Note: This update does not cover any Baldur's Gate 2 content and is not connected to the rest of LP storyline-wise. If you are not interested in Pillars of Eternity beta and/or do not want ANY spoilers from that game, feel free to skip it. I will encase all dialogues and other spoilers in additional spoiler tags, if you want to check out the gameplay without seeing the story, although bear in mind that this is a quest-driven game.
Special Update #01: A Glimpse of Eternity
Where am I? Wait... WHO am I?
You are a death-godlike cipher, drifter from Old Vailia.
You have arrived in village of Dyrford with four of your trusted companions.
Wha-? Companions is hard to believe by itself. TRUSTED companions just does not compute.
So, my STAM and HLTH are 74, my Acc is 42 and my DT is 9. I don't know what any of these mean.
I like how the game counts time spent in character creation as 'in party' (you can also hear ambient sounds from this location when creating a character).
Well, I do look pretty badass, which is what counts the most, I guess.
Born as child of Bhaal, The Codex is obviously a death-godlike. Makes sense, right?
And you are...?
Heh, Greetings.
Do not mind them, they are just placeholders, without any personality.
Okay...
Greetings.
Are their stats any good?
I have no idea.
The pleasure is mine.
Why do all these guy have more Stam&Hlth than me?
Seriously, even the wizard.
Hello.
In this update we will be playing on Path of the Damned difficulty. Unfortunately, because of general bugginess of the beta at the moment, I was not able to keep playing at this level, so future updates (if there are any) will be on Normal.
I guess I'll talk to Medreth, then.
I must have missed that, but I don't even know how I got here, so...
Should I know who Crucible Knights are?
Just roll with it.
'k
Gotta go.
Aha, new quest! I mean, task.
What's the difference?
Uhm... Quests give more XP...?
Quest log notes all the additional info (like what we got from the Int check), which is pretty neat.
We start our adventure by robbing the temple.
I approve.
Scroll of Protection we picked up changed its name to Fireball in our inventory, although it sill works like protection, it seems.
That's a pretty crucial difference.
Going to theedge of the map one of the pre-determined map exit points shows us we have access to one additional area, but we will not be going there just yet.
I don't remember meeting anyone on the road, or even being on the road, for that matter.
New quest - yes, a quest!
Robbing random houses. TAB lets us highlight interest points.
Alt-tabbing has accidentally put our party into scouting mode (which is a combo of stealth and search, I think) and we found a hidden object (purple shape in the grain).
Velune is one of (too) many crafting materials in the game.
I wonder if the missing girl is connected with lack of healthy births...
Character portraits are PNG files. I do not know if the game supports other formats, but the transparent background I set in The Codex' portrait is actually transparent in the game, which is a nice effect.
[Clever - Minor] WTF is this shit?
I keep turning these hints off in the options, but they reappear all the time.
This seems like a rather obvious case. Maybe TOO obvious.
Broken tower, check.
Bye then.
I guess I will have to ask that Trygil guy.
I never realized pigs knew so much about programming.
To be honest, I am eager to do that too.
Not all at once! I can't understand what you're saying!
FFS, woman what happened to you?
Ouch.
Fragile, got it.
Tell me more.
She sells mostly crafting stuff, but also (seriously overpriced) potions.
Retrieving dragon eggs... Where have I...? Ah, whatever.
'Dracogen' name sounds like it would suit a corporation from Shadowrun more than an inn in generic fantasy village #14.
Not a bad looking place but I just can't get used to people not having circles around their feet...
This must be my next employer.
Subtle.
Wait, do I want to hire an adventurer?
You do.
We welcome Lady Meatshield to our party.
Nice face.
Thank you, and hello.
Ah, she speaks?
Of course I speak. And who are you and your friends?
My who? Oh, these people? They just keep following me for some reason.
Hello.
I'm The Codex, by the way.
I'm... Lady... Meatshield?
Interesting name.
Yes, I don't really...
Whatever. Let's move on.
Well, this guy's not exactly a mine of information.
You should look at this from his perspective...
I wasn't talking to you... Forget it.
Oh, shall we talk to the bard?
No.
Hollowborn, you say...? As in, people without souls?
...
...
...
...
What a dump of a place.
Is it wise to insult the innkeeper?
Oh, don't worry, he only hears the stuff I tell him in dialogue options.
Dialogue options?
Oh, come on! Why have you given me an NPC who does not see through the fourth wall?
Who are you talking to?
AAAARGH!
There's a lot of history in this place.
I think he's approaching 'tear this place down' stage.
A desperate parent is capable of terrible deeds.
I have no idea what you are talking about, and I don't care.
Maybe if your heavily armed men took care of the ogre threatening the village, they would look more graciously upon you? Have you thought of that?
It would not hurt, I presume.
Have you noticed that missing girls are always beautiful?
Not always. It's just nobody bothers to search for all the others.
Too many information! I shouldn't have asked.
Just a thought: what if Aelys did not want to get married in Eina's Rest?
Are you suggesting she escaped?
Let's not exclude anything for now.
I regret asking once again.
And we got some XP for this update. Sweet!
What's expy?
You'll know in a moment.
I feel like talking do Lord Harond has enriched me somehow.
That's XP for you. Let's go upstairs.
Locked. You there, thief-girl, open it.
The pleasure is mine.
Should we be taking other people's stuff?
It's an obligation of every hero to gain advantage in every way possible, especially when nobody can see it.
Money and a crappy weapon, so actually money and money.
How will we know who is telling the truth?
I have learned that if one solution has more violence in it, then you're probably helping the bad guy.
I hope we did the right thing.
Yeah, me too. They looked like they had some nice stuff to loot.
Seems like we're not done yet.
Wow, he actually bought it.
You seem pretty skilled at lies...
The Codex never lies. Sometimes the true is just very hard to believe.
Seems like we're done with this.
That tingling sensation again...
You'll get used to it soon.
I feel like listening to your li- ah, deception, has improved my sneaking ability.
Good.
Let's check out this ruined tower.
Nice find, bro.
My thanks.
Hmm...
Why would they hide a key like that?
Good question.
Uh, tanneries. I hate tanneries.
History is not really my thing.
Write that down, will you?
I have a good memory.
'I haven't seen nuthin'. Right.
Now we know where to go.
My experience tells me that tanneries are good places to hide dark secrets in, because nobody ever wants to inspect them. Because of the stench.
Looks legit... OH WAIT THERE'S A TRAPDOOR HERE. HOW SURPRISING.
You may have been right about the dark secret.
I hope it's not as bad as the last one.
My sixth sense tells me this dungeon has something to do with the missing noble girl.
Skaenbone...? More crafting shit.
Blood!
Of all the people in the party, it was the rogue who was noticed by murderous giant beetles. How ironic.
Mistakes were made.
Cool that you managed to teleport away, but I think you're still fucked due to poison.
I give up.
Lok'tar ogar!
Sure, whatever.
What? Stamina recovery does not work on unconscious people?
My apologies.
Well played.
Damn it!
Your monk-girl fainted. Too much excitement for a first date, I guess.
Where the fuck have you been?
You two seemed to be getting along, I did not want to disturb you.
Why did you give her such a fugly face?
It is the only Aumaua portrait available at the moment.
Not quite what was planned.
FUCK!
Maybe you should try mind controlling another beetle? Your PSY points have recovered.
What? Oh, they did!
Get them Blue Beetle!
My magic will tear you apart!
Fuck yes!
Oh shit, it went hostile again!
By the Light!
Alright, we made it!

Next time: Let me know if you want any more of these special PoE updates, or if you consider the idea terrible. I can do one more, a few more, go through all the beta content, or forget about the thing entirely. Your call. However, if you choose to see more, they will probably only appear after the next patch, because our party got wiped the seventeen times I tried to get through next encounter.
Also, the beetles dropped nothing.
