How it compaires to Black Company? I liked the Books of the North, but i found the rest of them meh, so i didn't start another series by Cook. Is it worth it?

I'm interested to know that as well. I read the Black Company series. The first books were good. There was a bit of a slump towards the middle when most of the main characters were out of comission. (Srsly, fuck Murgen and the Book of Lady). But it picked up 'k towards the end again.
I found the Dread Empire series good. Not as good as the Books of the North, but better than the Books of the South. The premise is different, the magic works differently, but the series is really, really neet.
I liked the whole series - some books more than others, obviously - but I tend to overlook quality drops when I read something long and get more and more familiar with it along the way. It usually is enough for me if there are no retcons or plot holes, the narrative is consistent (video game writing still has huge problems with these, by the way) and the moment-to-moment reading is entertaining. This is why Dresden Files and The Witcher are some of my favourite book series.
Oh, hey there! Let me introduce you to my good pal SHARPENED STAKE. Oh, and he'd like you to meet those neat HORSE guys. You're gonna have a blast together.
How exactly were mimics created in the first place? Are they a spontaneous evolution, or a product of extreme trolling by some mage bored out of his arse?
Update #74: Machinae Supremacy, part II - That Which Kills You Makes You Stronger Too (After Reloading)
This looks suspiciously like a puzzle hint.
Yup.
Hey, githyanki! This calls for some dramatic irony.
Yeah, something like this.
I've just remembered these guys are huge dicks.
Exactly what I meant.
Gotcha!
Holy fuck, that anti-paladin!
Time-out, time-out!
Shit happens.
Death Count: 323
Loading.
He must have taken offense at that holy sword of theirs being slightly misused.
I am going to make a guess that they are all using non-magical weapons.
Wrong call! Wrong call!
Damn.
Death Count: 324
Load.
I was never very good at heads-or-tails.
I am going to fuck them up.
Oh yeah! Who's the bitch now?
Easy. It is always a matter of selecting the right tools for the job.
Oh shit.
My apologies, dear readers. I seem to have forgotten how to play this game.
Death Count: 325
Loading that save file.
I don't even know what happened there.
I believe it was another anti-paladin.
We have also forgotten to loot this place.
Yeah, wtf? Are you on drugs or something?
Close call!
I wouldn't bother trapping this myself.
And what is that?
Wait, how have I been camping without flint and tinder all this time?
Don't mind the door, it opened all by itself.
Boom! Exploding giths!
Oh, fuck you!
Mwahahahaha! Slaughter!
OH YEAH! EXPLODE INTO TINY CHUNKS!
Hey, a note.
Makes sense.
Let me guess? More githyanki?
Yeah...
Your services are no longer required!
WTF, there was another one here?
Be right back, forgot I was... making tea, yeah.
Ok, back.
Anything else?
Mwahahahaha! Slaughter!
If that is any consolation, you've won the war against mind flayers.
Alright, boss fight!
'Githyanki attack'? I don't think you've been paying attention, bro.
Do your worst.
Oh, don't go. We're not finished yet.
Or whatever.
Heeellloooo there, beautiful.
Awesome...ly disappointing.
Why would you reveal... Oh, FFS, it doesn't make any sense!
It is like this scene in 1941 where they tell him what not to do with the cannon so explicitly, that he is able to fire it at the submarine later.
No link?
I was not able to find it.
You suck.
Hey, a dildo.
It is another oil, obviously, although for some reason I did not make a screenshot of it.
Because you're an idiot?
And what is this...?
Uh-huh.
I missed this door before, so this is going to be anti-climactic.
Holy shit! Holy shit!
It was probably a bad time to announce that potion bet.
Alright!
That's a fucking lot of githyanki.
Thankfully, they're mostly harmless.
Ok, so where does this door lead to?
Uuuuh...
Well, obviously.
Death Count: 326
Quit. Wait, no. Load
What the fuck?
Exactly.
Fortunately, we are beyond such petty concerns like how to defeat a demi-lich.
I'd like you to stand still for a moment...
Perfect.
So, did he keep those 29 coins in the other pocket than the remaining 20 000 or what?
Gimmicky.
Whoa, I'm rich!
You have been rich for months now.
No I am double rich! Triple! Infinitiple!
Oh, wait, this is new, isn't it?
Maybe?
It actually was.
I am now more thieving than ever before.
Let us celebrate that by improving your fighter HLAs.
Works for me.
Let's burn some torches, then.
So, assuming that floor mosaic was the clue...
Fingers crossed...
Alright.
Nice of them to have put a double door so I was not immediately jumped but whatever horrors await beyond.
The horrors in question being a double helping of axe-cow. Okay.
I bet someone could make a hit web-comic out of that.
Rock and Garock... Seriously.
What? Did he just teleport after I shot him?
As for the salamanders...
Oh shit, that hurts. Gotta go!
Good thing they're too stupid to open doors.
Just so this embarrassing situation does not happen again...
Aaaand he's gone again.
Wait just one second...
Here's my full attention... Oh, was that too much?
Looks tasty.
Well, the cow-guy was unyielding, at least until he started running away.
Any hints on fughting demogorgon? I got him to Near Death a couple of times, but he kicks my arse so hard I am considering just sealing him to be done with it.
