if you were travelling in a party.
Ok, and they would get dragged here because...?
Because of... the grasping? Honestly, it always seemed like a pretty weak explanation to me too.
Can't I just stab them?
I am afraid not, you will need to pass the trials.
Trials? In hell? This should be good.
Elminster has nothing on The Codex.
How are we able to maintain 20 reputation is beyond me.
Face it, people just love me.
I wonder if we will have any opportunity to improve our saving throws even more.
Our chance to learn a spell is 96. In practice we have only failed once or twice.
Ten million XP worth of kills. Not too shabby, if I say so myself.
All my 2291 victims must be so proud now.
I still have no idea what these nuts do.
Nice decor.
Area completed!
Except, this does not do anything. We will need to descend the five staircases and face our trials.
I have to admit I really like this endgame sequence. It is interesting, sufficiently epic (but not overdone in this aspect), fits the story, and allows you to improve your character, while allowing to make decisions that have actual consequences. As far as RPG final levels go, this might even be my favourite of all.
Ok, let's go with this one, because why not.
Are we going to argue who died more now?
Well, 'share' is not the best word here.
I feel so smart repeating what he said, but with a question mark at the end...
And I will not need fourty wild dogs, gnolls and hobgoblins this time.
Oh, I can. You should not have any doubts about that!
Wait, am I not already able to change into the slayer at will?
Next time: After a few weeks' break, we shall return with a surprise, and then resume The Codex's travels in Throne of Bhaal.
This is a detailed explanation why we have made these particular choices during the hell trials, based on the earlier poll where you have picked options which best describe you perception of The Codex. I have taken your votes into careful consideration and assigned them to particular trials - either the good or the evil path - and then, based on the result I have chosen The Codex's path in the trials.
Theme song:
Actually those were the optimal character build choices in my opinion, the voting had nothing to do with them, but it was great to see how you guys see The Codex, so thank you for voting nonetheless.
And to think I had completely forgotten about those trial shenanigans before the actual fight, I was certain you were teleported right in front of Sarevok Iraneus (goddammit).
Anyway, glory to the Codex! I shall await its continued adventures with trepidation.
Thanx for a very entertaining adventure. Although I've played through this game over seven times and there was nothing new to me, you still managed to keep it fun and engaging.
I said a few weeks, since I want to play through The Witcher: Wild Hunt. I think I am making good progress, I have just finished White Orchard (the first of three maps), so that is around 1/3 through already, I guess?

Hi there. I know every one of you sadistic fucktards is dying to see another another update of "Let's Torment The Codex Some More And Make Him Die Over And Over Again", but there will be no more of that shit, because our host is as of now... unavailable.
FOR ETERNITY.
There, mediocre in everything. Suits perfectly.
Wait, what is going on? And what happened to my face? Why am I a monkey again?
Like you ever ceased to be one. You shall now pay for everything you've done! A thousandfold.
I know you've finished this game recently. I guess that makes you an EXPERT then.
I would not claim as much, but...
So you will not need the Load Game superpower.
Wait-
Yes, I want them to be as punishing as possible, now that I won't be the one experiencing them directly.
...
Update #1: Monkey in the Deerlands
Uh, did we miss the opening cinematic?
There is none.
Laaaaame. Baldur's Gate had one. Granted, it kind of sucked, but it was there.
'Mico Selva' has dysentery, lol.
Wait, we are missing the beginning of the conversation.
Fuck off, I'm new to this side of the business. You'll have to figure out what was said earlier by yourself.
It actually does not matter, because the disease I caught will just stop being relevant at some point.
What.
Yeah, it kind of... fades away, I guess.
Laaaaaame.
Engwi-what? Such a stupid name.
Thanks, that biawac explanation really answered all my questions.
A magical rock, got it.
Charming attitude.
Such witty banter...
Not that ours is any better.
At least we do not charge for it.
...Yet.
It was nice knowing you.
tl;dr: Get berries or die to move on with the plot.
Calm down, Calisca, the urgency is quite fake.
Ah, my investment in Mechanics starts to pay off immediately!
And it looks like I already have some stuff.
What are these items?
Pre-order bonuses.
The Ring of Postponing Death By a Few Seconds.
And the pet which does nothing, but it can block your path in narrow places during combat, which may be a cause of sudden death.
Has this actually happened?
I would rather not talk about it.
And the potion we have just found. These are mostly useless, or at least they were on the third difficulty - I used them maybe three times in total.
Let me set up a proper formation before we move on.
You're going to hide behind a woman like a fucking coward?
Indeed.
Junk Collector Simulator 2015.
I do not care.
Am I seeing that right? Are you sneaking up to the mushrooms?
I sneak everywhere. Better safe than sorry.
Dead people are good, actually. It is the alive ones that might be a problem. And undead, too.
I wish all the other wilderness areas were as developed as this one is, with clues and fluff text, and other stuff like that.
Would you look at this.
Wait, why is it here? I found this in the Ad- another place in my last game. Are there two?
After you.
Keep them busy.
Stop hiding behind her!
Nope.
Alright, one down.
Whew.
I did not expect you to die in the first fight, but I'm disappointed you didn't get bitten even once.
I hope to continue to disappoint you like this.
AoE looting is a great feature considering how lackluster the itemization and the item system overall are. In Baldur's Gate it kind of mattered who dropped what and it even made for an additional layer of storytelling with some encounters. Here, well, not so much.
And here are the infamous berries.
Look, Calisca, I am not interested in developing you as a character, because you will be dead very soon.
You will be dead much sooner!
Are we done here?
Sure.
Fine, fine. Since the other choice is to slaughter he rest of the caravan.
I'd prefer to do that.
No surprise there.
Watch the whole berry-hunting become irrelevant in 3... 2... 1...
Bye, Sparfel.
He really is not.
Shocking.
Gee, thanks, admiral.
You miss, try again.
Ouch! Damnit, Calisca!
First blood! And certainly not the last!
See, this is how it is done.
Alright.
We did it!
Actually, there is no need to hurry.
Let us try to pull this guy away from the rest.
Fuck, it did not work.
Hahahaha!
Calisca!
Looks like this is going to be one very short adventuring career.
Do not count your chickens before they hatch!
Well, shit.
Constant Recovery somewhat takes care of the Endurance loss, but I need to be careful to not run out of Health.
So far so good.
And if I do that, you will let us all go?
So smart.
Elementary, my dear Codex.
I hate to break it to you, but gods...
Gods what?
I reconsidered. It would be too much of a spoiler... Probably... Maybe.
Good job. Except now he kills you.
We will see about that.
Another party member? That's cheating!
Stay on your feet, Heodan, we need your sneak attacks!
Nicely done, Calisca.
Crap!
For fuck's sake, Heodan, what did I say!
Looks like we are winning anyway, though.
Laaaaame.
Alright!
Looks like no body looting for you.
Thanks, Odema.
Move, people!
That's some pretty looking shit.
Just in the nick of time!
That Heodan guy seems really unlucky, maybe you should dump him.
This just makes me want to play Sorcery! again.
Poor guy just can't catch a break.
Laaaaame.
And that would the right time for... CLIFFHANGER ENDING! See ya, suckers!
