"It is true, Bertie," he wrote, "and many well wishes to the folks at Obsidian. On the future, I'm off to pursue new projects, but I can't say anything more at this time beyond life is short, and the ideas keep growing."

I don't know if it had as much to do with his characters on PE as with the Obsidian Kickstarter that never happened and his Creative Lead on a publisher-funded RPG. We will find out eventually I guess.

Most importantly -now that he's no longer an Obsidian employee, does this mean he has been released from his Arcanum playthrough responsibilities?

RIP Obsidian, hopefully MCA beelines to some project that is both not risk adverse, and storyfag centric.

I wonder why the fuck he left.

Did he leave because he had enough? Was he ousted by the other owners? Are the rats leaving the sinking ship?

Let see, first they let go, non hire again Ziets ans Saunders, they shitcan Mitsoda's work and he leaves, now Avellone goes on his own.
Seems that talent is the real hindrance to success in the game industry.

I thought they brought back Ziets for PoE?

Guys, remember he once said he wanted to make a proper Star Wars game with David Gaider.
Imagine MCA joining Bioware.
Then again that was a friendly conversation between two nerds, but if he doesn't join inxile his talent will be completely wasted.

I'm almost glad to be honest, I feel he was severely underused at Obsidian for some time now and I'm really curious what he'll work on next (and where obviously). I don't think a wildly creative guy like him is a good fit for the current Obsidian, he doesn't belong there anymore.

C'mon, he must have had a better offer, a chance to work in something he really wants to work in.
This can only be good news.

I am afraid that if MCA joins BioWare or Bethesda, somebody on this forum might commit suicide over it. No joke.
