Quite a while, but it's been playable all the same. And there's a huge modding community pushing excellent additions to gameplay every week. We can only hope SQUAD keeps developing it well after 1.0

Countdown video, might be facepalm inducing:

Not really facepalm inducing, just lame. Squad lost their chance to state "CANON!!! Kerbals are sentient fungus", but at least nothing stops anyone from hiring exclusively the only ones qualified to be astronauts and firing affirmative action deadweights hired by the previous librul administration of the KSP which could not even climb farther than 5 km because of its obsession with social justice.

This one is a bit better, fairing editing looks pretty cool:

New devnotes, last ones before 1.0, some stuff mentioned:

- Reworked science lab. You "feed" it experiments, it processes them over time up to a cap so you can't time warp to victory.

- new contracts including Grand Tours, Tourism, Part Recovery and Resource Extraction

- heat shield scorch mark shader, so you know how much you've burned the thing:

- some easter egg related to resource extractions that is going to take a while to find, a very large easter egg

- some final undisclosed feature that was necessary for 1.0, a victory condition maybe?

Victory condition should obviously be a colony on another planet.

Or reaching alpha centauri.

Not stock. Several mods add additional systems, and a few mods are available with warp/Alcubierre drives.

Regarding those scorch shaders, it'd be nice if they included streaks on the capsule bodies as well. The Apollo capsules looked like hell at recovery.

That will probably happen after friday's squadcast.

BTW this is going to be available on GOG starting on Monday. Just in case you dislike steam's porn deletion and you are annoyed by the not always stellar Squad Store servers.

I'm naively hoping the modding scene of this game will not be devoured by the latest idiot leeching scheme from Steam and suddenly mostly become steam-exclusive and p2mod now that its 1.0 version is about to be released.

Doubtful. Most mods are hosted either on Curse or Kerbal stuff.

I don't even launch via Steam anyway, since I use command line parameters, and I get my mods via the CKAN utility.

Some people are streaming KSP 1.0 on twitch. (I thought there was an NDA?)
Anyway, they were pretty bad so I stopped watching. I did get a peek at the new tech tree though. Looks like there's a lot more nodes to unlock now.

Some vids are up on youtube. One feature that was not mentioned before, launches kicking up dust (hopefully rovers also do it). Obligatory Scott Manley vid:

I also noticed one of the plane cockpits has a fighter-like HUD in IVA (the inline cockpit I think).

New parts include airbrakes, yuseful since the souposphere's demise means you can go way faster at low altitude. Ailerons can be set to work as airbrakes or flaps as well.

Resource scanning has two different display modes scanlines and the dot matrix.

Aerodynamic stress is a thing.

Tourism contracts can have multiple tourists with each tourist demanding to visit something different (ones wants just orbit, the other dude a mun flyby while the 3rd wants mun+minmus).

ISRU parts are somewhere near the end of the tech tree on the SCIENCE!!! branches.

Merge option under craft loading in editors, basically an alternative to saving subassemblies and just importing whole crafts.

Fairings have mass and cost funds depending on how big you make them. Also hovering over the fairings triggers exploded view of the fairings to reveal the contents.

I am intrigued by what parts are under the "angry robot" node icon.

New wings also allow you to recreate the reich flying wing jet bomber :M

Service bays don't have that centrepiece shown on the screenshots, so you can just stick a rover inside with no problem.

LV-Ns finally run on liquid fuel only, as they should.

Parachutes now deploy more gradually.

Is there a tutorial or beginner's guide for non-autistic people retards for this? I'm trying to get into it, but the interface is daunting.

The game does have a tutorial.

Although its not great, but I hear they were improving it for the official release.

I'm sure there are plenty of guides on youtube and steam and such though. Some are probably decent.

You should check out Scott Manley on YouTube. He does some good stuff. Bear in mind that the physics model for atmospheric flight is completely redone in 1.0, so some of his designs will be obsolete. You could also stay peeled for the inevitable let's play by me or Hellraiser
