I loved the tome system, it encouraged player exploration.
Weird definition of unmodded. They come with the official 1.01 patch, you just have to unlock them by creating the command.txt. They might be easter eggs, but they're part of the official game. Just like the Bovine Plate. And they were widely advertized easter eggs, as in, I remember seeing unlock instructions in the hints section of several gaming magazines right after the patch was released. The bard and barbarian don't exist in unmodded hellfire.
Diablo 1 > Diablo 2
All three >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dungeon Siege 3Both >>>>>> Diablo 3.
Honestly I think Diablo 3 might've been salvageable if the gameplay wasn't such a monumental step backwards to make the game more appealing to console audiences. I mostly mean that the writing behind the game wasn't terrible. I'll grant that it wasn't as good as either of its predecessors, but a lot of it definitely wasn't bad for a Diablo game. It was acceptable enough to inspire me to actually finish the damn thing. Both >>>>>> Diablo 3.

Really? I found the areas more dynamic than in past games, especially with the level of destruction you could cause.Diablo 3 suffered from boring-ass areas. First act was good but after that it was fast down fall. I couldn't bring myself to finish the 3rd act.

The game is free so nobody has an excuse for not looking at it aside from time.
Not sure about boring but from a purely utilitarian point of view D3 maps were terrible because they mostly consisted of narrow tunnels that destroyed any mobility-oriented playstyle. Add high enemy movement speed here and you'll know why all ranged classes in D3 had weird melee builds that everyone switched to in the endgame.Diablo 3 suffered from boring-ass areas.
I agree with the way you described Diablo 1, but this is something I agree with especially. It's a damn shame nobody tried to recapture that setting and make a full-fledged RPG out of it
As opposed to being a single-player treasure hunting-sim with limited gameplay that's only really redeemed by its sense of atmosphere like its predecessor? Diablo 2 seriously improved upon the first game in nearly every single way outside of its MMO town mechanics. "Diablo 1 is better" is an opinion that's often poorly justified, even in your case.Diablo 2 on the other hand is a derpy, multiplayer focused treasure hunting-sim.
How? Sounds to me like you are the one with poor justifications (as in, you havent given any)Diablo 2 seriously improved upon the first game in nearly every single way outside of its MMO town mechanics.
