The Third Age 3.2 is a lord Of The Rings mod for Medieval Total war 2 Kingdoms Expansion.
With MOS submod, garrison script off.
Playing as Gundabad as they have trolls.

?

Middleearthmap_zps0d707d60.jpg

Gundabad's starting position is to the north.
Our starting enemies will be Dwarves to the far west at Ered Luin and Erebor to the far east.
Our starting ally will be the Orcs Of The Misty Mountain(OOTMM) in the mountain range south of Gundabad with Moria as their biggest settlement.
Eriador with Humans and Hobbits lie to our southwest. Bree is their Capital and Aragorn their leader.
The Grey Havens is to the far southwest past Eriador. It is controlled by the High Elves with Erlond as their ruler who resides in Rivendell east of Eriador.

2012-10-10_00004_zps48ef52da.jpg

Gundabad starts with 4 settlements. Carn Dum used to be the capital of Angmar. It is the only settlement that can produce high tier troops for a long time.

2012-10-10_00007_zps25603a21.jpg

Mod comes with flavour movies from Peter Jackson's movies. They also use pictures of the actors in the movies for portraits.

2012-10-10_00008_zps383dd3ab.jpg

We can't recruit trolls for a while but we get 1 unit of trolls at the start.
Carn Dum has this build order: barracks>wargs>siege>archers>trolls. Top tier troop buildings are unlocked after a certain time.

2012-10-10_00009_zpsb923aba8.jpg

Start off by taking over Framsburg, an unguarded rebel castle to the east.

2012-10-11_00002_zps16d06c86.jpg

Our main army march south grabbing an unguarded Amon Sul(Weathertop) and a village called Coldfells to our south.

2012-10-11_00004_zps9539cf08.jpg

Towns of our allies OOTMM can be seen to the east as we attack Imladris (Rivendell).
Taking out Rivendell at the start will help OOTMM tremendously.

2012-10-11_00005_zps5e026d4c.jpg

1365 Orcs vs 338 Elves and the odds are still even.
Orcs are terrible troops but are numerous and cheap.

2012-10-11_00006A_zpsef848451.jpg

Rivendell is a custom made map, no towers for the defenders but movement is restricted to a narrow path where I cannot surround the elves with my superior numbers.

2012-10-11_00007A_zpsab5d146e.jpg

I was hoping to lure the Elves out to a kill zone but their archers outrange us and I chose to charge them. Trolls lead the way as they are the fastest troops I have. They pin the archers down as the rest of my melee troops engage them.
Don't just stand there! Start trolling!

2012-10-11_00008A_zps08391047.jpg

Erlond lead most of his troops out to help his archers and we managed to surround and kill him but it cost me all of my trolls. :(

2012-10-11_00011A_zpsf47a2436.jpg

The Elves are left with a unit of elite spearmen that are impervious to our arrows. Our archers have a missile attack rating of 1! The arrows just bounce off their armour.
We lured them out of the city square and tried to capture the square but they just ran back in killing anything in their way.

2012-10-11_00012A_zpsfca5e161.jpg

Rivendell was taken but at the cost of 950 Orcs for 330 Elves. After the battle, the only full strength unit we can muster are archers. The heir to the throne was killed as well.

2012-10-11_00013_zpsb39381da.jpg

Marching west from Rivendell, King Gorduf hired some mercenaries and took the rebel-held-Hoarwell. This is the area where Bilbo encountered the trolls discussing how to cook Dwarves.

2012-10-11_00020A_zps61f07ae1.jpg

The assault on Hoarwell took place at night. My usual tactic is to attack the city square from different directions.
Peace was made between the High Elves and Gundabad, so we only have the Dwarves as enemies for now.
We continue to take the surrounding rebel settlements.

2012-10-11_00022A_zps0abe720c.jpg

This is the assault of Tharbad, its walls are high and manned by many men.
As can be seen in the map at the top-right, I build rams and ladders and attack from 4 directions.
The confused defenders could not assign troops to man all four walls and fell back to the city center.

2012-10-11_00023_zps44182797.jpg

South of Tharbad are the Dunlandings (allies of Isengard) and you can also see Moria to the East.

2012-10-12_00002_zpsf7fe90fb.jpg

We have created an army to the east to help defend OOTMM's Dain's Halls (Grey Mountains). Marching east, we took the nearby town of Wrakyaburg. The neutral Silvan Elves ruled by King Thranduil are to our Southeast.

2012-10-12_00003_zpsfa5b8bed.jpg

Another army was created and they march west.
We found a rebel village, a small army of murderous Dwarves and Gandalf The Grey of Eriabor.
Gandalf sneak attacked one of our units and war was declared between Gundabad and Eriabor.
Our unit fled from Gandalf to the safety of my western stack.

2012-10-12_00007_zps43b9f19a.jpg

Ignoring Gandalf who is too fast and strong to kill with my western stack, we took the village of Pitkaranta and attacked the Dwarves invading our teritory.

2012-10-12_00010A_zps88bf0993.jpg

We sent our only archer unit behind the Dwarves as they marched towards us. Even when fired from behind, each volley of arrows only kill 1 Dwarf! I ordered the archers to get within 20 meters of the heavily armoured Dwarves and got better results.
The Dwarves ignored our archers, I doubt they can catch us.

2012-10-12_00011A_zps5c041c00.jpg

The two armies clashed and with our superior numbers surrounded and slaughtered the Dwarves.

2012-10-12_00013_zps726f9149.jpg

The spy we sent scouting in the east found the eastern Dwarves and their king. Erebor is too strong for our eastern army to take, we should hang around ambushing marauding dwarves instead.

2012-10-12_00014_zps68820001.jpg

To the southwest, Dear Leader Gorduf is in a stand off with Eriador stacks at Amon Sul and Hoarwell.

2012-10-12_00015A_zps8b8da940.jpg

The occasional wandering Eriador unit gets caught by our Ever Victorious Army.
Silly little Hobbits wandering in Orc territory!
But killing little Hobbits cause the High Elves (allies of Eriador) to declare war on us! It also made our allies OOTMM join the war against Eriador.

End of part 1.

2012-10-12x_zps576a6d7f.jpg

Snaga Stalkers make up the main bulk of our armies. With an attack of 2 they are terrible against heavily armoured opponents, some of them have 20 to 30 defence! To kill such foes it is best to use armour-piercing troops but they are currently only available in Carn Dum.
Rivendell and Amon Sul can produce them but they suffer a recruitment rate penalites due to terrain. Orcs prefer mountains.
Wargs are good against high defense troops but they are costly and are slow to recruit.

Current Status:
3 stacks, 1 in the west, east and southwest.
At war with Dwarves, Eriador and High Elves.

Military strength:
Orcs Of Gundabad: 50,000
Dwarves: 70,000
High Elves: 40,000
Eriador: 40,000

He did kill Elrond already, so I guess that's not really necessary anymore.
Are all orcs so extremely shitty?

Not all it will be awhile untill he get the Orc troops. Currently he just has the shitty Snaga troops. Also the Trolls are among the "best" units in the game.

Part 2:

At the Eastern Front...

A2012-10-12_00022.jpg

My early batch of heavy infantry and wargs were sent to the east to fight off an expected Dwarvern invasion; Which never occured.
So I went for a small Dwarvern village instead.

A2012-10-12_00023.jpg

The defence of which is lead by Balin.

A2012-10-12_00024.jpg

It's Balin! And they only have infantry.... I have 1 archer unit.

A2012-10-12_00025.jpg

After expanding all my arrows we surrounded and butchered them.

A2012-10-12_00026.jpg

Orc rush!
The village was sacked, the only building it has destroyed and we abandoned the village to the Dwarves as we do not have enough troops to hold it.

A2012-10-13_00032.jpg

A small army of Silvan Elves started moving into my Eastern Territories. The Eastern stack hurried back west in case of an Elven sneak attack.

Meanwhile at the Western Front...

2012-10-12_00018.jpg

The spy sent to the Western Dwarves report that the Dwarves control 4 settlements and have a modest army. A small army can hold them off while we concentrate on Eriador.

2012-10-13_00007.jpg

I started recruiting as many troops as possible so much so that my army upkeep is higher than my income.
Reinforced by heavy infantry, Dear Leader Gorduf besieged Bree, capital of Eriador.

2012-10-13_00008.jpg

Bree is defended by Halbarad, do you remember him in the books?

2012-10-13_00009.jpg

Eriador reinforcements appear from the edge of the map.

2012-10-13_00010.jpg

They are rushing to the city to bolster its defence!

2012-10-13_00012.jpg

We rush to intercept the reinforcement before they can reach the city. Mercenary cavalry reach them first!

2012-10-13_00014.jpg

We managed to kill most of the reinforcement. Hurray for horses!

2012-10-13_00015.jpg

The assault on Bree begins! 4 battling rams go for each gate at he same time.
The defenders at 2 gates sally out to intercept the rams!
They should have stayed behind the gates.
Silly humans!

2012-10-13_00019.jpg

The weak humans can't handle an assault from 4 directions at once and quickly fall back to the city center. Our brave orcs follow them.

2012-10-13_00021.jpg

A Glorious victory!

2012-10-13_00023.jpg

Bree is taken! The Prancing Pony is ours!
What shall we do with Barliman Butterbur?
We shall roast him! Melt all the butter out of him!

2012-10-13_00031.jpg

We negotiated a cease fire for gold.
It's under 9000!!!

2012-10-13_00034.jpg

A strong stack of High Elves were spotted in the Shire. It is lead by Cirdan.
He is a Telerin Elf according to Wikipedia. lololz wut is Telerin?
Also he has a beard, pretty rare for an Elf.
If he attacks us, things will be disastrous.

2012-10-13_00036.jpg

Our western stack guarding against the Western Dwarves head south and siege the Eriador village of Athilin.
Yes we broke the ceasefire after 2 turns.
lololz
We only wanted the gold!

2012-10-13_00038.jpg

Guess who we found there?
It's Gandalf!

2012-10-13_00039.jpg

Hello Gandalf!

2012-10-13_00043.jpg

Gandalf gets shot by our ballistas. He actually survived a shot!
That's impossible!

2012-10-13_00044.jpg

But he didn't survive the next shot. :D
The village is ours!

2012-10-13_00045.jpg

Turn 37, we got the barracks event which lets us build the bestest barracks and best of all... trolls!

2012-10-13_00046.jpg

Our Dear Leader then siege the town of Annuminas.
Hey it's Aragorn!
Dear leader has 666 men! That's an auspicious number!

2012-10-13_00047.jpg

Hello Aragorn!
Aragorn has a nice horse-archer bodyguard called The Grey Company.

2012-10-13_00048.jpg

Who are no match for our halberds!

2012-10-13_00049.jpg

We received good tidings from the Eastern Front!
Was he killed by Rhun aka Easterlings?

2012-10-13_00050.jpg

We also received news that we already know...

2012-10-13_00053.jpg

At turn 40 we get most important news!

End of part 2.

Part 3:

2012-10-13_00056.jpg

We found the new King of Eriador, Araphor son of Aragorn hiding in Fornost Erain.
He doesn't look like his father.

2012-10-14_00002.jpg

The attack took place at night where I use my favourite "shoot arrows through holes in walls" tactic to thin the defenders.

2012-10-14_00004.jpg

The newly-crowned King has died and with no successor, Eriador is destroyed!
The remaining towns turn into rebels.

2012-10-14_00006.jpg

We quickly snatch up the towns, some of them are defended like Michel Delving of the Shire.

2012-10-14_00009.jpg

Silly Hobbits with their silly walls can't stop orc rams!

2012-10-14_00010.jpg

The Shire is ours! Hurray!

2012-10-14_00011.jpg

Here come the Elves heading to the Barrow-Downs.
Their army is lead by Elrohir, the younger son of Erlond.

2012-10-14_00012.jpg

The elder son King Ellandan is found in a small lightly defended village.

2012-10-14_00014.jpg

Turn 45.
We received news that Erebor, the capital of the Dwarves has fallen.

2012-10-14_00015.jpg

My spy reports that it has rebeled and is now garrisoned by orcs... how odd.

2012-10-14_00016.jpg

At the Eastern Front, the Silvan Elves sneak attacked my faction heir while he is traveling alone.

2012-10-14_00017.jpg

Hiding in the corner of the map didn't save him.
Oh well we have an unlimited number of heirs. Orcs don't have a dynasty and new leaders are chosen from generals.

2012-10-14_00018.jpg

The 2nd boss must be avenged!

2012-10-14_00019.jpg

The Silvan Elf army is pretty good, it even has a ballista like us!

2012-10-14_00020.jpg

Even so, the Elves still lose to our heavy infantry and wargs!

2012-10-14_00021.jpg

They actually pay up.
More money to spend on trolls!

2012-10-14_00022.jpg

Back to the High Elves.
Time for their King to die.

2012-10-14_00023.jpg

Hello Ellendan!

2012-10-14_00024.jpg

Charge! Kill Elves!

2012-10-14_00025.jpg

1 Elf Lord vs 900 orcs.
This will make a good painting.

2012-10-14_00026.jpg

The Elven town of Elostirion has a Palantiri.

2012-10-14_00027.jpg

Turn 48, The Dark Lord Returns!

2012-10-14_00028.jpg

At the same time we receive bad news from OOTMM, Moria has fallen to the Elves of Lorien.
They also declared war against us for some reason.

2012-10-14_00031.jpg

Sauron is like The Pope, he can call for an invasion.

2012-10-14_00032.jpg

Turn 49, the Dwarves lost their second capital... I think they have loyalty problems ever since their king died.

2012-10-14_00035.jpg

The next High Elven King decided to guard the border with only his bodyguard for protection. :/

2012-10-14_00036.jpg

He dies like his father and brother.

2012-10-14_00037.jpg

There are still members of the royalty around. This is the faction heir, looks like he married Arwen.

Part 4.

2012-10-14_00038.jpg

At the Eastern Front, Silvan Elves continue to invade but are repelled.

2012-10-14_00039.jpg

To the south, we sieged the High Elven village of Barrow Downs.
This is the largest H. Elf army, a critical battle!

2012-10-14_00040.jpg

Orcs fight better at night.

2012-10-14_00041.jpg

The village does not have walls, an advantage to us.
We lure the elves out with range weapons and set up a 'V' kill zone.

2012-10-14_00043.jpg

They spent their infantry and are left with archers in the village. Our infantry march in!

2012-10-14_00044.jpg

We won, had this been a field battle we might have lost.

2012-10-14_00047.jpg

Dear Leader marches southwest to Mithlond.

2012-10-14_00048.jpg

Elves resist our advance.

2012-10-14_00049.jpg

But could not stop us from reaching their capital.

2012-10-15_00003.jpg

Orc halberds poke!

2012-10-15_00006.jpg

Hurray!

2012-10-21_00002.jpg

News from Mordor, Denethor is dead!

2012-10-21_00003.jpg

Silly little Hobbits!
No!

2012-10-23_00001.jpg

To the west a small Dwarven army invade us.

2012-10-23_00002.jpg

Wargs kill Dwarves, they have a mighty charge and large numbers.

2012-10-23_00004.jpg

Our trolls finally got to see some action.

2012-10-23_00005.jpg

Troll charge!

2012-10-25_00002.jpg

News from Mordor.

2012-10-27_00004.jpg

We found the Elf prince hiding in Forlond.

2012-10-27_00001.jpg

He cowers behind his walls.

2012-10-27_00002.jpg

Our troops surge towards the breach in the walls.

2012-10-27_00003.jpg

Lots of orcs! The Elves are doomed.

2012-10-27_00005.jpg

Finally we found Cirdan who is now the king.

2012-10-27_00006.jpg

We use ballista to bombard him.

2012-10-27_00008.jpg

The High Elves lost their royal family!

With the territory of 3 factions I am unstoppable.
Here ends this LP at turn 55, a very fast and short rush.

Attacking a LP for completing on the first page?
4 updates with over 100 images. Only a few replies.
I hold the largest territory and good factions are no longer a challenge, thus no reason to continue. Dwarves and the remaining 2 Elven factions have small territory (I think I have more than all 3 combined). Rohan and Gondor are losing the war to Isengard and Mordor. The only faction that is a threat to me is Mordor, even Gondor is weaker than me.
Most of my TA campaigns end after I destroy 2 factions (though they usually take longer).
What will you have me do? Continue when there is no challenge? If you are familiar with TW games, with the size of my territory, the time taken per turn and the stretch of reinforcements is getting really long.
This is an campaign with no fixed ending, ending the LP/campaign at this time is reasonable. Will you want to read me steamrolling over the remaining factions?

I can't believe I'm defending ending a LP.

Anyway, a bit anti-climatic ending. Esp. with the retarded AI scouting with faction heirs.
I've seen Erlond guarding their border alone in other campaigns.
The rebelling is a bigger problem, the Dwarves lost their 2 best cities to rebels. Had they still have them I might have continued.
The worst I have seen is Minas Tirith rebelling within the first 5 turns of the campaign making it game over for Gondor from the start.

The Warhammer mod is pretty neat. You get some huge battles (three full stacks of elite Chaos warriors is nothing to laugh at) in it with very nice (and realistically large) custom maps/cities.

Been thinking of that actually.
Using the fog of war cheat:
At turn 55.

2012-11-05_00001.jpg

tip: Use the minimap to the lower left.
Gondor lost Minas Tirith to Mordor and one other province to Harad.

It also lost most of its military strength recently.

2012-11-05_00002.jpg

Rohan is losing to Isengard and Mordor.
The Dunlendings have been doing nothing but hiding in their towns since the start.

2012-11-05_00003.jpg

Western Dwarves have 4 settlements and 1 is being beseiged by me. My Dwarf defense force got bored and started attacking,

2012-11-05_00004.jpg

Elves of Lorien have 7 provinces and they have OOTMM on the defensive.
Elves conquering Moria is good for me as I can take it and use it to produce troops in the center of the map.
They might be in a pickle as a large army from Mordor is marching from the east towards Dol Guldur to their east.

2012-11-05_00006.jpg

Surprisingly the Eastern Dwarves took back their 3 settlements from rebels. It was only a few turns ago that I withdraw my spy to spy on the Silvan Elves.

2012-11-05_00005.jpg

Silvan Elves have 4 or 5 territories and a puny army. My Eastern Defense stack have been capturing and ransoming them for thousands of gold for a while.
With the fog lifted I see I could invade them with my eastern defense force.

2012-11-05_00007.jpg

Their neighbour, Dale is losing the good fight to Rhun.

If I take over the vacant High Elven lands I get over 30+/- settlements and match the Dwarves, both Silvan and Lorien Elves, Dale and Rohan combined. (But most of my settlements are smaller and not suitable for producing orcs.)
Which is why I stop playing.
Also the new 1.4 MOS submod with fixes is announced and soon to be released.

Base on my experience, Evil is stronger in the east thus Gondor and Rohan usually loses. The Orcs of Gundabad and Misty Mountain however usually lose as they are surrounded.

This inspired me to download and play my own game. I am doing the dwarves. You are correct about the middle/end game dragging on forever. I am slowly pushing my way into the lands of Mordor, but it is really hard with a 12 turn supply chain.

It looks to me like Gondor would have the hardest battle with both the Southerners and Mordor to fight. In my game the Southerners are, and have been, the strongest faction on the board for a while. The northern cities are pretty pathetic, size wise. Of course that may be a side effect of being Dwarven; I don't know.

Not really. Harad units are generally lighter than that of Gondor, so even with slightly less numbers you would still have a decent chance of victory in battle. You really only had to be wary of the pirate fleets (don't leave the coast undefended) and mumaks (if they had them). Also, you can bottle up Mordor to the east bank of Anduin as long as you take Cair Andros and hold on to West Osgilliath. Just concentrate on one or the other (preferably Harad first), then all will be set.

Nice LP, but it reminds me why there is no point to playing any of the TW games - the AI in them is completely pointless and the only way to lose is to actively try (and still it would probably take a while).
