And if you didn't understand all the symbolism and the ending of No Country for Old Men, you should stick to Halo and Will Smith movies.

I have the starnge feeling that for some weird reason, this thread actually started out in the RPG section..

So anyway, I was wildly searching for it now, as I thought by now we would have some
awesome, mind-boggling ending...

..but there's only this? :?

C'MON, TIN TIN, YOU'RE NOT SERIOUS, ARE YOU? :o

Of course I'm not serious.

My computer screwed up on me and my save games were deleted.

I'm currently playing back to the part I left off....

Sad to hear about that. Sorry for your extra effort, but we'll never forgive you if you leave us hanging there.

(umm.. perhaps saving to CD/DVD every once in a while might be a good idea? :? )

Awesome LP.
This is one of the few adventures game I did not have the chance to play back then.

There isn't much playing in this finale.

Some knowledge of the USSR, particularly the August coup, will enrich your enjoyment of this.

WARNING this isn't really a "Let's Play", more like a "Let's read!" and I don't have anything to really comment on either. Basically one long string of screenshots.

Here we are in the art gallery:

kgbprg_000.png

Nothing much in the front. Just paintings.

Head on over to the back.

There's a statue. Upon closer inspection, the sword appears to come out.

kgbprg_002.png

We pull out the sword from the statue. Maybe it triggers something?

There is a letter open nearby.

kgbprg_004.png

So we push the letter opener into the hole and...

kgbprg_005.png

So the painting slides over leaving a big hole. We go inside.

kgbprg_006.png

kgbprg_007.png

If it isn't old Gorbachev. What's an important fellow like you doing in a place like this?

kgbprg_008.png

Footsteps behind me.

kgbprg_009.png

Major Vovlov and Major Savinkov are in front of me.

kgbprg_010.png

kgbprg_011.png

kgbprg_012.png

The Gorbachev lookalike is Protopopov. It should be clear now why he was involved in this mind-altering psychoexperiments.

kgbprg_013.png

kgbprg_014.png

Just as Cut-Throat predicted.

kgbprg_015.png

Didn't work.

"New Birth". We know that, remember?

kgbprg_039.png

kgbprg_040.png

I refuse.

kgbprg_041.png

Won't do it.

kgbprg_042.png

Then there's noise behind us.

A new pair join the room.

kgbprg_043.png

My Uncle Vanya and his nurse-dude.

kgbprg_045.png

kgbprg_046.png

"Comrade colonel Rukov"?

kgbprg_048.png

kgbprg_049.png

kgbprg_050.png

kgbprg_051.png

kgbprg_052.png

Vovlov raises his gun.

kgbprg_053.png

kgbprg_054.png

kgbprg_055.png

kgbprg_056.png

kgbprg_066.png

kgbprg_067.png

kgbprg_068.png

kgbprg_069.png

kgbprg_070.png

The nurse dude jumps in front.

kgbprg_071.png

kgbprg_072.png

Vovlov is about to stir.

I take the opportunity to grab the gun that Savinkov had dropped.

kgbprg_073.png

kgbprg_075.png

I shoot him.

He drops, clutching the wound.

kgbprg_076.png

kgbprg_077.png

kgbprg_078.png

Vovlov dies.

Suddenly, Protopopov, the Gorbachev lookalike, begins to speak, reciting the brainwashed lines fed to him. He speaks as Gorbachev, announcing his resignation as was planned:

kgbprg_080.png

kgbprg_081.png

kgbprg_082.png

kgbprg_083.png

kgbprg_084.png

kgbprg_085.png

kgbprg_086.png

kgbprg_087.png

kgbprg_088.png

And that's the end.

As I have said before, what we were witnessing throughout this game was the lead up to the August coup of 1991.

Obviously the Protopopov bit was fictionalized, but there was indeed a conspiracy to overthrow Gorbachev by hardliners in the government organizations, and in this game you were kind of thrown in the middle of that as it happened, but with this fictionalized Protopopov stuff, and the culprits being a select hardline group operating within the KGB.

Fantastic stuff. And what a masterstroke of an ending.

But your dead parents...why did Verto have pictures of their car accident?

It seems that there is still much of the story that you have to figure out yourself, much like the Bronze Sphere from Torment.

Well so it ends.

When I played I missed a couple of small things, and had absolutely no idea Protopopov would turn out to be a Gorbachev clone. It was a nice surprise.

(And so an LP actually finishes!) Thanks Tintin.

Thanks guys. Classes start for me so I'll have less time from now on, but this was fun enough that I'm considering doing another game from my childhood, maybe Lost Eden (another Cryo adventure game), or Bad Mojo, something like that. We'll see.

Good job. Is Lost Eden the first-person one with the dinosaurs? In that case, do another game since it's incredibly easy and not very good in general.

There's only one ending. Also how would I submit to that site?

From the FAQ...

Do you think this Let's Play thread is good enough to make it into the Archive?
We don't accept or deny threads based on their quality (or lack thereof). Unless it's really, really bad.

Are you going to add this Let's Play thread?
If you want to see a certain thread added to the Archive, please contact one of the administrators.

Can I help out with your site?
Absolutely! You can help by sending us complete, properly formatted Let's Play threads. If you've got a Something Awful forums account, please read the first post of the stickied General Discussion thread for more information on this subject. You can contact one of the Let's Play Archive administrators for more advice and for instructions on how to send these threads to us.
Only problem might be that this one was done on the Codex instead of SomethingAwful, but I can't see why they wouldn't accept this one.
