IMO this era was nice cause there was still some arcade immediacy to games which by the next generation was completely abandoned in favor of decline.

The late 90s/early 2000s might have been the best period for 3D acshun games IMO. Even some of the more derpy ones like Crusaders of Might and Magic were pretty damn solid, and then you had the really good stuff like FAKK2, Rune, Heretic 2, Giants and MDK (I like both).

Lot of games with potential but a majority of them aged like milk, especially the ones in the 90s, usually because they sacrificed gameplay in favor of having 3d graphics in the first place or had shitty design trends like lock-on shooting or mandatory sewer platforming.
Sadly we got the CoD era right when devs started being able to have more than 5 enemies on screen at once while also having decent grafix.
