Which scripting language do you guys think I should write the non-SQL parts in? I was thinking either Python, Lua, Scheme or Javascript.

I know Python the best, but I don't like it that much. I don't know very much about Lua, but it seems to be easy to learn and still seems to be the go-to language for scripting purposes. I would like to learn Scheme (or another Lisp) and think it is cool. Using Javascript would make it easier for developers to turn their games into Web 2.0 apps.

Have you considered AngelScript? Its almost identical to C++.

Since d20 does not have XP requirements, does anyone have a good character progression chart, or should I just use good ol' 1000*2^n?

Just use D&D's own table:

Level Min. XP
1 0
2 1000
3 3000
4 6000
5 10000
6 15000
7 21000
8 28000
9 36000
10 45000
11 55000
12 66000
13 78000
14 91000
15 105000
16 120000
17 136000
18 153000
19 171000
20 190000

It continues with the same logic:

20th 190,000
21st 210,000
22nd 231,000
23rd 253,000
24th 276,000
25th 300,000
26th 325,000
27th 351,000
28th 378,000
29th 406,000
30th 435,000

The math to figure out the level progression is +1000 x current level :)

Does doing this as a database have any advantages other than helping you learn your course?

Only issue with using the XP chart from DnD is that is *not* OGL because of wizards being silly with some stuff like that. There's a bunch of small things like that there I'm sure just to trip up people trying to use the OGL.

That's p. ridiculous...

Ye. Not that I enjoy standing up for Wizard's but I think this one has more to do with Hasbro.
