Day 7 overview Part 2

Currently, the advantage of this party is that we've found quite a bit of treasure and we're also finding items to improve the party(mostly defensive items). The magic weapons we've found have been decent, but nothing yet that is powerful. This game relies a lot on the random generator, unlike Eternal Dagger where there are specific locations that you can buy weapons or dungeons(Alvis' Tower) that net you really good gear.

The Codexers found two powerful magical damage weapons. One is a magic damage battleaxe, and the other is a life draining morningstar. Both have significant weapon skill improvements, so I'll be upgrading the battleaxe since the character that learned that skill is about to improve strength. Due to the 16 strength requirement of the morningstar, that character will use the +4 scale armor we found earlier. My next video update besides the day 10 one that I'll be editing will be on game day 20.

I recorded at game day 29. Things are still proceeding at a good if slow pace. I'm starting to get my party ready for its first night fight around game day 50 or so. Due to Ward Pact Demons at the later stage of this game, it's not safe to have a party using too much of one damage type. We're starting to run out of defensive items to enchant due to the amount of treasure the group is finding thanks to maximized Search for both characters that have it. The good/bad news is that I have four sets of magical scale armor in the inn, but each set needs 15 strength to use.

Once I start doing the night time fights, I'll likely change the updates to every 15-20 game days. You lose two days by doing a night fight, but you don't have to worry about rebooting the emulator often since encounters generally happen every few steps. I should be able to complete the first dungeon, but they are linked and I would prefer to at least do the first two dungeons once I have the swimming skill up to 150. Swimming, Haggle, and Read Ancient are skills that won't be present in Eternal Dagger.

I'm stuck at trying to troubleshoot the video recorder program. It's now snipping off commentary, and I don't know when this will get fixed. I'll check another program that I've been testing to see if it has the same issues.

EDIT - Looks like the other program works fine. If my secondary video recorder program works for other games, I'll use the third one to continue recording for the videos.

Day 41 overview with a new game recorder program taking over. Advancement for the characters is taking longer than I expected, but I'm erring on the side of caution in regards to when I'll begin the night time fights and do the dungeons.

P.S. - This is the 20% completion mark in terms of game days before we have to retrieve the Crown from that massive marathon dungeon.

I've reached the point where the game is forcing me to do night fights. I do believe the game flags your characters at specific points once they reach certain stats and/or skills. The two game day updates contain my thoughts about our party's development, and my plans for future updates. I am planning to do a fully documented night time fight just to show people what the game forces you to eventually do. If anybody ever goes thru this game, my advice would be to keep an eye on how many trips it takes to get the 10 experience boost from the inn. If you take more than seven fights and you don't get the experience boost, I'd plan to pursue night fights as soon as possible.

I underestimated how long it takes to finish night time fights. I must have done 5-6 hours or more, and I'm not at dawn yet in the game. The good news is that this will be the only time that I'll post such a LONG session and it will obviously be broken into many parts. That will likely be the only updates besides the MM8 intro video to my channel.

This is an excellent thread. Looking forward to more videos.

CGW 1986 said:
My one quarrel with this game is that the emphasis
is very heavy on hack and slash. The puzzles,
such as they are, are pretty trivial. There is no
interaction to speak of between the party and anyone
else. In town, you either buy or sell, both of
which are mechanical actions; outdoors, everything
you come across is hostile and must be killed. It
does tend to get a little dull after awhile. Still, the
game has many interesting features of its own, and
should not be overlooked on that account.

Looks like they were looking for C&C and puzzles as early as 1986 for RPGs...

As Scorpia pointed out, there are puzzles. The invisible maze on level 3 and the magical doors on level 4 of Tarmon's Palace can be a bit tricky or frustrating. The main 'puzzles' are figuring out where secret areas may be in the dungeons.

I went to the temple in the ruins to rest until dawn. I spent two hours at the temple to not hit the 250 experience point limit for one character. Morale loss when returning was ~ 50 or so, and our group went to the tavern to eliminate the effects of morale loss. I'll be spending some time improving the characters, but for the most part that experience will be spent improving attributes and not skills. The recording program has about ten recordings of varying length. I'll cobble together the entire experience, but I'll be splitting the whole night fight session over multiple weeks. The next game update will occur at game day 75.

I went thru all the captured recordings, and I'll be splitting the night fight over multiple weeks. It took over 60 videos with a time commitment over 8 hours to reach dawn. But our group got a lot of experience so even with morale loss of 50, the experience was survivable.

I added parts 16-30 of the Wizard's Crown night fight to my channel today. I did spend most of the experience I gained from the whole session, but I still have a few characters to improve. With my next update after the night fight videos scheduled for day 75, don't be surprised if there is a lag between updates after I finish uploading all the night fight videos.

Instead of posting individual links, browse thru the channel to see what videos you want.

Parts 31-45 of the first night fight have been posted to my channel. I did another night fight yesterday for good experience, with my progress up to game day 62. People posting comments have asked if our group is good enough yet to make the big push to the end. Unfortunately, the game is dependent on skills so I don't quite have everyone ready to trek into the dungeons. Half of the party now has fully enchanted armor of some type. I sold a few very fine weapons in the Inn since sharp or very sharp weapons have better damage bonuses.

Check out more old school tactical combat action! Yes, this is the OLD stuff.

Today's updates to my YouTube channel end the chronicles until the next scheduled overview on game day 75. With the way my party is progressing, I believe I have a chance to finally do the first three dungeons around day 75. The first two should be pretty easy, but that third one is going to be tough with all those Golems waiting to turn us into goo.

I almost forgot to mention that with more night fights, our group now has full body armor enchantment for six out of the eight members.
