That's not an expansion feature. And again - this shit was in IE games from the start, EE just made it slightly more convenient.

I do think Siege is a more interesting expansion to BG1 than TOB is to BG2. Partly because it's still low enough level to not feel too insane in time v. ability usage. There is 1 dragon and 1 mindflayer as the high level enemy encounters, and the dungeons are pretty good. They do mostly just throw more monsters from the BG1 bestiary at you. Emphasis on more. Which is fine by me as it's still technically BG1, just more so.

ToB w/o ascension is pretty bad. I know pretty much everyone plays with Ascension nowadays so it may be hard to recall just how boring the supposed to be epic fights were. HLAs were not needed (except to give a sense of progression) and badly imbalanced the base game.
