WTF are you talking about??! There's absolutely no difference between SRPG and TRPG. What the hell is a SRPG anyway?

I suppose King's Bounty, without a strategic layer, would be a TRPG and Homam/Disciples/AoW, with a strategic layer would be SRPGs. Not that it's important.

Its to get a general idea on what people think, try not to over complicate it. After all it is a small survey, no reason for people to go up in arms over it.
Welcome to the Codex, where people express their affection by random bouts of caustic hostility.

Divide by three everything you read and you'll be fine.

I don't like your survey. For the ESRB question, you don't supply a don't care response, and for length, you don't supply a "long enough to feel like a complete experience but not so long that it feels repetitive or boring" response.

Your complaint is that they didn't devote answer spots to your preferred non-answers?

It's not simply a matter of scale. Tactics largely concerns the decisions you make in a fight, while strategy largely concerns the decisions you make when preparing for a fight. Depending on how the game is abstracted it may not be a useful distinction.

I could not agree more. The often heard distinction that strategy equals grand scale, tactics equals small scale, is (in my opinion) wrong and often misleading. In my opinion strategy is how you prepare for a problem, tactics is how you react to specific situations.

This is what wikipedia has to say: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactic_(method)

The terms tactic and strategy are often confused: tactics are the actual means used to gain an objective, while strategy is the overall campaign plan, which may involve complex operational patterns, activity, and decision-making that lead to tactical execution.

If, for example, the overall goal is to win a war against another country, one strategy might be to undermine the other nation's ability to wage war by preemptively annihilating their military forces. The tactics involved might describe specific actions taken in specific locations, like surprise attacks on military facilities, missile attacks on offensive weapon stockpiles, and the specific techniques involved in accomplishing such objectives.

In chess, a tactic refers to a sequence of moves that limits the opponent's options and may result in tangible gain. Tactics are usually contrasted with strategy, in which advantages take longer to be realized, and the opponent is less constrained in responding.

In everyday life people are often tacticians (i.e. react to situations when they arise) while others are strategists (plan in advance).

Which is to say a good "strategy" game (e.g. Jagged Alliance) is always both tactical and strategical .

Glad we got over the strategic and tactical part over with.

Now... whats an RPG? and by that i mean what kind of core RPG elements are you planning to incorporate into your game?

Character Progression, Over arching plots, sensible companions, player plot choice etc etc.

Well, i agree with most people that you arent going to get any good feedback unless you give us something more concrete, but SRPGs are few and far between, a lot of codexers would welcome a new entry in the genre.

Good luck.

Thanks a bunch!

We are getting some good answers actually. While the project is still pretty much in pre planning and all the survey is helping us form some goals and all.
