Starting a rant about RPG qualities with crafting and ending with character classes is astounding.

If this is based on Star Control 2 it will have a

1. Non-linear Story with actual *gasp* time limits and meaningful game changing decisions that can cause you to lose the game if you're not careful.
2. Interesting aliens / species with cool subplots/solutions
3. *fun* arcade style combat to help you enjoy the ride - with your strategic game play decisions affecting your tactical capabilities.
4. Sandbox exploration.

3 out of those 4 qualify a game for a worthy role-playing game. The combat is the icing on the cake.

No they dont, else No Man's Sky would be an RPG, or Elite Dangerous or any other sandbox spaceship game.

Star Control II is an RPG because Ship Guy has upgrades.

This game is not Star Control, as Divinity OS is not Ultima, despite the constant name dropping.

No character progression, you are not a ship, you are the captain of a ship, and that character has no skills, no levels, no stats, nothing... not even the ship as that, just simple equipment upgrades which is analog to any space sim game.

Tim Cain also said that the only thing he didnt like about Fallout 3 was the ending, so there's that.
