Any Elvira or Waxworks fans out there?

It's PC Gamer, we used to make fun of them like 20 years ago.

Also, the reviewer is retarded. "Plot is weird" because it's unconnected to the show? Now let's see, the show was about Elvira making sarcastic commentaries on really bad horror movies. The game is full of... elements that could've been lifted straight from every bad horror movie known to man (at least at the time; this was pre-Seven, Saw and all that crap), most of them (including the graphical gore) taken past the limit of absurdity. Yep, they just stuck the name on there without knowing what it was about.

Later on it's pretty obvious he has no sense of humour. At all. It's almost sad.

He writes about old games (mostly older Adventure games, but others too) every week Saturday, and yes he has some weird tastes, for instance he seems to really dislike the Blade Runner Adventure, but the pieces are interesting nonetheless and often are about games I'd never heard of: http://www.pcgamer.com/category/features/crap-shoot/
For instance I played Hopkins FBI because of the dude hating it so much: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/11/crap-shoot-hopkins-fbi/

He's also for instance written about
The Leather Goddesses of Phobos: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/11/21/crap-shoot-leather-goddesses-of-phobos/
The 7th Guest: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/03/10/saturday-crapshoot-the-7th-guest-11th-hour/
Quest for Glory 4: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/09/saturday-crapshoot-quest-for-glory-4-12/
Sanitarium: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/04/saturday-crapshoot-sanitarium/
Kingdom O' Magic: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/09/08/saturday-crapshoot-kingdom-omagic/
Biing!: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/03/saturday-crapshoot-biing/
The Star Trek games: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/12/saturday-crapshoot-star-trek-the-next-generation/
And whatever this is: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/10/saturday-crapshoot-the-blobjob/

And he "reviewed" the Polish series about The Witcher: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/21/saturday-crapshoot-wiedzmin-the-witcher/
And the gloriously prestigous movie Womb Raider: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/02/25/saturday-crapshoot-womb-raider/

I'm enjoying his columns for the sake that he is writing about this stuff at all in the first place instead of AAA crap xD

@ Crooked Bee: I am grateful for the esteem in which you seem to hold my past Let's Play threads. I want nothing more than to be able to live up to it with the new ones.

So you are, actually, Black Cat? Just without stuffies and with do's and did's?

It is my hope I am her without the over the top and obnoxious attitude as well. I just want to discuss obscure hardcore games as I did in the beginning, before the trolling and counter trolling did pile up to bloat out the sun.

You were never really obnoxious to be honest. It's not whiteknighting; I'd take the spoiled princess routine over the usual "jaded old-time fuck you gamer" we've in spades every day and your posts were a pleasure to read most of the time.

Nevertheless, I wish you best of luck on your needless quest for expiation and hope you continue to make top-notch LPs.

That article was pretty awful, but I digress...

Seriously, how many times can you write that in a single article?

I suppose I shall, I suppose I shall...

Speaking of emulators, I keep meaning to make a thread for them.

Elvira 1 had an atmosphere. Just five minutes are enough to tell it's a horror game. Music, creepy characters, gore, difficulty, all of this. The manual- walkthrough was funny. Elvira's boobs were nice. Sex and violence, you can't go wrong with this.

But, the difficulty... the combat was bad. Really bad and frustrating. I hate combat parts in every game Horrorsoft made.

The music was IMO far better in the PC DOS version.

I didin't like the sequel. Too much pixel hunting and unexpected deaths at some point. The navigation between locations was somehow more troubling. I know they wanted to explore various cliches by placing the action in movie studio, but somehow it didn't work for me. Maybe I'd change my mind if I ran it again.

I played Waxworks recently, using a WinUAE exec (compilation of all three titles) I found somewhere. A mediocre game, but I liked it. The game is shorter, puzzles are easy. The themes had varied quality. London and Cemetery were lame, Mine and Pyramid- quite interesting.

I know there's Personal Nightmare, but I couldn't force myself to play. That kind of graphics and interface creeps me out more than any macabre.

And lol, pc gaymer. When you think they can't go lower...
