  1. Jamestown

Is it any good? Does co-op mode adjust its difficulty depending on the number of players? I'm considering buying it.
  2. The most replayable game (PC or emulator)

Civilization/ SMAC, Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup, Impressions City Building Games, Dominions 3, Dwarf Fortress For Multiplayer: Starcraft, Dominion the Card Game, Solium Infernum
  3. Dota/Moba, Card Games, and Rpgs are subtypes of Strategy

So, do any of you play the deck building game Dominion (not to be confused with Dominions the turn based god/strategy game)? http://dominion.isotropic.org/
  4. Smallworld Underground!

My friends and I love playing Dominion, although technically it's a card game. The spontaneous deck-building aspect is awesome, though. Been meaning to get some of the expansions. Aargh!Tect is the perfect drinking game given it relies on motor skills and hitting people in the head.
  5. Why no RTS games that actually use exploration in MP?

Exploration is something that RTS games can have, but it requires a good understanding of game design to make the player feel that he won by outsmarting his opponent, not because it took him more time to find a resource than the other player. I think rogue-likes can be a great inspiration for...
  6. Overgrowth, the vaporware bunny homicide simulator - no longer vaporware, too bad it sucks!

Dominions 3, Knights of the Chalice, Terraria and Solium Infernum are good, finished games. Dungeon Crawl isn't "finished" but it sure as hell plays well. Not buying or playing them by virtue of being "unpolished" only serves to keep AAA games shitty, just because companies will keep producing...
  7. Why the decline will stop

An image of a Soviet hippy comes to mind. Quite a disturbing image, actually. Partly true, but there was a period of decline in war gaming after the war game explosion brought about by Panzer General. Hundreds of bad war games tried to follow Panzer General's success. Paradox Games eventually...
  8. Why the decline will stop

I think Skyway has a good point in voting with your dollars (or whatever currency you use). If you bitch about the decline and still buy games, ideally that would make you a hypocrite and generally a dumbass. But the problem in the gaming industry, which is a problem that occurs in many other...
  9. Fuh-THREE-arrr

The same reason why this is called X-COM
  10. Scaling

Well, whatever the type of RPG, level scaling isn't necessary. If the RPG is driven by a complex story, then the accomplishment of the main goal (progressing the story) is enough motivation to get to the next step of the story. In this case, since the story basically provides a timeframe for...
  11. TB strategy games W/O luck element?

Advance Wars may have percentile chances, but given how large the factor of counters are in that game, it plays almost as if there is no chance involved. The later missions often become puzzle like because of this though.
  12. Whats happening to the RTS genre?

I know Brood War is still a better game, but SC2 has been fun and engrossing so far for me. Scouting is truly important now, given that the macro game is a lot stronger compared to micromanagement. Seeing the base of your enemy should not only give you an idea of what your opponent is making...
  13. cRPG quotes

Torr: Me Torr. (I'm Torr, can I help you with anything?) PC Character: You Torr. (Hello, Torr. I do have a few questions for you.) Torr: Bugmen take moo-moos at night. Torr scared! Hep Torr? (Well, as I said, they are nocturnal in their feeding habits. I sure could use some assistance in...
  14. Not ready for numbers? The dumbing down of RPG mechanics.

Well, given that the OP played a sports action game (not exactly sports management games, which is a genre that is niche) with more statistic-related RPG mechanics than modern RPGs, maybe all we have to do is wait it out. Sports games: Action game => Stats with action => heavy use of...
  15. D&D 4e: Vampires will be a class.

Just use Savage Worlds. If you have any semblance of an imagination, you should be able to roleplay any type of world you want.
