Our dear backers and supporters,
The most fascinating thing now is the knowledge that, regardless of the amount in the upper right corner, there are 584 people from all around the world, who have decided to support us in our effort.
Your support, feedback and comments give us the energy and confidence in what we do and that it makes sense. Sense is a commodity that can sometimes be scarce and therefore we cannot begin this text with anything else but a massive
THANK YOU ALL!
When we started our journey with the Legions, we always knew it would be difficult. So naturally, having to end our campaign, and thus running out of funding for our further development, is still by far the biggest blow that happened to us so far. But it won´t be a fatal one.
Sornyak means
weed in Russian. And I mean the other sense of the word than the one you immediately thought of...
Anyone who has ever done some gardening knows that weeds are not so easy to get rid of. Whenever you rip out one of the inconvenient plants, another one is already sprouting somewhere else. And then another one. In the same manner, we are striving to be as unrelenting and annoying - until we achieve our goal. Until we will have a game!
We are determined to finish this project. There are several ways that come to mind and can be taken. We have some ideas. Some are more optimistic and some more... cautious. Let's try them out and see how feasible... or, conversely, how muddy and impassable they are.
But before that we must go through our own observations and fresh experience. We must analyse our weaknesses. We always knew that addressing a complicated political conflict is clearly more challenging and insidious than just putting up two ´good and evil´ armies against each other. But as we wrote above – we have never been more convinced of its importance.
Did you know that today it has been 100 years since the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II?
This year, there is yet one big historic anniversary taking place. Our original goal was to release
Legion 1917 to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution on
November 7th.
We know now that we cannot deliver the game to you as such. But we will try to do our best to make some use of the approaching date.
At the same time, we do not want to focus our efforts only on that date.
A good game (and believe me, that is our primary objective) will give you the corresponding experience at the 101st anniversary as well. And you know how our graphics are – they don´t age too quickly, because they were "old" from the very beginning.

During the development, we have experienced a lot of episodes and enlightenment on the topic of "game development - it's not as easy as it looks on TV".
For instance: back in January we went through a week of intense crunch time, in which the core of our team broke internal records of time spent in the Unreal Engine.
We succumbed one by one to tonsillitis, our strength was leaving us (we must admit - the management seriously underestimated our vodka stocks required for such a situation) and we were drawing from our last reserves.
When you´re chugging the tenth mug of tea, and the world seems to be one bleak experience – one must ask, "
what are we even doing here?"
The answer can be found after you double click the Legion-demo.exe.
Or behind each move command to one of our characters. Every bullet shot which travels the way it is meant to, and each particle effect that does not look like nonsense.
When you combine any of these with the belief that what we are doing will result in a special experience, the pulse eventually slows down. We can´t wait for you to try our game out someday!
We want to invite you all to follow our
Facebook page, where we will keep up the effort of sharing the news from the development, highlight important history moments and discuss it all. We will try to prepare more detailed articles about our research, development and design.
Before we wrap up this text, there is still need for one final request. All of you who have contributed had already made one step towards the creation of our game and we ask you to give us yet a little of your time. Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to reach out to you through questionnaires and thus get feedback on our work.
We want to improve. We want to make the best game possible. Please, let us steal 10 minutes of your time and fill out the surveys that were sent out. Anonymously, of course.
When the political environment of Russia changed a hundred years ago, the society was filled with hope for changes for the better. At the time, it seemed like a victory, but with the passing of time it turned out that the true winners were not even in the country yet.
At the time when Nicholas II. renounces the throne, Lenin is still in Switzerland, Stalin remains imprisoned and Trotsky is in America.
So even though today may seem as a "defeat" to us now, we believe that with your help we can one day achieve "victory". We are not aiming for an international socialist revolution, but we certainly want to make a great game about one!
In recent week we recieved a lot of support and advices. We welcome it all! |If you have any idea or advice or skill...that might help us in our situation - please do not hesitate to contact us through our FB page or on team@legie1917.cz !
See you soon!
