It began with an offhand comment, a mere hint of clouds on the horizon:

"As DarkUnderlord has said, I've been operating as the de-facto editor-in-chief for quite a while now. I do have some ideas for the forum that I can now effect with my new admin powers, but I'm not going to do anything drastic without DU's approval."
The ranks of the great unwashed have heard nothing further on the subject, no newspost stating the new direction for the Codex, not even a response to their pitiful pleas in Site Feedback. So all we can do is sit back, consider the clues, and see what is taking shape behind the smokescreen of noise and mild drama put up by Deadfire fans and other useful idiots.
- Anything deemed too controversial or edgy is now quickly hidden in "Gaming Drama" and even swiftly retardo'd from there, as with the JF/Realms Beyond stuff. Probably makes sense though, given this forum was, after all, founded to "be nice to developers". So on its own this isn't too serious.
- More forums hidden from newcomers, including the Library. Possibly due to people expressing non-PC thoughts about films, books and caped adventures in general. Ok, fine.
- Gradual tightening-up of moderation, retardoing and the purging of alts. Slowly, steadily, with notable exceptions when it comes to Obsidian fans like Safav - so the overall level of shitposting appears to remain relatively constant. Cleverly done, in fact, everyone is a winner with this arrangement.
- Purging of all "political" smileys, even ones just depicting Kwanzanian fatties. Changes the character of this place a bit, and Commissar Draco posts have been eviscerated, but such is the price of progress.
- The strategy/tactics/simulation thing. Meh.
So all ok so far, just minor tweaks hinting at a larger strategic plan. But now we come to the serious shit.
- Removing the Cooking and Sport subforums, without so much as a word . Forums that make up the core of the Codex experience, its very reason for existing. Moderators are reduced to begging the cold and impassive 'Tron for the return of their realms. Peons shake their tiny fists in Site Feedback. Yet the inheritor of DU's vacant throne remains silent.
So where do we lurkers and ordinary members stand? Clearly all the recent talk of a breakaway forum will go nowhere as usual. Only a deranged lunatic would think a site where people are completely free to be critical of devs or discuss pizza crusts would ever take off. So all we can do is watch and wait and accept the reality we face. And hope that our ruler may one day grace us with a "State of Codexia" address so we may understand his vision for our future.
