I just found out about this today but apparently someone from the Final Fantasy Tactics hack board http://ffhacktics.com/ is working on a FFT clone for PC and now has the engine on Kickstarter. He's asking for $20k

Here's the forum he talks about it at.

Personally I think it looks neat but the video is in desperate need of an editor. What he's saying is just layered over the video which is demonstrating the engine but neither one works with the other. Then there's the last 2 minutes which just continues doing random stuff in the engine. Also considering when it started and how much money it has it will be a long shot. Still I just figured I may as well mention it.

Bound to fail and I don't see many people here interested, I won't add it for now.

Fair enough. The guy running it really needed to advertise it more. It seems like he seriously hoped that one site alone would cover the whole 20k.

Fuck me! 3 million for gaming figurines! Seriously, fucking fuck. Fuckity fuck fucking fuck fuck. Haha! I don't begrudge them this; I'm just amazed!

Though I do think they are using Kickstarter as a pre-order system, now, though - which people often rally against, but hey. It's working for them.

Hahah, though. Fuck. Nice work.

It's not big news, Games workshop has been fleecing this crowd for years

Well also Reaper had already established themselves over many years as the preeminent miniatures company, consistently producing high-quality work. This combined with the Bones line being more affordable than metal made their first KS irresistible to many gamers - some who hadn't even collected minis before (myself included). The vampire pledge level was like getting an instant minis collection for $100. Now, if you bought all of that separately it would cost $400+.

If an unknown startup miniatures company came around with the same Kickstarter they wouldn't be pulling in these millions.

But yeah Bones II will probably do even better than the first one - they delivered on their promise (if a bit late), so people know what to expect. Tons of minis for an insanely good price.

Yeah, they look really cool. I'm impressed - their KS story is one of the good ones, it looks like. You dig the miniatures you got from them?

Yeah they're great - holding a surprising amount of detail for being plastic. The sad thing is I just haven't had much free time to paint them yet. But I will probably pledge for their new Kickstarter too, if I can afford it (still deciding that). Then I'll be stocked up with minis for the foreseeable future!

Not really. The kickstarter money is actually funding the cutting of the expensive steel moulds that are needed to make injected plastic figures, it would take them years to put this many figures into production without kickstarter.

Right on. I just find the whole process, and Kickstarter, fascinating. It's cool to see such a successful project on Kickstarter.
