MegaMek, the BattleTech boardgame simulator for the computer. Basically it simulates everything that can happen with dice rolls as far as damage, movement, and everything else. Vehicles can spin out and crumple into a building. Aircraft can spiral out of control and ram other aircraft. Mechs can fall over and have a sequential ammo explosion leading to a cataclysmic engine meltdown. Artillery can strike buildings and fell the rubble onto the infantry below.

Are there any turn based strategy games out there that have in-depth battle reports like this?
