[ Update ]

When the Penny Arcade Expo discussion panels schedule was released last week it took a while before people noticed some interesting stuff, like the fact that Relic will talk more about a new multiplayer game mode for their sci-fi RTS Dawn of War II.

It is called Last Stand, which is also the name of that heroic last mission in the campaign. Without giving away too much let's just say you had plenty of enemies to kill, something which we'll probably see in this game mode as well.

Discover a game mode where it’s fun to lose.

To date, Dawn of War II’s core offerings have been its epic progression-based Campaign and fast-paced multiplayer that let you get straight to the action. In this panel, Relic developers will unveil a brand new game mode called The Last Stand that will expand the game to include co-operative based arcade gameplay. We will discuss the design intent and some of the obstacles we overcame while developing The Last Stand as well as the gameplay mechanics we used to ensure no one ever feels like a loser.

So, a four man coop standoff against a relentless and neverending swarm of foes where the challenge is to see how long you can hold out against them? Relic is taking "seeing how Valve does DLC" perhaps a bit literally as Last Stand might have a lot in common with the Survival Pack for Left 4 Dead.

The discussion panel is on September 6th but PC Gamer UK will have more on it in their newest issue which will be out on August 27th. Who knows we might even see some revelations this week at Games Com too. Relic has been cooking this up for a long time, makes you wonder when they'll start talking about the first expansion for Dawn of War II.

Spotted @ Penny Arcade
