Introduction
Der Langrisser is an old SNES strategy-RPG (or 'jap shit' as it'd be called in these parts) that's interesting because it was among the first of it's kind to offer a storyline that gave the player important choices to make and branched out appropriately based on his decisions. At a time when selecting 'No' just made NPCs repeat the question until you got tired and answered 'Yes', Der Langrisser let you make your own enemies and allies. I've been wanting to do a LP and I've been meaning to play this game now that it has a decent translation patch, so the outcome of all that is this thread. This is my first attempt at doing anything like this, so please bear with me through any technical difficulties. I know a bit about the game because I played it several years ago with a very incomplete Engrish patch, but I've never played past the first few missions.
My personal Kodex Kode of Konduct for the duration of this thread is as follows:
- -No save-state abuse
-No min-maxing
-Popular consensus decides all story decisions and class upgrades
-I'm using the most recent patch by 'DL Team'
-No guides or FAQs
-No surprise penis shots when you're expecting the result of a key battle
-For the sake of brevity, I will not show every line of dialogue/move. Everything omitted will be summarized to the best of my ability
-Expect format changes as I'm still figuring out the easiest way to do this
Key Aspects of the Game:
- -Groups of little men run into each other, your job is to ensure the right groups run into the little men they're most likely to knock over (reverse that for your enemies).
-These battles are depicted through brutal and visceral cutscenes where heavily armored men are effortlessly thrown across the screen and human bodies explode like dynamite. It's Red Rover ...with Attitude!
-Two main unit types, Leaders (your elite heroes) and Soldiers (their goons).
-Leaders hire temporary squads of soldiers as support at the beginning of each mission.
-Leaders exude an aura of authority that grants bonuses to Soldiers as long as they stay in range (clearly indicated by a blue highlight).
-Leaders heal via the 'Rally' command, Soldiers heal by standing adjacent to their Leaders.
-Leaders level up and can eventually change class, all EXP Soldiers earn goes to their Leader.
-There are several tiers of classes for each leader, some leaders have a hidden extra tier. Each class change lets you pick from two advanced classes.
-Leaders have 10 HP, Soldiers come in squads of 10. Both weaken offensively and defensively as they're reduced from 10 to 0 HP/troops.
-Some Leaders can do magic and stuff.
-When a Leader falls, his Soldiers fall too. This goes for friends and enemies and you do NOT get the EXP or money from Soldiers that fall because their Leader got whacked.
-Different terrain tiles provide offensive/defensive bonuses/penalties.
-There are certain tiles that grant huge bonuses (permanent stat raises or items) when you stand on them, but I don't remember any and I'm not using FAQs for this LP.
-Certain unit types are less/more effective against others:
THE STORY SO FAR:
Are your panties wet yet? Well they will be after we go through the wonderful process of Character Creation! Your initial class and stats are determined by a quiz. I wanted to make part this interactive, but the questions you are asked change depending on the answers you give, so it would've been a giant pain in the ass. Also, it doesn't really matter that much because it's pretty hard to make a bad hero. But what really killed it is no matter what your initial class is, it doesn't matter because your class progression choices are the same. Here comes this fairy broad to test our mettle...
Sure. If by 'honestly', you mean 'so it sounds like you'd make a bad ass character'
Bros don't abandon bros in cold bro.
Ignore the cursor, I told her that I'm more enough for the mooks this game is about the throw at me. And it seems like the order of these questions got messed up somehow, clearly the mistake of an inexperienced LPer.
Let's see what has become of young Lord Codex...
A fine warrior, indeed! Brave Codex will start the game off as a cavalry unit, which means he mows down infantry but gets gutted by spear-men (this horse-spear relationship sounds a bit familiar...). He's also a little bit of a glass cannon, significantly stronger offensively than he is defensively. He can dish it out but he has a hard time taking it. That doesn't sound like Codex at all, but whatever.
Yeah, girl, this is acceptable. Now please remove yourself from my sight and let's start this adventure!
