I was planning on loo- uhm, checking all houses anyway.
And speaking of 'checking'.
A pipe?
Ok.
Somebody put this in the drawer thinking 'will fix later', and promptly forgot all about it.
Happens to me all the time.
Oh shit, oh shit!
What? No autokill?
You've been reforged!
Raghead cat people, what a nightmare.
Did I mention how awesome I am to be able to sneak up on a bunch of cats?
Here, kitty-kitty.
Shit! Bad cats! Bad cats!
Somewhat unexpected.
Death Count: 348
Load game.
We need better target prioritization.
Maharajas need to die first.
The rest is just cleaning up.
Easy.
Would you mind stepping out of the cloud of death?
Relax, it's fine.
This building looks important.
Do I know him?
I don't think so?
Kill the caster first.
Alright. Now for the rest of you...
I've decided to take a short break.
This might prove useful.
Look at the bright side, you still have eight lives left!
This felt strangely satisfying.
Fuck off, tin woodman.
When did Irenicus have time to build all these golems?
Have I? I don't remember.
I will play it safe, just in case they are demons in disguise.
Why would you worry about that after the killing the prince of demons?
Point.
One at a time! One at a time!
See? There's plenty for everyone.
It seems like the time has finally come to use this famous artifact.
It works like shit...
The Coolhammer does not deal much more damage, but at least I can attack faster with it.
Is there a better weapon against adamantite golems?
If there is, I hope our readers remind us about it, because fuck if I know.
Well, that took a while...
I forgot about the earlier level up, so now we get two at once.
Awesome!
Haha, trolls.
Trolls, meet doom.
Doom, meet... Uh, nevermind.
Actually it was over when I arrived, but you can keep dying for all I care.
I am so glad I got this hammer.
Is anybody home?
Must have been a hell of a party.
There is a single corpse here.
I never said it was a big party.
A wardstone, aka, "plot progress coupon when we can't think of anything else".
Wait, there's actually some writing on it.
More door!
I don't recall seeing this before...
That is because we do not yet have this spell.
I WANT ALL THE SPELLS!
This glowing object with corpses all around it looks very encouraging.
Oh, this stone?
Feels a bit like cheating at an exam.
Talisman? I hope it's awesome!
Oh.
Time to bash some skulls!
Bash skulls? Get it? Get it?
Yes.
More elven lives saved... Why exactly did I do that?
Oh yeah!
I guess I've found Demin.
I approach any house I want to. problem?
And the dog dies too.
I hope she's hot and not some old lady living with her cats.
Seems like a little bit of both.
Have you tried feeding them? That usually helps.
Exploding kittens!
Damnit, who farted?
How about you step out of the killer cloud?
Ha!
Oh?
Meh...
Oh?
Not bad, although it overlaps a lot with protection from magical weapons, and takes a higher-level spell slot, so...
Ueseless?
Useless.
Still worth knowing, though.
Apologies accepted... for now.
Stop stalling and talk!
'names I would have been proud to speak'. What does this even mean? Get to the point!
What the fuck are you talking about!?
So, he banged the queen and his sister was jealous? That's fucked up.
Yeah, I bet he carved a heart shape on the trunk with text 'J&B 4ever' inside.
Wait, so if I cut down that tree, all elves will die?
You are an elf too.
I am half-god, so I would probably survive.
Huh, they ripped the elfiness out of him? How is that even a punishment? Especially for a wizard, who is immortal anyway?
Yeah, sure, he was going to turn Santa Claus, I would not have expected anything else.
I will kill him for my own reasons, such as, moving on with the plot and getting satisfaction from killing people.
A dragon, you say...
Don't worry about the streets, but I have a feeling that the palace door does not have a conventional lock, and may be warded against simple spells.
Ok, so get him to work asap.
Wow, an end-game fetch quest. Classy.
Fine, fine.
tl;dr: We need to find three artifacts (moonblade, talisman and golden cup) to open the palace door.
I think we have at least one of them already.
Out of my way!
Shit, it's Golem Rape Central.
You, elves, distract those hulking death machines for a while, okay?
What a bunch of losers!
I think it's time to go...
You're a persistent little bugger, aren't you?
Here's your reward.
And here comes the big brother...
...with a large arm reach. Ouch.
What do you know, the sling can be useful after all.
Yet another house to rans- I mean, liberate.
Those mutilated corpses make me feel right at home.
Yet another useless bardic item?
Actually, it is a quest item (which I forgot to screenshot in detail).
What is with these 1st floor doors in this place?
Hi there.
Hello?
Not if I am here.
Stop ignoring me!
What?
The fuck?
I'm glad he did that. Saves me the trouble of killing both of them for ignoring me.
Are you saying you won't be ignored?
I won't even pretend to be excited, this must be the quest moonblade.
Magical green shoes?
Not my colour.
That's a promising spell symbol if I ever saw one.
Oh yeah!
Can't wait to use it.
We probably never will... Well, ok, maybe we will.
Next time: we shall kill a dragon and grab some nuts and then the real fun will begin.
Do you mean literal nuts or...?
Note: You can still vote, but no promises that your vote will be taken into account, as I might not read it before playing through the trials.
Thanks for all the votes! Poll results for decision whether Codex will become good or evil are as follows:
8 votes:
7 votes:
6 votes: permanently butthurt and MWAHAHAHAHAHA!
4 votes: and kingcomrade
3 votes: a bastion of sanity and the best there is
2 votes:
1 vote: cesspool, The Codex hates everything and ultimately, a force of good
no votes: mostly positive and worse than 4chan
I shall calculate Codex' alignment from this using a very complex algorithm, which will tell us whether our hero leans more toward good or evil. (Or I'll just roll the dice.) The details of the result will be explained after the relevant update.
My first playthrough I was so bad. I remember this fight being pretty difficult. I died at least once. But at the end I remember thinking, "huh, that's it? oh. guess not.".
I need to go back and do a solo playthrough with a paladin or something. Spellcasters make it too easy. Last time, I easily got through BG1 - without using the wand of summoning exploit, but then I got bored.
I started my new playthrough after years, with some version of Big World Project called World of Baldur's Gate (BG1+BG2 and addons + IWD + all major quest mods like Darkest of Days) and it's p.slow progress. Played few times a month, done minor thing... why do I keep it still on HDD is beyond me.
Whatever, if I manage to finish it it might be my last time with that game.
No, this is one thing that make WoBG great - instalation is massively simplified and need some time.
Even on my crapy old laptop, with 5400rpm HDD, it take max. 30min.
And I gave up after reading manual of original BWP, which could be massive book tome if it was ever printed.
must have taken forever to install. that's why I've just been playing the EE on my ipad. I got sick of installing 10 different mods with 50 different customizable settings each, only to abandon the game halfway through due to a bug and then uninstall to make room for some other game.

that's the worst. I'm having a similar problem right now... changed a component of a mod, all other mods up the load order got completely screwed. Fuck me if I'm going to spend another 3 hours on clicking the "n" and "i" buttons and watching Sword Coast Stratagems update every bloody mob in the game one at the time.
That's too bad, 'cause some mods are superb and make of Baldur's gate a truly fantastic game.
Yeah. My first time through the game I had no mods, so I don't even really need them for nostalgia playthroughs. Thing is, after playing bg2, it's almost unbearable to go back to the old bg1 ruleset, so I really need the ee at least.
I miss the npc mod for bg1 though. It added some pretty neat conversations with party npcs in bg1 - like being able to yell at jaheira and call her a bitch for not telling you you're a bspawn. I lol'd. Halfway decent npc quests and interactions too.

I'd recommend a playthrough with a solo wizard slayer. Difficult, though the uselessness of the kit is highly embellished. At high levels you get some pretty dope MR and the miscast on hit passive ability works even if you don't do damage with the hit (so works on stoneskin for example). Or you can dual class to thief and remove the main restriction of the class with use any item and then roll with carsomyr.
