Arx Fatalis
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
Gothic
Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus
Lionheart: Legacy of a Crusader
Robinson's Requiem Collection
Sacred Gold
Stone Keep

The Fallouts, no question. Gothic, though I can't play the thing interface is too shitty but some people are better about that.

And then... Are any of those must plays? Try and quantify it if you can. If time is at a premium (as opposed to $'s), are any of them worth the investment?

Also feel free to bring up non-RPG titles with, say, RPG and strategy elements as per the themes of this site which are particularly excellent.

edit: Also now that I'm browsing their site again guys there are a couple of free adventure games might be worth grabbing.

Apart from Fallout I & II, the only one in that list I have played is Stone Keep and I didn't like it when I played it many years ago.

Arx Fatalis is a fun game. Very cool gesture and rune based magic system and a solid stealth system. (The mage/thief character archetype is a blast.) Excellent atmosphere, but lousy story and dialog. Quite good dungeon/area design, with some decent puzzles. The goblins are adorable. Character system is serviceable. Virtually zero replay value, and not a very long game, but well worth the GOG price. Worth a try if for no other reason than that (unless you have played UU or UU2) it's likely to be quite a different experience from the other RPGs you've played.

Must. Have. Arx Fatalis.

I am a sucker for a first-person action RPG with big indoor areas.

The game does come with a short book though, which is kind of cool considering most developers would never throw in shit like that nowadays.

Robinson's Requiem an RPG? I thought it was a painfully difficult survival sim. Somebody who's played it enlighten me here.
I can't say that the Silmarils connection bodes well.

Other than that, I've already snapped up the other good picks

It's good, but not great. It's a fine pick if nothing else is engaging you.

I looked through their promo list and there isn't so much which would potentially interest me (or I already own them legally). Still, I bought two games since with the promotion and the good ratio between Euro and Dollar the games are dirt cheap. So, now I can call Stonekeep and Arx Fatalis my own. I've never played Stonekeep and actually forgot that it did exist until it appeared on GOG. I'm really looking forward to playing an old-school first person dungeon crawler after all these years. I already have Arx lying around as a pirated copy somewhere but this seemed like the perfect opportunity both legalize it and support the awesome GOG people.

At this point I'd like to express my amazement about the GOG website. Simply said, it's a joy to use. First, it looks good to me. They were, uh, heavily inspired by Apple's website but that's a good thing. Plus, the functionality and organization is great. It's a joy to use compared to many other sites (e.g. Amazon) which feels like being trapped in a maze sometimes.

Apart from some of the others already mentioned, I've also played Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus and Sacred Gold. Here are some thoughts:

Invictus - I bought and played this about 10 years ago, so this is what I remember. I'd really hesitate to call this an RPG. Its more like squad-based real-time tactics, kind of like Freedom Force, if you've played it. Unfortunately, I don't recall it being nearly as good. If I remember right, at the beginning, you select a Greek hero from a list (like Hercules), each with a couple special abilities, who then travels around with a couple grunts and beat up bad guys. It got boring really fast. While it had some potential (personally, I'm a sucker for mythology), I'd really recommend a pass.

Sacred Gold - If you didn't know, its an 'RPG' like Diablo and Diablo II. Compared to Diablo II, Sacred has a much larger, free-roaming world. There are quite a number of quests, but while there are a few escort-type quests, you can probably guess that most just devolved into killing hordes of bad guys. There are eight different characters, but each has far fewer skills available (between 10 and 20), and several of the characters have virtually identical skills. The enemies scale with your level, and respawn almost immediately after you leave the area, so backtracking is exceedingly annoying. Oh, and there are mounts, and you can fight while mounted. Overall, it was fun for a couple hours, but didn't really hold my interest much past that. Might be worth a couple bucks if you like Diablo-type games.

Sacred Gold is a fun hack and slash similar to the Diablo series. The graphics are pretty solid and there's a surprisingly large number of unique classes to pick from. I"m having a really good time playing it myself, even if it is just a somewhat updated version of Diablo to be honest. I'd recommend that one.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Robinson's Requiem Collection

Isn't that abandonware? I remember downloading it on abandonia a while ago.

Also, did anyone play this Invictus thing? I heard of it but don't really know what it is.

From the games that gog currently have, I already own ALL of the ones that I want, while other like Invictus(sound uninteresting), and Robinson's Requiem(definitely not my thing) I'll never buy.

That said I would've bought Arx Fatalis from them if they were around years ago, instead of from Steam. BTW: people here like to overhype Arx. It's not nearly as good or interactive as the Ultima Underworlds and even compared to RPG contemporaries of the game it's not all that great unless you enjoy games whose entire color palette consists of black and shades of brown... (If it's $10 or less go ahead and get it though, it'll kill 15-20h. Oh yeah, it's VERY short too...)
