Here. I was hoping to get right into Meduna in this one but the AI won't just be waiting there for the mercs to attack.

With the most valuable stuff they could carry from Orta taken, the Kodex Kool Krew makes their way towards an area that is free from enemy SAM coverage where Skyrider will pick them up.

Meanwhile, a large quantity of enemies is closing to the west of Estoni. Better to be ready for anything.

Skyrider arrived at the sector first and spotted threats below. The team knew they would have to fight a battle to get out. What they didn't know was that they lacked enough luck and skills this time to avoid an ambush. This is not good.

Orgasm rapidly reacts against the bloodcat that attempt to sneak onto the team, slicing and shooting it. After that no more bloodcats show up for a while. Black and Orgasm, being true Rangers, go for the hunt.

With everything set, there was one more issue left: Gaskett and Shank lack any real combat skills. Some extra mercenaries would be needed for the coming offensive: one explosive specialist and someone who thinks he need a gun, a big gun, a really BIG gun. Fidel is chosen as the EXTREME specialist of the second team, and being a psychopath, demolitions and auto weapons expert, he fits in perfectly..

Where Lithuanian mercenaries prefer a more discreet approach using silenced weapons, creative ways of killing people, stealth and disguises to achieve their objectives, the Estonian ones aren't really that much into the same subtlety of Lithuanian hitmen. Instead, Estonian mercenaries such as Janno Allik prefer really big guns like RPGs, grenade launchers and the most favorite of all Estonian Mercenaries: the Commando Mortar, which "Brain" will get as soon as he arrives. And of course, this Estonian has as much Brains as he has Brawns, and obviously is another worthy disciple of the Way of the EXTREME SHEPARD.

Meanwhile, along medical treatment and repairs, the teams stationed at Estoni decide to not take any chances. Everyone takes positions inside the junkyard, just in case.

After all, those forces to the west were there for one reason: They probably already realized Estoni is being used as a staging area for an assault on Meduna, and decided to strike first. With twelve mercenaries ready and well positioned, this shouldn't be much difficult unless really bad luck happens.

Ulminati once again proves a 7x scope is better than a 10x one. And he can fire twice per turn now instead of only once, to make things better.

A large number of enemies gather near the old gas station to the south, taking cover behind the long derelict gas pumps there.

Maybe there was still some gas left after all, just too little for anyone to care about other than these redshirts once Barry blew them up with a grenade. After this explosion, along easy pickings, Dynamo decides to have some fun with the mustard gas grenades in his OICW rifle and grenade launcher too, and with such EXTREME use of chemical weapons, there was not much resistance left.

Once again, mission accomplished.

Carefully checking if there will be enough left to pay the daily militia wages and kingconrad, finally Bobby Ray's had something Ulminati have been waiting for a long time: a sniper rifle suppressor! No more letting only the others shoot for the sake of stealth. This item was the reason he didn't pick up those incredible 12.5mm caliber anti-materiel rifles, he prefers something less noisy. The camo helmet cover was bought mostly to fill up the minimum 2 kg package weight. Of course those covers will be useful to difficult detection of the team as they advance through the woodland and swamps near Meduna.

Bee would also have loved a sniper suppressor, if she was still alive.

Some enemy forces are spotted just south of Estoni. To clear the road, the Kodex Kool Krew is sent to wipe them out. And by the way, they were going through the most direct path with Skyrider's aid, except a bug forced me to put them one sector south of the enemy position and attack them from there instead.

Upon arrival, it seems that Deirdranna's grunts are being attacked by Bloodcats. A good distraction that will help wiping them out. Black and Orgasm move ahead, with Stephen right behind them, being a Night Ops specialist.

It doesn't take long for Black to spot and kill the first redshirt. They better stay alert.

Orgasm saves Black from a potentially disastrous enemy surprise attack. The team is slowly and quietly advancing along the way.

Two enemies are spotted. Orgasm looks at them and rapidly reacts:

This will definitively draw the attention of the others, better to be even more careful from now on.

That was so close, so close. The only reason Black probably survived a sniper shot is that his body armor and helmet were both reinforced with the crepitus queen jelly. He made it out of the light barely in time to avoid taking another shot, and asked for Ulminati to hand him a health regen. Unfortunately he couldn't risk getting his rifle dropped after the shot back.

Even wounded, Black still saves the day preventing what began turning out badly from becoming a total disaster with even more dead mercenaries. MD rapidly runs to support them on covering that spot as well.

And the doctor definitively did a nice job in preventing more harm against Black.

Then suddenly! SNAFU! Another break light right at the position of Black, Ulminati and MD!

Barry rapidly moves towards the direction the break light came from, killing an elite soldier and saving their asses.

They rapidly moved out of the light, and fortunately made it through alive. Eventually, no more enemies were detected, and Black and Orgasm were thus called for the hunt.

Surprising the rest of the team, an enemy fires his mini-rockets on Stephen, who somehow survived being hit by such a deadly weapon as an auto rocket rifle.

Ulminati quickly puts him down. This was a quite tense battle with more than one near death moment.

And now finally the road is clear for the other team to get the Humvee through once they are assembled with the new arrivals, and hopefully that sniper suppressor will arrive soon too.

From the battle a very useful item is found. Without it all those remote detonators were useless. Now they will be very useful. Another very useful thing was another rifle laser aiming module. Powerful enough to reach up to 300 meters, this laser sight is a great complement for 7x scopes.

Unfortunately, since that dread incident in the Alma mines, with the loss of so many who were expecting the reward after the job was done rather than before, the budget has been running so thin that Stephen will have to go. He seems both disappointed and relieved he won't be part of the dangerous final battle in this war. His leadership skills were useful but non-essential. With Fidel and Brains, there is enough for two teams anyway that will not feature the two guys who just aren't in any way fit for front-line duty..

That was a bit too late. Checking up on these two new mercs the cheap M.E.R.C. now features, it can be said without doubt that finally Gaskett isn't the only member of that "competitor" of A.I.M. that is worth hiring. The two new mercenaries there are far more expensive, but still cheaper than AIM grade ones, having their daily wages at 600 and 700 respectively.

Of course now there is no more time to delay the offensive. If casualties happen, once the Meduna SAM site is taken down they will definitively be on the list as the first replacements for them. Also, finally the sniper suppressor and helmet camo arrived.

Dmitri, who will join the second team, travels to Drassen to get the shipment, giving the "coffee money" to ensure nothing will go missing from it. Getting everything useful from Drassen, he finally arrives at Estoni where the final preparations are almost over.

Finally, the two teams will begin to head towards Meduna. One by vehicle, and the other, until getting to the point where it is no longer safe, by copter. Hopefully the Estonian EXTREME SHEPARD will have enough BIG GUNS to clear the way against whatever awaits them on the road.

PS: The AICW doesn't support an AR suppressor. Now I remember why I was ignoring it. The second team won't go quietly because there are not enough suppressors for two teams so they got lots of those guns anyway. And even more grenades. They will be mostly in the "BLOW BIG SHIT" role, led by the Estonian on that, obviously.

That is it. Thread is over. Once again a LP I started ends before the actual end because of shitty bugs.

This is getting tiresome. Circumventing this bug is just too much. And I bet all sectors in Meduna will have the same shit.

It was the second time attacking a sector towards Meduna caused this kind of crash but I'll give it one final try. I even updated 1.13 to the latest version in the hopes it would fix it.

The good news is that this is back on track, and I'll get it to the end regardless of 1.13 quirks. The bad news is that I still haven't finished the next update and this is a shameless bump.

I have taken the duty of overusing that CSI meme in this update.

Shells in the Night

Before making their way towards Meduna, they were all getting fully rested. Meanwhile, The enemy once again attempts to strike at Alma. The casualties are growing, and the enemy does not stop to launch continual offensives to retake the mines at Alma and Chitzena. Time is of essence to put an end to this for once an all, but it is likely that the path to Meduna will be crawling with enemies. It won't be easy.

Shortly on the road the two teams spot a large amount of enemies. Synchronizing their arrival, they use the darkness to retain the element of surprise as long as possible.

The EXTREME Squadron, not being made of Night Ops specialists nor having silenced and suppressed weapons, instead takes defensive positions just in case. The Kodex Kool Krew will have to do this instead, at least for as long as they can keep the element of surprise. After it is lost noise will no longer be an issue.

An enemy is spotted. Between Dmitri's throwing knives, Orgasm's slashes with her katana and Barry finishing him off, he goes down quietly.

Ulminati puts down another one with his silenced SMG. Time to get further down and continue the silent killing. That is one thing the Estonian is not very good at but if he spots anyone he'll put them down quickly and loudly.

Damn it! Another break light! Every time this happens the risks of someone dying increase drastically. Better to put them down, and quick.

Maddog tosses some mustard gas at the reinforcements. It doesn't hit right at them, forcing others to finish the job. The EXTREME squadron is under attack. Some of them take hits. One mistake and they will be dead.

Meanwhile things are way too quiet for the Kodex Krew. MD and Barry had way too noisy guns and thus stood behind, covering the east just in case.

How the hell can they spot Ulminati from that far without break lights? And shit really is going badly at the other team. Dynamo and Maddog were almost killed by a grenade while the others rapidly try to hold their ground and take down whoever tossed it.

Fidel saves Maddog and Dynamo by putting down another one. Boldly, some along the team still not seriously wounded advance while Brain is readying his mortar to fire. These brave ones are risking their lives to serve as artillery spotters.

The motherfuckers are really determined to slaughter the two mercenary teams this time, probably because of how close they are to Meduna. Only 2 sectors left after this one is cleared. At least no deaths happened so far.

More trouble, however, that shots were still coming from the east. Orgasm ran towards that direction as whoever was firing couldn't be spotted.

Black and Dmitri advance ahead to clear they way while the EXTREME team is gradually securing their position., both Orgasm and Ulminati made one big mistake related to tear gas, but luckily they seem to be safe.

Then more shit happens. kingconrad is taken down and seriously wounded by some shots. A spotter runs towards the location where it happens while the EXTREME Estonian has another mortar shell ready for the night.

And it looks like Brain got more than just another Deirdranna grunt. He took down THE mercenary. It was sort of expected that sooner or later the bitch queen would choose to hire mercenaries too, and Mike is definitively one of the best.

Of course that is irrelevant whether it is a redshirt or the best of the best former AIM mercenary the one below when the shells in the night are above. Except for Georgians, who have a natural talent to take cover in the least likely places like in a shithole, from being so used to them.

Black and Dmitri are clearing the south central part of this sector. Things are starting to turn out favorably after what appeared to be one step away from the loss of an entire squad.

Something messed up inside Mike's head as he now was almost dead, and thus he said:

Looks like most of the enemies are down. Time to do a careful clean-up while the doctors busy themselves tending to the more seriously wounded.

He heard something northwest and wisely decided to shift his position after killing one more.

And just in time to take down the very last of them.

It can be claimed that the only reason nobody died in this battle was thanks to the shells in the night, and luckily one enemy had three mortar shells in good condition in his stuff for Brain to reload his favorite big gun. Now there are two more sectors before reaching Meduna itself, and sooner or later there will be tanks too to make things more difficult.

MD and Ira will need some time to get everyone back to full health. Too many medical kits were used as MD had to do some surgeries to speed up healing because the longer this takes, the more difficult it will become.

A lot of time passes while Ira and MD are busy healing the wounded mercenaries.

While things are starting to look grim in Chitzena. However, it is strategically not very important. It is Alma that must not fall, and the mines of Meduna itself aren't too far now. Sending Shank on foot all the way to Chitzena would be way too risky. Instead soon he'll reach Alma to train more militias, now that his leadership skill is high enough and thus he can be useful for something.

At last! Looks like their investigations proved the claims that Nails was killed by some creepy monstrosities from underground and they finally paid the insurance money from all the time Nails would have continued on by the existing contract. This cash surely will be useful now to prevent the mercenaries from deciding to look for a job elsewhere, thus Fidel and Brain agree to an 1-week long extension to their contracts, while the others get 1 extra day, although predictably, both Barry and MD raised their prices.

Chitzena almost fell. The locals are fearing there won't be any further reinforcements, and in truth, there won't be. It is time to put an end to this for once and all. Deirdranna forces taking over Chitzena again will be irrelevant once Deirdranna ends in a body bag.

Shank will get to Alma ASAP, however. The enemy is relentlessly attacking, aware of the threat, because the end is close.

At the same time, they are finally fully healed and ready. Hopefully they won't have to face a situation as difficult as the one they just faced in this sector before getting into Meduna itself.

Also I was hoping to get to Meduna in this update but the battles have been tougher than what I expected so far, and deserving of more detailed updates.

The battles to come will grow increasingly harder. Their enemies will become more numberful and deadly and their future will not be a future with certainty over the victory that must come. At first they will try to take down enemies silently, otherwise reinforcements will definitively arrive from other sectors.

Then things went plain wrong. Dynamo barely escaped from the mustard gas and Fidel rapidly put the one responsible for throwing it down. No more time for stealth. Reinforcements are bound to arrive sooner or later.

Yet, somehow part of the mustard gas mixes with the smoke, harming Brain, who shrugs off the pain and starts his favorite way of killing: the EXTREME way of killing, of course, give or take overkill like firing a mortar against a lone soldier.

The Kodex Kool Krew discreetly wipes out the enemies who are being drawn towards the other team. After some tough battles, the enemies stop coming.

Mission accomplished! Only one sector left before Meduna itself. Better to have those anti-tank weapons checked again, just in case.

But the wounds Brain and Ulminati took will delay the next offensive. The mechanics of the two teams take such as an opportunity to repair as much of everyone's gear as they can while the doctors heal the wounded.

But the realization their enemies were so close to Meduna prompted their enemies to become more and more aggressive. Aware he stood no chance on his own, Gasket retreated from Estoni and headed towards the SAM site to the east.

I suppose they went bankrupt. Good, now I can just pay Gasket directly once this job is done. Nothing of value was lost.

Increasingly aggressive, Deirdranna's forces seem to be gathering all around.

This will be nasty.

Gasket carefully advances to the desert along its sparse shrubs and rocks, where he plans to take a position to intercept enemy forces heading towards the SAM site through its only entrances.

The militias manage to bring some casualties on their own, but it is unlikely they would survive by their own against mostly elite forces. If the militias using rocket rifles has something to do with Orta, I suppose it was not as useless as it looked.

Things are going badly. Most of the militias perished already. Gasket takes his position.

His positioning is perfect considering all enemies this time are coming from the west. hidden by shrubs and covered by a rock, he remains in place to do his best.

An unbreakable barrier set upon that spot all enemy forces end showing up at. And finally, one that ran inside the facility was put to the knife by a militia.

Not bad for a mechanic with no real shooting skills. He also got hold of a funny Russian silenced sniper rifle, that although of limited range at 400 meters, is very quiet and an automatic weapon. Once the airspace of Meduna is secure, he'll bring it to Ulminati, but for now he'll keep it for himself.

And thus, despite all aggressive attempts of the enemy to disrupt their advance, the two main teams are ready to break into the perimeter of Meduna, where most likely the best of Deirdranna soldiers and the few tanks of Arulco will be waiting for them.
