Am I the only one not giving a fuck about graphics (apart from installing QTP3 and maybe RAEVWD) and just installing all gameplay mods to make oblivion bearable?
I used to but I haven't done it in a year. I am just now modding it though.Do you mod oblivion? I'm curious about your load order.
I feel as if Oblivion was just inherently more pleasing aesthetically than Skyrim. I don't know how they managed to fuck up a Nord iceland with snow, flying whales, viking gods, Valhalla, and bad ass stone castles, but they've swamped everything in an ugly green and tinted, washed out blue for some reason, and chose terrible textures for many of the locations for some reason. Some Oblivion screenshots for comparison:
This looks lovely and i would like to know what and where to get all this to make oblivion not look an eyesore, but Id bet my last dollar that it runs like shit in comparison to skyrim, even heavily modded skyrim. Thats the other half of the problem with trying to upgrade old games - the engine limitations outpace the hardware advancements.
If for some reason you have 5 hours of your life to waste retrospecting Oblivion (and other TES games), here it is:
edit: guys, you don't READ youtube videos...
Oblivion is much like the Star Wars prequels - complete and utter shit compared to the earlier titles, but due to Skyrim and FO4 being even worse you can't help but miss the times when we only had to complain about something that was relatively good in comparison to Skyrim and FO4.

As flawed as Skyrim and Fallout 4 are they're both a fuck-ton better than Oblivion. Oblivion has all the dumbing down of future Bethesda games but done in a more slap-dash and amateurish way, plus it being their first foray into fully voiced dialog meant it was even more poorly written than usual, and was cut way down to save space on the Xbawks DVD. With the OOO mod Oblivion is a playable hack n' slash open world game, but it's by far Bethesda's worst work IMO, not counting spinoff shit like Battlespire.
I lost all hope for Skyrim when I lockpicked one lock and stole a couple of items and gained a level for these heroic feats. I also killed a dragon on level 5. At least in Oblivion I'm not the center of the universe on level 5.

You need to be at least level 2 to complete a daedric quest which is required to get an artifact for the MQ. Other than explicit level gating of daedric quests everything is scaled so you will not have any problems thwarting a wholesale daedric invasion as lvl2 nobody.
Coincidentally, this thread is a splendid retards.txt material.
Yes, you do have to be speedrunning the game for that. Speedrunning Skyrim to be precise.DraQ said:No, it's level 2.

Oblivion gates are not encountered 1 hour into the game. You have to be speedrunning the game to tackle Oblivion gates the time you fight a dragon in the main questline of Skyrim.
Oblivion was the first RPG or even the first video game I played after a gaming hiatus of many years. The vast 3D world and the simulationists aspects of it was something completely new to me and it kinda blew my mind. I recognize the games flaws but I have fond memories of it nonetheless.
Yes, you can encounter an Oblivion gate in the first hour into the game, the one in Kvatch. I'm pretty sure this is intended because it's on the same path as the main quest.Oblivion gates are not encountered 1 hour into the game. Encountering this gate, entering Oblivion, and closing the gate are necessary parts of the main quest, in order to then proceed into Kvatch, rescue Martin, and escort him to Weynon Priory. As with the rest of the game, the enemies you encounter here are leveled according the player-character's level, so that a low-level PC will fight weak "stunted scamps" and can also acquire the help of an NPC soldier with a static level (who is, therefore, more beneficial to lower-level PCs).Yes, you can encounter an Oblivion gate in the first hour into the game, the one in Kvatch.
