Gamescom 2018 opening ceremony teases world premieres from Ubisoft, THQ Nordic, Bandai Namco, and more

The Gamescom 2018 opening ceremeony will include various world premieres and new game announcements, organizer Game – Verband der deutschen Games-Branche teased.

The list includes:
  • Ubisoft will present a global premiere.
  • THQ Nordic will introduce a previously unannounced title based on one of the publisher’s established brands.
  • The first trailer for Life is Strange 2 will debut.
  • Koch Media publishing label Deep Silver will make a new announcement.
  • Bandai Namco will announce a new game from a European developer.
Some of these newly announced titles will be available to play at the publishers’ booths in the entertainment area directly following the presentation.

You will be able to watch the opening ceremony live on the Gamescom 2018 official website on August 21 at 2:00 a.m. PT / 5:00 a.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. CEST. Gamescom 2018 itself runs from August 21 to 25.

Blizzard has announced its schedule for Gamescom 2018, which includes an hour-long opening ceremony and several untitled events for its games lineup on the first day of the show, including a mystery “guest event.”

Activision announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Activision has announced the lineup of playable games it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.

The company teases that not only will the following games be playable, “there will also be news and announcements to share.” Here is the full list of playable titles:

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Playable on PC at the ASUS B2C booth in Hall 7.1

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII Multiplayer raises the bar, delivering Treyarch’s most thrilling, grounded Black Ops combat experience yet with a focus on tactical gameplay and player choice. The game offers a new level of online action across a variety of new weaponry, maps and modes. Hot on the heels of the Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII Multiplayer Beta, attendees will be able to get more hands-on time at the show and will also get to experience a brand-new map. We’ll have a full write up for you once we get our boots on the ground and spend some time getting our game on with fellow fans.

Destiny 2: Forsaken (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Playable at the Activision B2C booth in Hall 7.1

The first major expansion for Destiny 2 is Forsaken, and as part of that expansion Bungie introduces a new hybrid mode – Gambit. This brand-new mode merges PvP and PvE into an epic battle as players team up to fight enemies, collect motes, bank those motes to earn blockers, and to invade the opposing team’s arena and wreak havoc.

Destiny fans at Gamescom will be able to experience Gambit on PlayStation 4 and PC, just ahead of the September 4 launch date for Destiny 2: Forsaken. Bungie and Activision are thrilled to bring get this exciting new hybrid mode into the hands of European players for the first time at the show.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Playable at the Activision B2C booth in Hall 7.1

From Software, the creators of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, is the powerhouse developer behind Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In this upcoming game, you play as a “one-armed wolf” – a disgraced and disfigured warrior rescued from the brink of death. Which means it is up to you to take revenge, restore your honor, and kill ingeniously.

The audience at Gamescom is in for a very special treat as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be playable for the first time on the show floor! Get a taste for some of the game’s larger than life enemies and the reimagining of 16th century Sengoku Japan as you experience FromSoftware’s new approach to combat and try out a variety of prosthetic arm tools.

Attendees can also check out the massive Corrupted Monk statue for a chilling photo opportunity and could possibly even snag a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice t-shirt.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy (PS4, Xbox One)
Playable in the Xbox booth in Hall 8.1

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be heading into Germany, and he’s ready to heat things up! With a beautiful game lovingly brought back to life by the developers at Toys For Bob, a remastered soundtrack based on Stewart Copeland’s original classic, and voice acting by the legendary Tom Kenny, Spyro packs quite a punch. Fans at Gamescom will be able to experience new gameplay from the trilogy when they get their hands on Spyro: Year of the Dragon for the first time, and we can’t wait to see what they think!

Additionally, Activision will be selling collectible items and accessories at the Game Legends Booth (C020 in Hall 5.2), including Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII t-shirts and hoodies featuring some of the game’s Specialist characters, snapback caps, mugs, and a Funko POP! Vinyl figure of Frank Woods, as well as Crash Bandicoot posters, action figures, mugs, and a nine-inch statue.

Focus Home Interactive announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Focus Home Interactive has announced its lineup for Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.
Here is the full list of what will be showcased:

At the Focus Home Interactive Business Booth (Hall 4.1, Booth C-029G), journalists will have the opportunity to explore some of the most hotly-anticipated games through exclusive presentations, interviews and hands-on sessions:
  • Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 (Tindalos Interactive): Journalists can enjoy hands-on gameplay with Tindalos’ epic take on glorious, large-scale space battles set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
  • Call of Cthulhu (Cyanide Studio): With the release planned for the end of October, journalists will be free to investigate on Darkwater Island for the first time with 90 minutes of hands-on gameplay.
  • Fear The Wolves (Vostok Games): Exclusive developer interviews on what’s planned for this intense battle royale FPS title, created by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. veterans.
  • Space Hulk: Tactics (Cyanide Studio): The board game adaption set in Warhammer 40,000 universe will be playable for journalists eager to engage in bloody, tactical battles in gigantic Space Hulk!
  • The Surge 2 (Deck13): Deck 13 will unveil more gameplay with a 20-minute developer walkthrough showcasing the sequel’s tightened mechanics, expanded environments and brutal combat.
Players will also have the opportunity to get their hands on two of this year’s biggest releases:

  • Farming Simulator 19 (Giants Software) Hall 8.1, Booth B-021: Players will be free to harvest their way through this latest entry – including access to some of the hotly anticipated John Deere vehicles! Play for the first time at the “Farming Simulator” booth!
  • Insurgency: Sandstorm (New World Interactive) Hall 9, Deep Silver Booth B011-C011: up to 16 players can fight and experience modern combat in the hardcore FPS sequel to Insurgency!

Square Enix announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Square Enix has announced the lineup of titles it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

The following titles will be playable at the Square Enix booth:

  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (PS4, PC) – At the Square Enix booth, RPG fans can also experience the all-new adventure in the timeless Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest XI with an extensive playable demo which showcases the many content improvements and brand-new voice-over ahead of the game’s release.
  • Final Fantasy XIV Online (PS4, PC) – Critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online returns to Gamescom once more, with intense challenges and great prizes in tow. A special promotion for show attendees offers anyone registering at the booth a free copy of the Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition, while an exclusive program of stage shows with the makers of the game including Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida and Sound Director Masayoshi Soken will be taking place throughout the week, all culminating in a big cosplay competition on Saturday 25th August. Finally, on Friday 24th August and Saturday 25th August the Final Fantasy XIV Eorzean Symphony will have its European premiere at the Konzerthaus Dortmund.   • Kingdom Hearts III (PS4, Xbox One) – Gamescom attendees are invited to share the magic of Kingdom Hearts III with two playable demos, a boss battle against the Rock Titan from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Hercules and uncovering the Toy Box world from Toy Story alongside Woody and Buzz. Visitors can also take part in prime picture opportunities including a giant Keyblade and becoming a real life toy in a replica of Andy’s room from the Disney Pixar classic Toy Story.
  • Just Cause 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – This year, fans will also be treated to an exclusive presentation of Just Cause 4 at the Square Enix booth. Just Cause 4 takes the series’ incredible destruction and unique physics to a whole new level with the introduction of fully simulated tornadoes and other Extreme Weather events. Rico Rodriguez returns in Just Cause 4 with his trademark parachute, wingsuit and, of course his grapple hook, now enhanced with new functionality and fully customisable. Making it the most powerful and creative tool the player has ever had.
  • Life is Strange 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Adventure-Fans rejoice: Life is Strange 2 is coming to Gamescom 2018 as a world premiere. Not only will the development team share all the details about the highly anticipated sequel to the award winning and critically acclaimed Life is Strange – it will be playable for the first time at the Sqaure Enix booth on the Gamescom show-floor.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – The themes of Shadow of the Tomb Raider have their influence on the appearance of the Square Enix booth as well: the area is set up in the style of an imposing Mayan pyramid with numerous game stations. Visitors can get an even more intense feel for Lara Croft’s biggest adventure yet with a demo version of the action adventure.
In addition to these games, Squaer Enix will have a Square Enix Products booth, where figures, accessories, jewelerry, and board games of various popular Square Enix brands will be available for sale. Additionally, a new Square Enix Music booth will offer exclusive signed records. Finally, in a special area, visitors will be able to play Final Fantasy Trading Card Game and a new board game based on a “world-celebrated brand.”

Sega announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Sega has announced the lineup of titles it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

The following titles will be playable at the Deep Silver booth:

  • Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (PS4)
  • Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight (PS4, PS Vita)
  • Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight (PS4, PS Vita)
  • Team Sonic Racing (PS4, XBO, Switch, PC)
  • Total War: Three Kingdoms (PC)
  • Valkyria Chronicles 4 (PS4, XBO, Switch, PC)
Sega will also have a Football Manager 2019 activation that puts fans in the firing line for questioning from ESPN’s Raphael Honigstein. After that, fans can line up in front of a Football Manager-themed press wall for a photo and leave with a Football Manager notebook.

Nintendo announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Nintendo has announced the lineup of games it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.

The following titles will be playable on the show floor:

  • Dark Souls Remastered
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • FIFA 19
  • Killer Queen Black
  • Starlink: Battle for Atlas
  • Super Mario Party
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Additionally, the Nintendo UK YouTube Channel will feature a deeper look at a selection of already-announced upcoming games with a series of videos recorded at its RedCube studio on the Gamescom 2018 show floor throughout the week. This includes new gameplay from Super Mario Paty, Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country, and Marvelous’ Daemon X Machina featuring producer Kenichiro Tsukuda.

Konami announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Konami has announced the lineup of titles it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.

The full lineup of playable titles includes:

  • Hyper Sports R (Switch) – Making its playable demo debut to the public for the first time, Hyper Sports R, a new sports compilation title exclusive to Nintendo Switch, features a wide variety of individual and team sports for gamers to compete in. Playable events at the show include Track & Field, Swimming and Beach Volleyball, with more details to be announced at gamescom. The game allows for up to four friends to compete with a choice of traditional button or accurate motion controls. Additional details for Hyper Sports R, including the release date, will be announced later this year.
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – The Power of Football will be experienced like never before with Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, with the latest iteration in the graphically-advanced Pro Evolution Soccer series as it continues to highlight Konami’s commitment to creating the definitive football gaming experience. Pro Evolution Soccer 2019’s new features include Visible Fatigue, impacting performance and behaviour; new shooting mechanics and improved ball physics; ‘Enlighten’ software for true-to-life visual effects; and for the first time, 4K HDR across all platforms. myClub has also received the biggest overhaul to date, featuring a new card design system and featured Legend Players such as Phillipe Coutinho, this year’s main cover star. PES League will be included in Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, building on the success of this year’s eSports initiatives. Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 will be available from August 28th in the Americas and August 30th for Rest of the World on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Fans can expect a playable demo to debut at this year’s Konami gamescom booth.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links (iOS, Android) – A dedicated Yu-Gi-Oh! booth will also be set up in hall 5.2/E039, where attendees can get their hands on the latest product additions to the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, learn how to play, compete in tournaments, and play Konami’s massively popular Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links mobile game.
  • Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner MARS (PS4, PC) – Launching on September 4th and 6th in the Americas and rest of world respectively, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner MARS, the remaster of the original 2003 sequel, will showcase its enhanced graphics and re-engineered audio specifically for PlayStation 4 and PC. This high-speed mech action classic will be fully playable in 4K or VR – providing a brand new perspective of play for new and veteran Zone of the Enders fans. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner MARS will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and PC on September 4th in the Americas and September 6th globally at an SRP of $29.99. Fans can expect a playable demo that showcases the game’s VR feature and more at this year’s Konami gamescom booth.

Soedesco has announced the lineup of titles it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.

The full lineup of playable titles includes:

  • Monstrum (PS4, Xbox One) – This survival horror game is only for the bravest of Gamescom visitors. Monstrum is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, taking players on a nerve-racking escape from a derelict cargo ship, where a terrifying creature is out for a kill.
  • Omen of Sorrow (PS4) – The gloomy fighting game Omen of Sorrow is the perfect opportunity for a quick and deadly match against friends. Gamescom visitors can try out the legendary characters and their spectacular special moves on PlayStation 4 in multiplayer, before the game is even released. Zafkiel -one of the characters- is brought to life by cosplayer Shae, who visitors can take pictures with.
  • Truck Driver (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Truck Driver, the first trucking game available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, will be publicly playable for the very first time at Gamescom! Visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to be one of the first people try out the game during its development phase and give their feedback.
  • Three Switch games – In addition to the pixel art indie gem Owlboy, Soedesco will be bringing two more games to play on Nintendo Switch, which will be revealed soon.
  • Surprise! – The two other playable console games are left to the imagination as well for now. Players should expect these console games to be colorful, fast, and full of action!

THQ Nordic has announced the lineup of titles it is bringing to Gamescom 2018, which will run from August 21 to 25 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

Bandai Namco announces Gamescom 2018 lineup
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced its lineup of playable games for Gamescom 2018, which runs from August 21 to 25 in Cologne, Germany.

Additionally, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe vice president of marketing and digital Herve Hoerdt teased in a press release that the company will “announce a brand-new co-publishing project at the show we think our fans will be very excited about.”

The following 11 titles will be playable:

  • Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Providing the fiercest air combat experience ever, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown puts players in the cockpit of the most advanced war planes ever developed. Different weathers and flight conditions put players’ skill, dexterity and ingenuity to the ultimate test.
  • Code Vein (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Featuring a story-driven connected dungeon experience, the third-person action RPG lets players create their own avatars and choose their partners as they venture out into a dystopian world of destruction. It’s here where players will find themselves up against the Lost, a group of fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity who will stop at nothing to satisfy their hunger.
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ (Switch) – Already one of the most acclaimed fighting games of the year, Dragon Ball FighterZ is coming to Nintendo Switch on 28th September, 2018. Developed by Arc System Works, a celebrated developer of classic 2D fighting titles, the game delivers an explosive, action-packed experience that combines gorgeous 2D fighting visuals with advanced character models and visual effects that bring to life the classic Dragon Ball art style.

Soulcalibur VI allows players to battle across its signature 16th century stages and experience the epic struggle for the two legendary swords with a complete roster of returning, iconic Soulcalibur characters, as well as newcomers!

It's just played that way for comedic value in the trailer. Ingame it's the exact opposite of what you described, you are actually aware of all the routes of your enemies, their cones of vision, the tools they can use... the trailer is just poking fun at all the savescumming that happens until you find that cool strategy that makes you succeed.
