Hi, yeah, what the headline says.

I noticed it somewhere in 2021. I just couldn’t bother sitting at a computer when I came home; not unless I had to (homework). About 3 years after I decided to change my career and study for an engineer (I’m in my 40’s).

I spent so much time on a computer at school (and now at work) that each time I looked at my own PC, it made me nauseaous. And this has been going on since. When I think about the games, they still interest me like before, but somehow I just can’t stomach the idea of sitting on a computer at home after I’ve spent 8-11 hours on one at work 5 days a week.

I managed to play Civilization 6 on a tablet, so I suppose that’s something, but has any ’dexer went through this kind of thing, and how did you find the will to sit around a computer again to play the games?
Maybe you should go do something off of a computer like socialize, play sports, or go skydiving if the idea of spending more time on a computer makes you nauseous.

Do you get the same feeling with things that look more like handhelds? If not Steam Deck (or Decklikes) might be an option, I've been considering getting a OneXPlayer when my laptop finally explodes, looks like it would be handy for travelling.
this might be they way.

I think most wagies that work on computers all day opt for console gaming where they can just sit on the couch/recliner, relax and play mindless games just to chill out... they dont want to sit on a computer again at home just to play games.
handheld pc's like the deck (and the chinese ones) can also fufill the same function but with the benefit of being an actual pc.

I recommend the deck big time, played lots of games from my backlog while just chillin on the bed.
The moral of the story is don't work with computers. Computers exist so that we can genocide orcs, and anything else is a perversion.

I have a solution for your problem, but its going to create a bigger problem for you down the road:

Start playing during work time. As in, waste work hours playing games. Best gaming experience I ever had - but it almost got me fired. Thankfully I could conjure shitload of legitimate-sounding reasons about why my work efficiency went down the drain. Then I finished the games in question / got bored and I was myself again at work.

These symptoms mean that you have matured. Forget about games and enjoy your adult life.

Bros, I just had a revelation. I'm probably enjoying real life too much. Ever since taking these new meds I've become way more sociable and interested in the outside world. Escapism doesn't seem like such a big thing anymore.

If you want kind of PC game-related experience you can try board/card games, or even painting miniatures (will kill your back, neck and wallet though). Reading and socialising is also always a good advice. Game time will come back. With me it was Chronicles of myrtana while my wife was pregnant. Best time of my life!

Use a Steam Deck like you're in the back of a Crown Vic in 1993, or better yet use your phone, or maybe a postage stamp, but whatever you do, make sure you don't use that giant screen in your living room.
