Cybernations - modern setting, 27k players, nation-building and war game. Game play itself is pretty basic - pay bills, build stuff, collect taxes. Active metagame based around alliance warfare.

It's pretty easy for most of the campaign, but you're constantly getting new plants and zombies so even that easy grind gives you a nice breadcrumb trail of rewards. Then the challenge modes are pretty fun, and can get fairly challenging.

It's a Popcap game so it's simple, but if you've enjoyed any of their other games it's a good time waster. Not free unless you don't remove it from an inventory, of course. Bought it for $10 on Steam and it was worth that.

Not a bad game. Used to play it actively a couple of years ago until I was eradicated under false accusations. Being considerably upset by how things turned out, I even made a critically acclaimed video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3qTtfuAAHU

The alliance I was in, Nordreich, was remarkable. I used to be the propaganda minister for a while. We were accused by the government of Norway, who believed the alliance was a Neo-Nazi organisation based in Germany, of misusing their anthem; were all over Norwegian newspapers, and made it into Washington Post.

That's just insane stuff. Mind you I believe the alliance I in was banned for a short time for allegedly running a script on the game, until someone pointed out that they were just winding an idiot up.

I've only just started playing (played Urban Dead for a while and chose that over the Paradox invasion of CN in 2006) and am in TOP.
