I remember buying a gamepad because a bunch of retards all over gaming forums recommended it for the D-pad and said it was "just like the classic Sega Genesis D-pad!" in performance and build quality. I specifically wanted an Xbox/Sega Genesis type controller with the best, most comfortable and durable D-pad I could get after using the horrid Xbox 360 controller's D-pad for so long (ironically, the last revision of that controller had the BEST d-pad I ever used, the one with the chrome colors for the D-pad). But this recommended d-pad I purchased had a D-pad that started getting squishy then crunchy literally after an hour of use. It was one of those game controllers that had Street Fighter II characters on it, which should have been a tip off that only the most retarded gamers used it. It almost single-handedly caused me to switch over to DS4/DS5 controllers. Haven't looked back since.

Yes, they are bad. However, what if you want to play Nioh? Then you should use controller. The best controller is the 360 controller, because Microsoft is actually quite good at peripherals.

I found out about this interesting DIY open source controller recently called the Alpakka. It is focused on providing the gyroscope as the primary input, instead of doing flick stick or similar, and to do that it uses two of the most accurate gyro chips on the market with mouse-like firmware, when the alternatives (Switch Pro/Joycon, Dualsense) use a single chip that's about 20x noisier than what this uses with pretty bad firmware. There's really no reason at all why we couldn't have one of these accurate gyro chips in a modern controller, and have the right thumbstick be touch sensitive for easy ratcheting (ratcheting = the gyro turns on when you press a button or have your finger on a touch sensitive surface (the Alpakka has conductive plastic on the plate the face buttons are on), instead of being always on)
If this doesn't remove your doubt on what gyroscopes could provide, or doesn't make you believe in my statement of gyros having the potential of providing 70-95% of what a mouse can do, I don't know what would. The results are impressive.

Someone here (another thread) recommended this 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth controller I bought it a good few months ago and really enjoy it, nice weighty feel to it. I haven't had to use the dpad too much though so take that for what it's worth.

I use my 6-btn Megadrive for any 2d games. Also the first three resi's. Mode button's perfect for targeting.
