[ Game -> Review ]

To continue the Galactic Civilizations 2 love fest that started last month, 3D Gamers has their own review of Stardock's popular 4X space strategy game. They were impressed enough with the experience to give the game a 93%. The AI was one of the high points.

With Galactic Civilization II being only a single-player game, the
pressure on AI development is at its highest to offer the best
challenge possible and make it enjoyable. Here the game does not
disappoint. The AI doesn’t cheat in Galactic Civilization II, it’s just
incredibly efficient at what it does especially at the higher
difficulty levels. The AI will observe and adapt to your play-style
through scouts and espionage. At higher difficulty levels, if you’re at
peace with the AI and are having a nice friendship through trading, if
the AI sees that you’re building up massive fleets, it may take
preemptive strike against you. Because of the AI’s efficiency, it may
pull several surprises on you like if you’re beating down on your
opponent and about to take over, the AI may surrender to a different
civilization that is better aligned with them to prevent you from
taking over their lands.
