Japanese animation style can look good but the cheap, cutesy "moe" style needs to stop.

Art style is really the least of the genre's problems

yeah, if anything, the art is usually pretty good

i can see why rpg fans like this studio... you can grind yourself past the abysmal action mechanics

... but they are action games, and fucking terrible ones

First off, Japanese people really need to ditch animu. It's pure faggotry, and you all know it.
You do realise that From Soft's primary artistic inspirations are manga and anime, right?
Not just visually, but storytelling and atmosphere as well...

DeS + DS + ER - Berserk
Sekiro - Ninja Scroll
Bloodborne - Vampire Hunter D

You are literally playing "Dark Fantasy Anime" games.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
RPGs made in Japan should be posted about in the General RPG Discussion forum.

This one should only be for actual JRPGs.
Which includes games not made in Japan, like all those RPG Maker shovelwares, or Septerra Core, or Anachronox...

animu faggotry
Invariably most rants against jrpgs are actually rants against the one game the person tried and sucked at. But this is on point. Westerners don't like anime games, especially current animu which are 60% or more visual novel verbal diarrhea.

From soft deserves to be ushered into western canon by virtue of brevity alone.

fucking terrible

Yeah well...
Anime mostly went to shit in the mid 2000's
Cutsey attracts the plebs, plus it's cheap and easy to animate
Cutesy anime shit started in the 70s tbh

Also I gotta lol @ chuddies not being able to cope with the fact that From is a japanese company

Souls games don't belong with JRPGs, JRPG is a specific genre that doesn't include everything ever made in Japan that has level ups and stats.

Other Jap games that aren't JRPGs: Doragonuzu Doguma, Legend of Zelda: Breast of the Wild/Ears of the Kingdom, and probably Devil May Cry/Bayoslutta.

Yes, but this subforum has long been the depository of all Japanese-developed RPGs, regardless of whether they fall into the JRPG subgenre, as well as some (but not all) Japanese-developed non-RPGs. :M

where the best is like the worst
The whole term "JRPG" is meaningless and mainly used for racism rather than defining a genre. Dragon's Dogma is the closest that gaming came to recreating D&D experience and it's somehow in the "JRPG" section. Torment has more JRPG elements that DD.
