So what if it is? Good on them for realizing they can cash in instead of bitching about the pirates that are enjoying it anyways.

And yeah, Squeenix hasn't released any decent sequels so far. I never even got to the twist in SO3, the plot and gameplay were already boring me to tears. I liked the setting and voice acting and even story a bit in FFXII, but the characters were bad and the combat is about as interesting as progress quest. Everything either: Dies to one or two melee attacks; or dies to a quickening chain. I started running into bosses I couldn't simply chain to death before they moved, but it was really any more interesting. Casting spells is a bad idea because then you can't use your vastly superior quickenings, so you just spam items while you bash it until it gets low enough to KO before it goes all berserk and kills you. The side quests just involve a LOT of walking, with nothing to actually think about or any challenge.

Meh, I can still hope though. Some of the stuff on the DS is pretty fun. I picked up TWEWY a while ago and it was pretty cool. They just need to put together a team that isn't out to make an EPIC SEQUEL like so many of the shit games floating around these days.

they wouldn't have gone through all the trouble making it.
What trouble? It's a port. They didn't create anything new. It's just another pointless cash in.

I don't see how it's pointless. There are new gamers made all the time. I was around for the SNES (heck, I was around for the Atari 2600!) but there are lots of kids and young adults who weren't. Hell, the PSone was released a whopping 13 years ago.

And I'm sure there are people who may have just got into gaming or into the genre recently who may have heard about the "classics" and never have played them. Or players who just didn't get certain systems. I've ping ponged back and forth between console and PC gaming since the early 80s so I missed out on many of the SNES games and then missed out on the late 90s PC games (didn't play Fallout until 2003) .

So getting FFIV, V, VI ports for the GBA and finalling getting to play Phantasy Star IV on yet another "pointless cash-in port" makes gamers like me happy.

Then there is the fact that these are portable games. If a game is good enough I like to replay it some years later. Being able to do so on a long train ride, in a hotel room, or at my desk on my work lunch hour is awesome.

I do agree that ports should include extras and improvements where possible and they probably should have graphically enhanced Chrono Trigger like they did FFIII/IV but being that I only played the emulated version about halfway and I don't really care about graphics (too much) it's no big deal.

Square/Enix is incapable of making enjoyable games. When they fused they started making awful stuff. At least that's my opinion.
Does that include Minstrel Song? I found it to be a pretty nice dungeon crawler, based on what I've played of it. The art style is weird at first, but at least it's not generic.

FFXII was great, don't understand the hate for it.
Ever seen a Matsuno game that didn't polarize opinions?

games that don't even exist on the seven seas of the internet
There's no such game. At least, King of Dragon Pass is definitely not one of them.

Want to add: I think the problem with Squenix is the problem with JRPGs (and PC RPGs) in general: no one tries anything new. While there are some slight tweaks to gameplay mechanics, every story is cliche and it's basically "been there, done that". FFXII's battle mechanics and story emphasis was refreshing but I admit they could have done without some characters, the license system was flawed, and the gameplay was repetetive. Still the size of the gameworld was the most impressive seen in a JRPG and unless you were into powergaming and grinding the combat was fairly challenging.

But it's interesting that the best RPG I've played in years was the one to least stray from the basics - DQ8. Nothing special or groundbreaking about it really but it was genuinely FUN. Something I can't say for most JRPGs I've played since the Lunar remake for the PS1.
