Or there could be a game about the Winter War, or the Japanese invasion of China in WW2. There are many theatres that have not been explored much in videogames. Probably because they have less cool tanks.

Relic is owned by THQ so they are probably not working with the same budget they used to.

Graphics look identical but with some new explosions and a sinking in ice effect.

Still butthurt they didn't add tactically meaningful weather effects in COH:OF like they promised. Tanks were supposed to get stuck in mud :rpgcodex:

Oh BTW the NDA for the closed OF beta (I got in during the first wave with a handful of other people) finally doesn't legally bind me anymore (it had something like a 4 or 5 year period, OF was released 5 years ago) so I can tell you of the most ridiculously overpowered thing ever present in COH.

Remember the British gliders for the Commando Company? The ones dropping troops or supplies anywhere on the map? Get this, they used to murder every soldier in their path as they landed. It was absolutely hilarious and broken as hell, they had to patch it out early in the closed beta and make soldiers get pushed away rather than gibbed. Was even better than artillery as it gave less warning and less time to react. Suddenly a wooden glider comes out of nowhere and mows down two or three squads, before a bunch of SAS commandos waltzes out to mop up.

Playing British Commando was quite a bit of fun. Causing my friend to retreat all his soldiers from a smoke decoy barrage and then later on the match he thought it was another fake and didn't retreat and most of his army got turned to mush

It looks worse than the 'Eastern Front' mod.Worrying.
Or maybe they simply stole the models.
But Relic is not supposed to be a first rate developer? Damn, they have a glorious history (bar Homeworld 2. And Spess Mehreen was fun, even if tasteless).

Someone has any data on how few resources they have to complete this project?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Fucking American WW2 movies.

I never care for the main characters because they are the enemy and the guys I'm rooting for always lose in the end.

They added realistic LOS? How is that retarded? Oh it's Syril, yeah I guess I just answered my own question.

Looks like they went back to the weather idea, although with a seasonal twist. Not bad. Dumbfuck "journalist" forgot you could also recover artillery pieces and some heavy weapons in the first COH. Hell, you could even recover tank wrecks as the Waffen-SS Panzer Elite.

realistic...... in a isometric game where you control small men

This is not a simulator but a rts, some things are bad for gameplay, some things brake the genre and not innovate it, just look at dragon age. I can assure you that everyone will hate this new Los system. If something is not broken don't fix it. They have changed a basic fundamental aspect of a RTS, do you think that other rtses didn't do it before because technical aspects didn't allow this ? No, they didn't do it before because it's retarded. There already is fog of war, creating additional layer of sighting system where you can't see behind buildings because the guy standing there can't see it (derp) but you can is on par retardism level with dragon age 2 fighting revamp system and calling it rpg. CoH 2 is the new Cod but instead of a fps you have top-down view, you can even leap over obstacles.

This new Los system will do the opposite of what they want, instead of adding additional tactics it will lessen them, because with normal LoS you can plan an attack from direction you want, with this you don't know where shit is and you will be charging blindly because you have no idea of what where is.
The combat in the end will be people running around everywhere and bumping into each other or camping in one place and killing the running guys - just like in cod.

Guess you can never understimate how new games can be fucked up, and another good title goes down the shitter. Go to hell relic.

So, why does it look exactly like the first game?

I didn't like the first one much. Building tanks in a garage on the corn field and making a zerg with jeeps in the beginning is fucking retarded. In games with aliens - ok, not ww2.

COH was an RTS with some RTT leanings, nowhere near Close Combat obviously but it aimed for tactical realism where it could. Having realistic LOS along with soldiers that can get over a fence without having to blow it up using a grenade, is another step closer towards that tactical realism. A realistic LOS means you'll just have to scout more carefully and use things like camouflage/recon planes more. And you can always shell the crap out of a suspicious position with a mortar (or heavier indirect fire weapon) instead of charging in blindly if you can't scout it. Or you know, actually avoid it, like actual commanders did when they saw a likely ambush spot. But I guess that kind of tactical depth is too much for the shitposter huh?

Apparently THQ is spamming every email used to have COH registered with a link to a new COH2 "multiplayer" trailer. The voice-overs seems nice (for everyone speaking in English with accents as usual that is), also katyushas.

Also there is a beta, on steam. Do you want to get you your porn deleted so you can stop the communist menace from the east? Or do you want to avoid the pleasures of an "alpha stress test", like major lag. Anyway the link is below:

My friend is playing the alpha right now, has mixed feelings about it so far. Steam chat log:

Me: so i hear you have the coh2 alpha
Him: yarp
Him: was just playin
Me: hows that
Him: Vcoh
Him: with new gubbins
Him: the coolest thing so far
Him: is the blizzard system
Me: hmm
Him: on snow maps
Him: your troops get cold
Him: so you have to build fires
Him: and blizzards roll through every now and then
Him: to make life colder
Him: and you cant light fires in blizzards
Me: lol
Me: what if you put your guys in an apc
Him: the ice + tank thing
Him: nearly killed a panther with that in multy
Him: I think their fine in an APC
Me: does it have nice sounds and effects?
Him: they seem allright
Him: affects seem ok
Him: I love/hate V coh gameplay though
Him: infantry feels slow
Him: but I think thats because I'm used to a sprint key
Me: indeed
Him: coolest thing by far is the snow deal
Him: changes the name of the game
Him: and the ruskies are p cool
Him: very spammy
Him: I dont think it'll take root the way that COH did
Him: its not bringing enough to the table yet to really impress me
Me: yea
Me: does it feel like the full range of features are already presented or does it feel complete
Me: as an alpha
Me: incomplete*
Him: incomplete
Him: it feels like they want to customize your commander abilities
Him: similar to COHO maybe
Me: thatd be a nicer touch
Him: yea
Him: the units themselves seem like their set
Him: and the tiers of progression
Him: although it feels like you BLAZE through your techs
Him: you can easily tech to max in the first 10 mins
Him: or so
Him: well research your tech to max
Me: thats a little rediculous
Him: yea
Me: vanilla coh was usually at least 30 min
Him: well it took awhile in vcoh
Him: also though
Him: you have much better control of your income
Him: points are generic
Him: and you plant things like ammo dumps
Him: or fuel depot's
Him: to generate income in that area
Him: so you plant a fuel depot
Him: on your first point
Him: and you can tech to max with just the research quickly
Him: it means you really can skip T2
Him: and go straight T3
Him: which I'v done
Him: I cranked out a Panther
Him: and my opponent had a Panzer IV
Him: also German V German play
Him: completely mixable teams
Me: not sure if i like that
Him: yeh
Me: maybe as a basic match feature
Me: but if its automatch too then meh
Him: its in auto too
Him: gives a little more game
Him: instead of just playing against russians
Him: I really want there to be more diverse factions
Him: like how coh isn ow
Him: I dunno mods have spoiled me with COH
Me: are the germans like a clone of the wehr in vcoh? or a mix of wehr and pe?
Him: kinda a mix
Him: you get 222's
Him: instead of 232's
Him: otherwise their a clone
Him: for the most part
Him: pio's
Him: mg
Him: mortar
Him: sniper
Him: and grenadiers
Him: instead of volks
Him: but you get panzergrenadiers
Him: as the next tier infantry
Me: i see
Him: wehr is really familiar feeling
Him: pak 40
Him: and its not cheap
Him: like 360 manpower
Him: compared to say the 240 for your grenadier squad
Him: rocket arty is in
Him: by way of maultier
Him: and its pretty effective
Me: loe the maultier
Me: im assuming the soviets get the katyusha
Me: love
Him: yeh
Me: guessing the ruskies play like the americans
Him: kinda yea

Both of us are seasoned CoH players with thousands of games under our belts, competitive, vanilla, modded, you name it. CoH is an addicting game but I can imagine there are a lot of fans like us that were looking for more features to add to the equation. Maybe they will surprise us as the game is developed further, however I have my doubts.

I don't like playing as Hero's though, the game is a bit biased. Also, I don't like games where you unrealistically create units on a small section.

Game is shit mainstream garbage

When I heard THQ was going down, I was worried about my precious Company of Heroes. With Sega buying Relic, does that mean they'll only release 10k copies?

Why isn't the pre-order bonus thing on Steam maxed out yet? I was under the impression that CoH was pretty popular. So sad that StarCraft 2 does so much better sales-wise.

Hm. Might be that this sale was a good thing actually. I could imagine that before this sale, CoH2 was being rushed in order to get some quick cash for THQ to stay afloat. Now that they have SEGA backing they might have anough money to work some extra on it...

"When were publishers ever interested in polishing" you might say, but the self interest in it is obvious. We are very close to HotS release so obviously it would pay to postpone the CoH2 release until at least a month or two after HotS. The meanwhile could be used for balancing and polishing.

Uncertainty, that's why. Once Sega announces a release date pre-orders should soar.

I think some people are a little hesitant to jump on the game because it seemed like it was going to be another THQ dlc fest from the preorder page alone. The whole alternate tank skins and blurb about the commissar's chest stuck out to me.
