<a href="http://www.sjgames.com/">Steve Jackson Games</a> and <a href="http://www.worlds-apart.com/">Worlds Apart Productions</a> Have announced plans to take <a href="http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/">GURPS</a> into the already flooded MMO market.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>"We've been wanting to take GURPS online for a long time," said Steve Jackson, President of Steve Jackson Games. "Until now, we just hadn't found the right partner. Worlds Apart understands the importance of taking care of the player community, and we're excited about what we're going to be able to do together."</blockquote>
<br>
The press release can be read <a href="http://www.worlds-apart.com/News/press_release_august_20_2002.shtml">here</a>
<br>
<br>
I also found this cute:
<br>
<blockquote>Worlds Apart's latest title is Grendel's Revenge, a
<br>
text-based hybrid RPG/RTS in which players get to play as the
<br>
monsters. </blockquote>
<br>
<br>
Why would <a href="http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/">GURPS</a> need to be taken into the MUD scene?

You know, I think GURPS would be *great* for a modmaker-oriented game. Especially if you'd allow modmakers / server admins to load extra GURPS rules. Basically mix & match like the pen & paper GURPS, where you can easily combine wild west weaponry with cyberpunk equipment. I don't think, though, that using the ruleset for an MMORPG is going to make the slightest bit of difference.

I agree. I don't see how they can make use of GURPS' main strength - the genre-spanning nature of the system - in an MMORPG, but they could with a module-based game.

Behind you.
I just think Steve Jackson pissed away a great opportunity when he decided Fallout was too violent for the GURPS name. Now he's basically reduced to shacking up with some developer that just makes text games.

That has to be one of the biggest blunders made in RPG History there.
